^^ I usually use Brassica when I am in the produce section. Cabbage, Brussels sprouts, Kale, Collard Greens, Kohlrabi, Cauliflower, and Broccoli are all from the same species of Brassica. (sp.oleracea) but they all have different varieties! That's generally why people who don't like one, don't like the others or vice versa. ^^ With me, I can say that I just like broccoli...with lots of cheese!

The poinsettia is part of the Euphorbiaceae family (with manioc and the castor bean) and most plants of this family have a milky latex with a varying degree of toxicity. It is debated just how toxic the poinsettia itself is. Wikipedia (which may not always be trustworthy) claims that people sensative to latex are most likely to have a reaction to the plant. Manioc/cassava contains a cyanide compound as well, so the plant must be cooked before eating.

So feel free to throw those scientific names around! wink Tum is right about the cyanide. In Africa, manioc is eaten there like potatoes are in the U.S. The women get into groups and have a long process by which the cyanide is removed from the manioc tuber. Usually it involves peeling it, cutting it up into little pieces, pressing the juices out for days, cooking it over a fire, and drying it out for days before it is ready to be eaten. By this point it resembles more of a powder. Add water and stir and you've got a wonderfully high starch dish! (Manioc is pretty much pure starch) I have eaten before in the form of a potato chip and I can tell you that it's pretty tasteless.

I like Christmas trees. They make the house smell a little like them, and you get to decorate them with your family.
We have a living room that is 20 feet tall, and 19 foot trees are hard to decorate!!
Last year, for some reason, we got a REALLY small tree. We put to many lights on it and it almost set the house on fire sweatdrop

We always have really tall trees, I suppose we are all really tall people so it works out. Good heavens! Almost set the house on fire? Your tree must have been really dry. Keep it watered!

I like the fake X-mas tree breed, I can't justify buying a dead tree for the sake of the season.
I love my navel tree, it makes oranges this time of year, and I don't have to buy peopl gifts...just give them the oranges.

W. Faux, in some parts of the US (well the South anyway...) you can actually find some places that will dig up the root ball and put a burlap bag around it. That way you can have a real tree in your house for Christmas time and then you can plant it out in your yard. This is the first year that my family is trying it this way. I'll have to let you know how it turns out. And, you are not charged more to dig it up (than you are for cutting it). So you aren't just killing a tree for a month's worth of joy!

Holly. my favorite holiday plant is Holly. Which is odd because I can't seem to find anyplace that sells it, or makes it into wreaths. there is a church in portland that has Holly Bushes in front, carefully grown and shaped. Where does one go to find this bush and is there any reason it wouldn't be widely available on the west coast?
