Meanwhile, Tezley begun to notice a sillhouette on the horizon, that of a girl with a pokémon in her arms. He could not make it out that clearly, but he assumed that it was Elizabeth. Despite it being almost certainly the girl he met just a short while ago, he did not want to make a fool of himself, and just waited for the girl to approach. As she did so, it was clearer that in fact it was definitely Elizabeth, since now he could see her unmistakeably cute face and little Snubbull in her arms. “That’s her, Cyndaquil...” He said excitedly, although upon seeing her expression, he winced. It seemed clear that he had somehow upset her by leaving so abruptly, and he had to admit that it was rude of him. Still, they had only just met, so it found it strange that she would feel that way. As she was about to pass him and enter the long grass, Tezley decided to call out to her and her pokémon.
“Liz, Grant, hey wait up!” He hollered, approaching them with Cyndaquil in toe. He caught up to her before they could reach the taller grass, where they would start to encounter wild pokémon. “Is everything all right? Only, I felt bad about leaving so suddenly, and waited so I could apologise.” Tezley humbly stated. Hopefully that would clear the air, and give him the opportunity to ask whether they should travel together. He was not sure of how experienced she was with travelling, but he knew that this was his first time. Besides, even if they were both just starting out, they could help one another if they got into trouble along the way. Tezley smiled.

To Lizzy's despair, Tezley called after her as she passed, though she had to admit she was rather happy, as well . . . hopeful that he would apologize. And that's just what he did! She'd always heard that boys could be rather stubborn, and she was glad this wasn't so much the case with him. "Y-yeah. Everything's alright . . . and it's cool . . . although I have to admit I did feel like you were trying to cut me off. I mean . . . I was going to . . . ask if you wanted to travel together?" she started, then going on the defensive, in case he didn't really want to. "I mean! You don't have to, you know. 'Cause I know it'd maybe be rude to decline. It's just I was going to ask you back in New Bark and then the time passed and I heard that trainers often traveled in groups for various reasons a-and--" she said, cutting herself off as she began to blush furiously, holding her Snubbull closer to her face. "I'm going to shut up, now." she then said to Tezley shyly as she spoke into the back of her Snubbull's head. The things Elizabeth knew of the world were generally from books, as her overbearing parents often wouldn't let her venture out. Though, on her stays in Sunyshore at the retreat with her nanny, Rosie, they'd actually often venture out to go exploring, though they never went too far. Rosie was an excellent Pokemon trainer, but Lizzy never had a Pokemon of her own until now. She was rather excited at the prospect of having a traveling companion and hoped that her incessant babbling hadn't dissuaded him . . .

Tezley was glad to hear that his apology was accepted by the girl, and was very surprised to hear her talk about how she was going to ask if they would travel together. However, before he could utter a single word, she started to back peddle with her words, as though she was certain he would decline. He listened, with one brow high while the other furrowed, and looked at her with half a grin. Thankfully, she managed to stop herself before she could finish, stating she was going to shut up in that instant. Tezley’s grin and expression faded, replaced with a look of amusement. He laughed, mainly at Lizzy’s outburst, but also because he was going to ask her the same question and probably try to backpeddle in a similar fashion. The laughter did not last long, it was only to get the amusement out of his system, and he looked back at Lizzy with a smile. “That sounds like a great idea!” Tezley remarked enthusiastically. He then stared down the route, looking at the tall grass, thinking of what pokémon they would encounter together. The feeling from before returned, the urge to run through and take on whatever came his way. He pounded his fist into his palm with a massive grin spanning from cheek to cheek. “I don’t know what we’re going to see, but I bet ya that we’re going to have a lot of fun!” He said, a fiery glint in his eye.

The pair entered the grassy patch in front of them, both looking very confident that they could take on anything. They both seemed to know that they had to, otherwise they were sure to fall at the first hurdle. Tezley resisted his urge to run, instead remaining vigilant of his surroundings for a potential catch or battle. His eyes and ears were wide open to the surroundings now, looking for the slightest clue of something nearby. Eventually, his eyes met the sky above, remembering how nice a day it was. The clouds were drifting slowly by, and the Sun glowed brightly, Tezley could not help but have high spirits on a day like this. “Never thought we’d spend the first day of our journey on a nice sunny day.” Tezley said after a few minutes of walking along. Cyndaquil agreed and nodded with a cute squeak, but he was also talking with Lizzy and her Snubbull too. Living in Snowpoint City for so long, he always had a vision of setting out with a Turtwig or Chimchar, roaming around the snowy routes outside of his hometown.

