-Across the Universe~ The Beatles
There are a lot of good covers of that song, my personal favorite being Fiona Apple's. Great voice on that girl. I think the Beatles and Lennon are some of the only artists for whom I like the covers as well as the originals (whereas more often, I like a song but hate the person/people who made it). Bowie's got one of the more....interesting, versions I've heard.

I just heard Alice Cooper and the Bee Gees (together~) covering "Because", and that was...frightening.

I've got A Perfect Circle covering "Imagine." It's actually quite good.

I'm a Beatles Zealot. There are all of two covers, total, I can think of from Beatles songs that don't make me angry in a cringey sort of way. One is the "Little Help From my Friends" cover HJoe Cocker did (and I KNOW I got the name wrong there), and the other is the "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" cover the Traveling Wilburys along with Prince did at last year's Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductions.

Ah. None of my covers are for you then. Frankly, while I like the Beatles and John, their voices in some songs just make me cringe. I like the songs and the music, but the vocals just don't do anything for me. Besides that, I like the groups/people that do the covers anyway. Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainright, Perfect Circle, all artists that I like anyway. I think the only group I can't take covers for at all is Nine Inch Nails. Never ever heard of cover of their songs that I've liked.

Well, the Richard Cheese version of Closer is fun...

As for Beetles covers, I always liked Boyz II Men's cover of yesterday. And the afforementioned Fiona Apple. Love when she sings, hate when she speaks.

Which is why she doesn't release spoken word albums.

If you're looking for a good Beatles cover Wally, I suggest Rufus Wainright's cover of Across the Universe which is really good. I also I second the notion that Fiona Apple should never record a spoken word album lest she mention that if cross her she'll get her boyfriend to pull a quarter of our ears.

Right now really digging the Flying Lutenbachers album Infection and Decline and getting back into mid90s Stereolab. Dots and Loops is such a great album.

Let's see if I can actually do this, I have a little bit of a music problem. I buy about 100$ worth of music every other week or so.

Top Ten Albums in no exact order:

  1. The Roots- Do You Want More
  2. The Smiths- Hatful of Hollow
  3. The Clash- London Calling
  4. Cursive- The Ugly Organ
  5. Digable Planets- Reachin' a New Refutation of Time and Space
  6. Black Eyed Peas- Behind the Front
  7. Weezer- The Blue Album
  8. Black Star- The Black Star Album
  9. N*E*R*D- Fly or Die
  10. Maxwell- Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite

Favorite songs:

  1. Letters to Cleo's cover of I Want You to Want Me
  2. Cursive's Art is Hard
  3. The Root's Silent Treatment
  4. The Smith's This Handsome Man
  5. The Smith's Frankly Mr. Shankly
  6. The Clash's Spanish Bombs
  7. The Root's Dynamite
  8. Digable Planet's Cool Like Dat (Rebirth of Slick)
  9. The Brand New Heavies Featuring Mastah Ace Wake me When I'm Dead
  10. Jawbreaker's Bad Scene Everyone's Fault

Also it's not on my list because it's pretty new to me still but John Legend's Get Lifted is a very good album.
