[but of course :3]

There was an impressed sound form Sebastian and Balthazar as they watched from the door of the house, and a scuffling form inside the higher fornt window of the house as the other knights went to look out of the higher window.
Felix, however, was oblivious to this and smiled as Vence surprised him. Finding himself in an awkward position and off-balance, Felix quickly pushed his weight onto is staff so it dug into the ground, while mumbling quickly to get the staff to grow. It did so, the length being forced backwards to protect his back from another blow, while he swung his weight around the pole to use it to quickly spin out of the way. He dropped his legs as he span, in line to scoop Vence’s legs from under him.

Vence jumped before Felix could trip him, surprised at his friend's speed. As he jumped he swung his sword, attempting to knock the pole out of Felix' grip. By now Vence was satisfied with how well the broadsword suited him. Not as good as his older sword, but effecient in doing it's job nonetheless.

Felix naturally continued as Vence jumped. unable to stop, so it was a litle too late when he realised that vence was about to strike the pole. This realisation caught him a little off-balance, and he place done hand down on teh ground to steady himself, therefore leaving him with only one hand gripping teh pole when Vence struck. he gripped it hard and took the brunt fo teh blow, which jarred the pole off to one side and twisted his wrist along with it. he snarled in pain and frustration as teh pole was knocked form his hand and instantly lurched forwards after it. aware that Vence would probably persue him and scrambled for the pole and once he got there, he put all his weight on his front hands and kicked out at Vence with his back legs.

Vence Pursued Felix for only a short moment, before realizing the danger. Quickly sidestepping the blow, he spinned in a semi-circle, attempting to use his momentum to deal a quick, hard blow. Knowing Felix would probably duck or back away, he redied himself for a counter afterward. This was going to take longer than he thought.

Felix ducked into a roll to get out fo the way of the blow and quickly got to his feet. he gripped his bostaff in two hand and quickly countered with a upwards sweeping blow from the bottom half of his staff.

Vence blocked the blow with a sweep of his sword, let it travel behind him, then threw it over his head. Either Felix could somehow block it, dodge it, or get hit by it.

Felix, finding hismlef unable to block it with his staff, twisted off to the side to dodge it. He tucked his fingers in and once the sword had swept down, forced it away off to the side to try and jarr it out of Vence's balance. He instantly ducke dot teh floor and swept hsi leg under Vence's again, making use of teh speed advantage he had begun to notice over Vence.

Meanwhile the band of remaining knights along with the Balthazar household had gathered at the windows and alreayd started to choose sides, each pocket of people whooting and cheering when 'their' fighter got an advantage. A couple of neighbours poked tehir heads curiosuly out fo windows.

Vence swore silently to himself at his stupidity for being so direct. There was no way he could stop his sword from moving, but he still could hold on. Letting it swing away from him, a soft thump behind him told him the sword had dug itself into the ground. With barely time to spare, he jumped as Felix' foot was inches away from his own; he even could swear their ankles touched.

Backflipping over his own broadsword, he pulled it from the ground, but continued to hold it as a dagger, albeit a large one. He was beginning to play a defensive part in this scene. If he continued with close cambat, however favorable he was towards it, he would no doubt get his a** handed to him. Smiling at the challange, and even more at the possibility of losing, he shook himself slightly, getting his muscles to relax and be ready to jump away or attack whenever he needed to.

It was only now that he was able to focus not just on felix, but his entire surroundings. There was not much advantage for him in a wide open space, which half of was occupied by an invisible dragon watching the fight. Several others were watching as well, and he could hear them cheering for whoever they thought would win. To be honest, he wasn't to sure he was going to win easily any more.

"Well, isn't this fun? I never knew you were such a great fighter."

Felix grinned, but kept his eyes on Vence. He wasn’t much tired form the exertion: a lifetime of hard labour had given him great endurance, but he nevertheless panted in deep controlled breaths when he had a moment to relax. Being without nostrils, he had no other way of breathing, and his tongue lolled out a little to clear his airways. He forced himself to centre himself and finally licked his lips.
“You think so? Thanks, you know I've always admired your fighting too. Though I seem to do much better at sparring like this than in real battles. I’d rather be better at proper fighting like you are.”
He was 100% truthful in this, but nevertheless had the sense that he was, indeed, beginning to improve his skills. He had never been able to focus entirely on combat before, but the freedom to do this over the past few weeks was doing him good.
He noticed that Vence seemed reluctant to come in much closer again, and took the opportunity to check his surroundings. The wide open space was good, although if he really wanted ot get an advantage over Vence and use his skills to the maximum, he would have to push him out towards one of the building’s walls and use them as a platform. If he concentrated his heat vision he could spot where Serol was, but he had no fear of running into him - no doubt the dragon would move out of the way. Although he would prefer not to, since any movement risked detection from the crowd.
The crowd.
Felix chanced a look away from Vence to the score of people surrounding them and began to feel a little self conscious. A few people called his name and Vence’s and he saw the knights smiling at them. He didn’t want to mess up...
He returned his eyes to Vence and forced himself to calm down a little more.
Mess up...that was what skrews you up with the monsters. You’re so afraid of messing things up and getting other hurt or getting killed that you don’t concentrate. You make stupid mistakes.
He frowned a little at this realisation. He was right - in the fights before he had put too much pressure on himself to get things right first time and he had suffered for it because he hadn’t focused. Even in being killed he didn’t think of himself, but worried about disappointing and upsetting his family back in the Underdark - as if he had wasted his hard-earned gift of freedom by cutting his life short. The reason why he was doing so well with his fight against Vence was that it was simply a spar - no strings attached, no judgements, just fun. A friendly fight between friends.
He chuckled to himself, pleased at having identified his own weakness. He wouldn’t allow it to rule him again.
He let his heat vision die down and took in a deep breath, tasting the air. He let his expectations fall away and ignored the crowd like he had been doing before.
The outcome of this isn’t important he told himself, but smiled. He knew that Vence was trying to keep some distance between them, and Felix knew that his bostaff would excel when he had a greater reach than Vence.
You’re going down, buddy.
Felix then charged towards Vence, his bostaff ready and easily the size of his height, held towards the end to give maximum reach. He’d come at Vence fast and try to get as many hits in as he could, using the openings created when Vence was forced to block.