"Hm? Really? This is always how I imagined the weather being. So far, this is somewhat close to being a cut and paste replica of how I imagined my first day of adventures going. Though, it got off to a rocky start . . . and I imagined getting a somewhat different Pokemon . . . and starting somewhere like Kanto . . . BUT! This is all different . . . in a good way." she said looking at her surroundings, and Pokemon and traveling companions. "Good indeed." she said with a smile as her feet then continued to rustle through the grass. Though she soon heard a Pokemon's squeak. "Sen-sentret!" it could be heard. Quite startled by this, she jumped back, knowing that the Electabuzz back home were rather strong, and didn't like to be disturbed. The only time you could sneak passed them was at nighttime. She wondered if the same was true of these creatures. Soon, it popped up right in front of them, standing on it's tail, and Lizzy decided to scan the creature. "Sentret. The Scout Pokemon. Sentret stands on its tail so it can see a long way. If it spots an enemy, it cries loudly to warn its kind." said the Pokedex. And a look of understanding stretched across Lizzy's face. "You don't think that it'll--" and before the could finish her sentence, the Sentret let out a loud squeal and slammed it's tail on the ground a few times, using it's ability Run Away to get far away from the group. "Ha. I totally saw that one coming." Lizzy said as she took another step forward. Though . . . that was her first wild Pokemon encounter . . . well . . . her first one when she actually had a Pokemon companion. "You know, Grant, we're going to have to battle our way through some wild Pokemon sometimes." she spoke to her Snubbull. "Snub-Snubbull." it the responded happily.

Tezley smiled as Lizzy spoke to him, it was a nice sound seeing as though he thought that only himself and Cyndaquil would be travelling together. Suddenly, the two of them heard a noise, which startled Lizzy. “Wow, wonder what that was…” Tezley asked, although his question would soon be answered for him. They spotted a pokémon shortly after it made a noise and almost instinctively flipped their pokédexes at it. As they relayed the information back to the trainers, Lizzy made a remark that he found himself burst into a quick chuckle. The Sentret they had encountered did exactly what the pokédex said it would, squealing loudly to alert others of its kind before turning tail, running to safety with quite some haste. After that, he listened to Lizzy tell Grant about how they would have to battle wild pokémon from time to time to continue on their journey.
“That’s for sure! Not only that, but it helps up grow that little bit stronger, because you never know who or what is gonna fight you next.” Tezley added, emphasising the need to make every encounter count. He gestured a thumb’s up to them both, grinning warmly. Just then, Cyndaquil squeaked softly, tugging at his leg. Confused, he noticed that Cyndaquil was looking in a particular direction, that of where the Sentret ran off. Both trainers looked up from the fiery rodent, only to see the same Sentret staring back at them… with reinforcements. Tezley’s eyes widened, although the grin on his face stayed. “And it looks like we’ll have to battle our way through much sooner than we thought.” Tezley smirked, pounding his fists together in excitement.
There were four Sentret in total, and despite the odds being against their favour, Tezley could not pass up the opportunity for a challenge so early on in their journey. Cyndaquil took a stance in front of his trainer, poised to fight with its back flame burning profusely. “That’s it little guy, you got the right idea! Show ‘em we mean business.” Tezley fiercely hollered, throwing an uppercut into the air just under his chin. Anxiety, determination and excitement flooded in his body, practially leaking out from his very pores. It was their first ever battle, and with Lizzy watching him too, this was his chance to prove he could be what every trainer set out to be; the very best. Pokémon: Cyndaquil, Level 5: 5/5 HP. Preparing to battle.

"Whoa! Tezley! Are you and Cyndaquil gonna try and tackle all of those Sentret by yourselves? You know Snubbull and I could help out, too . . . probably." it was at that point that from another angle, a few more Sentret scurried their way on to the scene. "Welp . . . it looks like we've got our hands full as well." said Lizzy as she set her Snubbull down on the ground. "Now if I remember this correctly, most Pokemon know the move Tackle, even from the beginning. So, let's try that, Grant." said Lizzy as she singled out one of the Sentret by pointing at it. Grant growled angrily at the Sentret, mad that it'd dare threaten it's trainer. Rushing forward, it rammed into the small rodent and sent it backwards, doing the same with the few others, though, since Grant was very new at this battling deal . . . and as was Lizzy . . . he suffered a deal of damage. "Aw. Grant. You did great, though." she said, turning around after the battling had ended. "How you do over here?" she then asked Tezley, hoping he had done as well as she. "Oh! And do you know how to check the moves your Pokemon can perform? 'Cause I don't know that even Grant here knows that, really." Lizzy then followed with a chuckle.

