"When I left my ship, I honestly did not expect to find a village like this so simply. Not that it was simple to locate. Without Mika, I would have just continued on my blind journey." Kyo glanced out a small window close to him then looked back to her grandfather. "Then again, what I've seen is pretty limited to sky and sea.

The old man smiles and chuckles softly. "There are not many who would have known that this village was here. We are well hidden. I'm sure that with Mika to guide you, you will get your land eyes yet my boy." He places a hand on Mika's shoulder. "Now my dear, I must tell you of the changes that have gone in since you left. You notice that you were not killed on sight?"
Mika nods and looks at Kyo before looking back at her grandfather. "I did notice that the villagers only looked, they did not attack. What has gone on that made them act that way? Granted I wouldn't have allowed them to kill either of us." She crosses her arms across her chest. "We all know that I am the best fighter in the village."
Her grandfather chuckles again. "That is true, they would not have been able to beat you. As for the goings on... Well, one of the elders has passed, and has been replaced with a younger man, a man with new ideas. They are no longer requiring the task that you were bashed over."
Mika stiffens and her eyes sharpen on her grandfather. "Is this true?"

Kyo looked between Mika and her grandfather. He wasn't quite sure if the task he spoke of was the one she'd explained earlier. He also had no clue trying to read her reaction. Was she happy that whatever was going on had changed...? Normally, someone doesn't look so on guard when they're happy about someone...

Her grandfather nods his head. "It is true young one."
Mika looks at Kyo and smiles. "This is very good news."

"If I may ask...what is such good news?" Kyo figured it concerned what she was talking about earlier, the ritual or whatever one would call about murdering one they love.

Mika beams at Kyo. "Do you remember what you and I had discussed earlier? The reason for my banishment? Apparently they have revoked the old ways."
"Not all of the old ways my dear, just some." Her grandfather smiles a bit, then looks to Kyo. "The reason why you were not attacked when first entering the village is simple, you are with Mika. If you had ventured here alone you would have been killed."

Kyo didn't quite know what they were talking about but he didn't want to insult his hosts so he seemed compliant in understanding. "I see. Mika...if you were at risk of being killed, why did we venture here to begin with?" Clearly, she didn't know she was safe from her exile until after they arrived so why risk it?

"I knew that my grandfather would have kept me safe long enough to get in and then get out. But I needed to get something." Mika looks over her shoulder to a door. "It's something special."

Kyo glanced at the door then back to her. "Alright..." Mika's stories were conflicting a great deal and it was making Kyo somewhat suspicious. How exactly did this village work and how were their laws decided? Whatever the reason, he wouldn't question when he was in their territory. Maybe he would as Mika at a later date after they left the village.

Mika knew that she wasn't making much sense to Kyo. It was very hard to explain things to him because no one really understood the village unless they grew up there. She knew too that she was going to have to explain her standing in the village, along with her grandfathers position. Though she had been banished she knew that her people could not have killed her. She moved over to the door going inside the room and quickly coming out with a wrapped package, holding it close to her chest. "I don't want us to stay any longer. I don't feel comfortable here despite the fact that I know no harm will come. Besides I think I owe you a better explanation."

Kyo looked at Mika's family then nodded a bit when he looked back to her. "Ok...whatever you want." He glanced at the package but wasn't going to question unless she spoke about it first. There was a lot of mystery surrounding this woman. Kyo was becoming curious about what he'd gotten himself into when she offered to lead him to Hokkaido.

Mika bowed to her grandfather and kissed him lightly on the cheek before taking Kyo's hand and moving them back out of the village. Once they are a good distance away she turns to him. "Once we find a place to make camp I will explain everything. I promise."

It's not like Kyo could argue otherwise. There wasn't much options considering the situation. "Ok then..." Kyo immediately got to gathering firewood. Even if it was a hinderance, he did not remove his spear from its place across his back.

Mika sets up bedrolls and then unpacks some food. She put the package that she had taken from the village in her pack as she took out the food.

Having collected a fair amount of firewood, Kyo returned to their campsite and it was fairly quiet as he got the fire going. It got dark soon and crickets started chirping along with the cackling fire. Every once in a while. Kyo wanted to speak up but he figured he'd wait until Mika spoke first. The item she retrieved from the village was on his mind still.