[ooh, is it finally almost over? xd I need to learn how to post a lot. writing a story is one thing, but a roleplay post is totally another. whee ]

Vence smiled at the comment, a hint of pride stirring within. During his training years, before coming here, he never really was complemented. Only constructive criticism was his reward. But he still had pressed on, hoping that he would be praised for his skill. Now, he supposed, the training paid off.

"Proper sparring is preferrable. It's not mindless combat, it's a 'strategic planning enhancing exercise.' It's good training for future combat; you'll benefit from this, no doubt about it."

Vence allowed Felix, and himself, to take a short break. He had noticed before that Felix didn't exactly have a nose, but he didn't know how that would effect him. He could only breathe through his mouth, that much was obvious, but that meant he was limited in endurance when it came to fast pace action. That made it unfair, in Vence's eyes.

After a few minutes, Felix seemed ok again, and Vence readied himself as he dashed towads himself, not really sure what to expect yet.

[yepyep - Felix has one more flourish up his sleeve if he can get vence to the edge of the arena :3]
As vence dashed towards him Felix clashed, making full use of the reach of his bostaff. He held it in the middle so he used both ends, and forced his strength into quick attacks with both ends, meeting any sword blocks and then jabbing with the end for Vence’s head to keep him on his toes. All this time he forced forwards, trying to get Vence to retreat. His style had certainly shifted to full-on attack now, and he seemed relatively unconcerned about the risk of any blows he had.

Vence, despite his quick movements, now fully accustomed to the large blade he held in his hands, was able to quite plainly realize that if Felx kept this up, he was finished. He was forced to take a step back...then another, and another. He saw right through Felix' plan, but that made no difference: some plans, regardless whether you see them or not, cannot be stopped once put into motion.

Vence smiled openly, despite the natural fear of losing inside him. This was for fun, after all, but they were both putting their all into this duel. He was happy for Felix, knowing his friend would win this match. he was unlucky this time. Maybe if he had used his proper weapon, he would've won. Maybe. No one would ever know, unless time could be turned back.

Vence was now quite close to the wall, and was now relying on pure instictive defence, holding his sword like a board, with one side dangerous to both of them, doing his best to block every attack. Occasionally one would slip by and whack him hard on his leg or arm, but he ignored the pain.

[hope this doesn’t count as godemode-y. Just thought I’d get it finished quickly]
Felix carried on with his attacks, and smiled through maintained the same determined look on his face. He was going for gold now, sotospeak, and every indication he was winning brought more confidence. When Vence was forced practically with his back against the wall, his own attacks and swings were limited, and he was forced to return to more jabbing than anything else, but at the same time Vence’s swings were limited. He knew that one good blow that could force Vence onto the ground would be the winning one. He didn’t want to hurt his friend, but at the same time the blow needed to be effective enough to leave no argument as to the outcome of the match. as they reached the wall he smirked - his little plan having come to fruitarian.
There were times when being a moonmaw paid off.
He threw his staff straight at Vence’s head to throw him off and force him to break his defence. He was now without a weapon - but considering he was about to (hopefully) finish the fight he wasn’t concerned. He took the opportunity of the broken defence to jump over Vence head and onto the vertical wall. As a moonmaw he could scale it easily, almost as if it was the ground itself. He ran up it, twisted backwards and grabbed Vence by the shoulders and used all his strength to flip Vence up into the air. From there he leap off the wall, twisted in the air and kicked him away and straight onto the ground with surprising force.

[*ahem* this has nothing to do with watching too much ‘kung fu panda’ today. Nothing. Lol XD]

[Godmoding? What godmoding? I see no godmoding. xd ]

Vence ducked to avoid a blow to the head, then stepped forward to swing his sword. The problem was, there was no one there.

"Damn," was the only word from his mouth, before he was lifted into the air, then kicked straight towards the ground. There was little distance to cover, but he still knew it would hurt. Bracing himself, throwing his hands behind his head, he met the ground with full force, doing nothing to stop himself, though he knew he could have easliy planted it.

Clumsily rolling over, slowly regaining the air knocked out of him, he glanced up at Felix. Still smiling, he nodded, silently congratulating him before forcing himself off the ground.

"I have heard stories of the Moonmaw's acrobatic talents, but I've never seen it with my own eyes. Hell, I still haven't seen it, you were too fast for me."

[haha sometimes I get paranoid about it xp whee ]

Felix looked at Vence, and grinned. He held out a hand to help Vence off the ground.
"Thanks. I thought I'd have an advantage there - i'm glad it paid off. Good fight, huh?"
He laughed, happy at the victory, but even happier at having found his confidence and having found a great opponent in the sparring. The crowd cheered around them, and there were several disgruntled mumbles as a few bets were paid out.
"You ok?" he asked, worrie dthe last stunt might've hurt Vence.
