He was pleased at the respectful and reasonable nature of this rogue, and certainly glad that this situation wouldn't come to blows. It was a relief, and well... Brychan had done his job, and with no real problems. He visibly began to relax, for it seemed that Cavan, as he just said his name was, was of no threat to him or his herd. He would trust that Cavan would take the detour around the herd as he was advised, thus Brychan felt he had no reason to worry. This rogue wasn't looking to steal his females like the last one had been, or atleast it didn't seem that way.

Brychan turned his gaze to the hind and smiled lightly, until Cavan asked for his name. Oh yes... it was only polite that he should give it. "Brychan" he replied, dipping his antlered head lightly. "I'm the Lord of this herd." There, if Cavan ever needed to speak to the top stag in the herd, he would already know who to look or ask for.

The hind was still smiling happily at Cavan, when Brychan introduced himself. Wait a second, had he just said he was the lord? “No you’re not.” Maysa protested. Obviously she hadn’t heard the news yet. As she stared at Brychan, her mind raced. There had certainly been a great deal of talk and excitement throughout the herd lately, but Maysa hadn’t listened to any of it. She had been busy making sure her mother didn’t walk into any trees, the older hind had been even more absent-minded that usual. But Maysa hadn’t found overly it strange, even after Dyani kept insisting they keep to themselves for a time.

If Brychan’s claim were true, it would make sense. She had indeed heard the clashing of antlers for Anlach, and of course it was likely somebody would challenge the lord for his position. Suddenly looking uncomfortable she took a step back, gathering her thoughts. “Did you… defeat Fell Lore?” Maysa eventually asked in a soft, unhappy tone, her green eyes wide. She didn’t want it to be true, but that was life, no?

He appreciated the stag’s leniency and listened to him with intent ears listening to the name and memorizing it. It was not a second later, not even when his maw had paused, that he announced his position within the herd and as it slipped forward Cavan felt his heart freeze, skipping a beat. He had known he was in the presence of a high ranking deer, but he never would have imagined he was in the shadow of a Lord. Teal eyes widened a fraction.

‘I hope I haven’t offended him in any fashion…he doesn’t seem to be disappointed though, so maybe I’ve played things right,’ he enquired within his head, now looking back to Maysa who protested the position.

What connection did she have with this herd? Clearly she didn’t collect near the home oak often…either that or it wasn’t frequently that she discussed political issues within the herd with other deer, hinds and stags alike. Who was Fell Lore to her? Clearly she knew of the recently replaced Lord, but not of the one who stood before her towering above the both with his expansive rack and many tines.

Maysa's first comment caught him by surprise and he lifted a brow, turning to look at her as he tried to place her. Wasn't she one of Fell Lore's daughters? Well she did look a great deal like him, he had to admit. If that was the case, then shouldn't she be aware of her father's defeat? Some obviously wasn't paying much attention to her father's affairs.

Brychan blinked at the hind a few times, before nodding his head in affirmation to her question, "I did." He had also challenged Fell Lore the year before, but then he had lost. This year, he had managed to take the position of Lord. He thought the word had gotten around the herd by now. Oh well.

Oh, how embarrassing. Maysa made a mental note to keep more attention on things during Anlach. But this had been her first Anlach as an adult and she’d felt odd about it. So she had kept away from most of the herd. That explained some her lack of knowledge over the situation.

The hind’s embarrassment was paired with her disbelief that the strong stag she called father could have lost. She had always thought of him as unbeatable; a sentinel that would be watching over the herd for a long time to come. That daydream had crumbled around her.

“Congratulations.” Said Maysa after a time spend in thoughtful silence, not wanting to appear rude. Brychan seemed to care about the herd. He would take care over everyone well. Though it still wouldn’t be the same.

His eyes swiveled to the two characters, listening to them at every spoken word, though few, and made note of what he came to understand. The uprooting of a beloved Lord often rippled through the herd uncomfortably at first, but he wasn't aware of the position the young hind held with the previous leader.

What could he say? Would he congratulate the deer beside him even though he had no connections to this herd whatsoever? Would it be rude for him to not congratulate him? All the same it was his place to start heading out and with every growing second with Brychan he wanted to move quickly.

Brychan just smiled and dipped his head slightly, "Thank you." He knew who she ways, and he knew how she must feel. He didn't hold any of it against her or thought any less. Its just how things went... the changing of Lords isn't easy for everyone after all. Although, he could have sworn that Fell Lore seemed to be relieved of the responcibility it brought him. Well... perhaps the older stag could take it easy now and enjoy life more. What that meant for Brychan, he wasn't sure. After all.. he had strove to earn the position for so long.. and now he had it. Hopefully, he would do well and not let anyone down.

A glance was given to the rogue stag, "It was a pleasure to meet you Cavan" he said, and then looked back to Maysa. He paused, waiting for her to move first before he would follow after her.

Maysa smiled softly. Well, this Brychan seemed like a strong stag. Maybe later she could go in search of her and see how he was? Yes, that would be nice. The hind mused over the new information, staring off into the distance. It took her a moment to realize she Brycan was looking at her expectantly.

“Mm?” It was time to go, was it? “Oh!” Maysa gave Cavan a happy smile. “It was lovely to meet you.” Well, it seemed she would get no stories out of the stag today. Turning away she took a few steps before stopping. After a moment she looked over her shoulder at Brychan, her expression sheepish. “Um… which way is it?”

Brychan's statement was kind enough, but it was laced in authority and immediately he understood it was his duty to move out of the way and clear the area. Even so, his hooves remained perfectly still, watching patiently as Maysa understood as well what Brychan's implications were. He offered her a smile when she gave him a gentle farewell and he nodded in reply.

"I was glad to have had this short meeting with you, Miss Maysa. Have a good evening. To you as well, Lord Brychan," he offered that much as he shifted onto his other side still watching them. Cavan was unsure if leaving was appropriate as they took their own leave, but maybe it was the Lord's wish for him to witness the leave of the rogue from his territory.