With a staredown, Tezley thought back to the moves that he knew Cyndaquil had. He knew that Cyndaquil had Leer, from all the times he would use it if a stranger entered or neared the house. He also knew Tackle, a funny memory of Tezley’s uncle flipping over top of a sofa sprung to mind. Tezley grinned at the Sentret before issuing his first command. “Have them running scared Cyndaquil! Use Leer!” He announced, Cyndaquil reacting without a moment’s delay. As he leered, he seemed to instill fear into them all. Tezley was surprised, he never knew that the attack would work on multiple foes before, or that his own cute little fire-type could look that frightening. Just then, Snubbull had slammed into one or two of the Sentret Lizzy was facing with impressive might.
Just after that, Lizzy called over to him. “How you do over there?” she asked. Tezley turned and grinned, although a little peeved that Cyndaquil was too busy dodging a Sentret to attack. He did not mind too much though, taking on four Sentret needed teamwork anyway. He heard Lizzy asked another question about the moves that their pokémon know, and although Tezley did not know exactly himself, he flicked out his pokédex. “Well usually pokémon start with an offensive and defensive move... although...” Tezley said, pausing for a moment to check through the encyclopedia for move options. He looked up, just in time to see a Sentret tackle his pokémon, while a another tried a follow-up.
“Darn it. Quick Cyndaquil, jump up and Leer!” Tezley requested in a near-instinctive burst of thinking. Cyndaquil leaped high away from the pursuing Sentret, looking down with yet another frightful stare upon both. “Now’s the chance, Liz, get Grant in there to bulldoze them both!” He hollered, seeing the opening for attack. This was exhilarating to say the least. Pokémon: Cyndaquil, Level 5: 4/5 HP.

It wasn't long before Lizzy realized that Tezley wasn't quite through with his battle. It had actually taken her a while to finish her battle and it was far from perfect, so she just assumed that Tezley had done better. And he did seem to be doing better . . . though the battle was taking a bit longer, it was being executed far better than Lizzy's. She listened intently as Tezley began trying to multitask. She knelt down as well, as she figured if she was going to be training on the rest of this route that Grant would need a bit of health to do so. She felt incredibly bad that she couldn't give her Pokemon better commands, but she'd always heard that you needed to be strong, or else your Pokemon will pick up on it. So she whipped out two of her Potions and used them on Grant. And it was at that moment that the battling that Tezley had mentioned came into play. "Uh, yeah! Alright! Grant, use Tackle." she said, as he ran forth and rammed into one of the wild Sentret, using Tackle. Though, it wasn't long before he turned to the other and clamped onto it's tail using Bite. "Whoa! It's another of your moves." Lizzy said, whipping out her own Pokedex. "Bite. A dark-type move. Inflicts damage and has a reasonable chance of making the opponent flinch." spoke the Pokedex, and looking at the Sentret's face, it was flinching, alright. Though, it soon snapped out of it and started to flail around, trying to get the Snubbull off of it's tail. Lizzy couldn't help but crack a smile at this. It was cute. This was exciting. With Tezley's instruction, it seemed she was doing alright. She had to wonder what his next battle-move would be. Perhaps he could instruct her in the ways of battling. She'd need to be able to battle well if she was going to challenge the Violet City gym.

Tezley hurried his pokédex back into his pocket, and kept his attention on the battle. Cyndaquil had paired up nicely with Snubbull, who looked to have taken out the Sentret that surrounded it, plus two of the four that Cyndaquil had engaged. By this time, Cyndaquil had dropped to the ground, rushing in to Tackle one of the Sentret that remained. However, while one reeled, the other blindsighted Cyndaquil, sending the little fire rodent skidding along the grass sideways. “You want power, huh? Fine...” Tezley said in an aggravated tone. Cyndaquil was also pretty annoyed at this point to, the flame on it’s back burning fiercer than ever. “Tackle now, finish off the weakened one!” Tezley instructed, with Cyndaquil dealing a massive hit seconds after the command. Now all that remained was the last Sentret, and without warning, Cyndaquil billowed a cloud of smoke around it.
The young trainer pulled his pokédex out again, scanning the move. “Smokescreen, a move that involves exhaling smoke from the body. It surrounds the foe to reduce their accuracy, but also serves as excellent cover for retreat.” It said. Tezley laughed, “Well there’s not going to be any retreating here! Now’s the chance to bombard it with Tackle, Go Cyndaquil!” he responded confidently. Cyndaquil followed up with two Tackles, one to force it out of the smoke, and the other to soundly defeat it. After the battle, Tezley threw a triumphantly zealous fist into the air, Cyndaquil squeaking and squealing in delight.
“Well, little guy... you did good, and you learned a cool new move!” Tezley congratulated, beckoning his pokémon into a well-deserved embrace with a potion ready to tend to his wounds. As they shared a proud moment, Tezley looked over to Lizzy whilst raising a thumb. “Thanks for your help back there. If it weren’t for you I think I would have been in serious trouble.” He said humbly, knowing that he got a little reckless taking on so many at once. Pokémon: - Cyndaquil lost 2 HP! "Well, I just appreciate your guidance out there. I mean, I don't know if you saw what was going on back here, but it was a mess." said Lizzy as she lifted her hand and began to rub the back of her neck shyly. "I'm glad I could help out, as well." Lizzy then replied honestly. "That was sort of fun, though, no?" Lizzy then asked to all of those traveling, and her Snubbull chimed in with a "Snu-Snubbull~!" as if agreeing to her statement/question. And with that they were back on track headed towards Cherrygrove City.
Picking her Snubbull back up into her arms, she checked him for damage, though with the two potions she'd used, he seemed to be in pretty alright condition. Perhaps she hadn't needed to use two? But, you never know when you're going to encounter more Pokemon.

