In case anyone is interested in some good fantasy anime, here's some recommendations.

Slayers - Lina Inverse is a heroic sorceress on a journey across the land to do good deeds. At least, she is in her mind. She robs from the bad and gives to herself. One day, though, she raids the wrong treasure trove and finds herself leading the bad-guy parade. Luckily (or is it unluckily?) for her, she is joined by Gourry Gabriev, a swordsman with a very extraordinary sword and a few lightbulbs out upstairs, Zelgadis Greywords, a chimera cursed with stone skin and a hideous appearance, and Amelia Wil Tesla Seiruun, a justice-loving princess with thing for dramatic speeches and high places. Can they prevent the resurrection of Shabranigdo the Ruby-Eyed Dark Lord and the awakening of the Demon-Beast Zannaffar? Will Lina and Gourry ever get enough to eat? And will they ever let them turn this show serious without a fight?

Record of Lodoss War - Based upon an early D&D campaign. Parn dreams of following in his father's footsteps and becoming a great knight. Spurred on by the legends of great kings and heroes, Parn will find his way in the world. Joined by Etoh the wet-behind-the-ears priest, Slayn the wizened wizard, Ghim the crusading Dwarf, Woodchuck the wise-cracking thief, and Deedlit the mysterious Elf. Together, they will stand against the evil forces of Emperor Beld and the armies of Marmo, including Parn's arch nemesis Ashram, the evil and ambitious necromancer Wagnard, and the balance-seeking Karla the Grey Witch. Songs of heroes! Magical swords! Dragons, dark elves, and a berserker! Can Parn and his companions save Lodoss?

Louie the Rune Soldier - Melissa, a priestess of the war goddess Mylee, has dreamed for years of finding the one true champion who she should follow, serve, and learn from. Too bad her goddess has saddled her with Louie. Dim, volatile, and completely inept as a wizard, Melissa and her adventuring companions, Genie the fighter and Merrill the thief, must now put up with Louie's antics as they make their way in the world. Adventuring is a hard life and Louie has made it all the harder. But could it be that even the half-baked Louie has something to teach a priestess about being a hero? Melissa thinks not and the whole thing is "completely against her will."

I highly suggest all three of these for the fantasy lover. The second two are actually written by the same person, though they have very different styles to them. They both smack of a D&D game, but Lodoss is a lot more serious and includes a lot of high drama. Slayers and Louie the Rune Soldier are both primarily comedies, but still have something to say in the end if you pay attention to the serious bits.

I adore Steve Blum. WHAT a voice!! I've often thought he could do the voice of Zechs in Gundam too, and that would make me VERY happy... smile

I apologise Jasta, I still keep meaning to read your work. There's a lot going on at the moment, including me being fairly low down with not being able to find a suitable job, doing the voluntary work and lots of other stuff happening. I am looking at distance learning writing courses at the moment as well. It's all rather...."grraaaahhh!!!" at this present time...so me sorry. sad

Mmm.....Vincent Valentine and Lord Darcia. Steve Blum's voice just fits them so WELL! However, if you look at a picture of Steve Blum, you wouldn't think it's him with that voice. Honestly, his face doesn't fit the voice at all.

Yeah, Brian Drummond just has one of those voices...

I like most of the Ocean Group voice actors, especially Brad Swaile and Scott McNeill (possibly because I have a tendency to like their characters). I actually got to see McNeill do a prank call during a voice actor panel at a convention once. He's a scream.

To be honest, I think Brian's voice is best suited to him. Steve's I think would probably be too deep for Zechs. Steve Blum fits with Vincent and Darcia perfectly though.

I just started watching Shugo Chara. It's very formulated ~ lot of the same. *but* very cute - great for kids. Excellent message.