~|~|~|~|~ “Yeah! It was fantastic! The thrill of the moment... watching our pokémon in action... just an amazing rush, ya know!?” Tezley went on excitedly. It was Tezley and Cyndaquil’s first ever battle, and it was everything that Tezley thought it would be. The young lad could only assume it was Lizzy and Grant’s first one too, based on what she told him. Tezley was shocked that he did not realise that her and Snubbull were in a spot of bother, too focussed on his own battle until he called Lizzy in to help him. He felt rather guilty, firstly for not noticing that she needed his help, but also because he asked for her aid after Grant had done so much on his own. “I-I’m sorry, I really didn’t know that, Lizzy...” Tezley said hesistantly, he was at a loss for words. “If you and Grant were in trouble, you could have said something to me, but still... we’re partners in this journey, I should have been paying attention to you too.” Tezley said, biting down on his lower lip to the point of almost bruising it. "Yeah, but Grant and I have a long way to go if we want to be able to take on gym leaders!" Lizzy bellowed with passion. Then turning to Tezley intently as he began to explain his unawareness of what was happening with Lizzy. "Oh! No no no! You're absolutely right. We are on a journey and Grant and I were all too glad to be able to lend you guys a hand. We've gotta have each other's backs, you know? Plus, the way things were going on our side, that bit of coordinated battling sure was a nice change of pace." she said with a laugh, then noting the expression on his face and walked over to him, throwing her arms around him, though she couldn't do it as effeciently as Rosie had done to her, it had always made her feel better. It would probably help if she were the taller one in the situation, though, but she didn't care. "Don't be upset . . . really." Lizzy said, looking up to Tezley with a smile. She hoped that this comforted him as much as it did her when she was down. "Wait . . . maybe he thinks I'm weird-- We just met, and I'm this close to him-- What if-- Oh-- And if--" . . . several thoughts began racing through Lizzy's mind at once as she quickly broke away from the male, her face bright red. "U-u--um, yeah! W-we should probably head o-on, right?" she said, really hoping she hadn't just made a total fool of herself in front of her newly aligned traveling companion.

~|~|~|~|~ Tezley could agree with what Lizzy was saying, and felt somewhat glad that she was happy to work with him as a partner in combat, as well as in travelling. He stopped biting his lip finally, accepting that maybe he should not have been so hard on himself just now. He still felt the guiltiness of not being able to help her when she was in trouble, but it was dampened by how she seemed so understanding. Besides, he knew that he would not make such a mistake twice, and that made him feel even more at ease. Just then, Lizzy threw her arms aroun d him in a warm and comforting embrace. He looked at her as she looked to him, seeing her cute smile as she told him not to be upset. “I’m fine now... really.” Tezley said, returning her beaming smile with his own. However, he soon realised what was happening, and his mind thought in overdrive. “Wait, this is a little wierd, we’ve only just met– And she’s being like this – But I’m also –“... Tezley felt Lizzy break away, since she was probably having similar thoughts. Tezley contained his embarrassment quite well, although he still looked a little flustered. “T-That sounds like a great idea to me! Let’s go already, we got a region to explore!” Tezley replied, marching forward and leading the way along the route. He only did this because he wanted to break out in a beetroot complexion around his cheeks without Lizzy noticing. Cyndaquil, looking perplexed at the situation, leapt onto Telzley’s shoulder and gave an intrigued squeak. “Oh don’t you start, Cyndaquil…” Tezley whispered forcefully, still trying to hide his blushing cheeks. Cyndaquil chuckled to himself in amusement.
