Rath replied, a little taken aback, "Well...hello, Kreen." Rath was hoping these two would listen to the other that walked off with the dragon, and tell him, in detail, exactly what is going on here. He walked toward Artes, or so that was what the other named Zeal called him. These two characters were very different from eachother, Rath noticed of his new "roomates". He then started worrying he was being a bit too annoying and he didnt really get the seriousness of the matter. He decided to shut up for awhile and just follow the elven one.

Kreen turns from his place on the cliff and begins to walk toward the dormitories, his thoughts now turning to his situation. He is currently stuck on an island in the middle of an ocean full of some of the most dangerous predators in the world. He is currently on said island with his standard assortment of blades, his basic assassin clothing, and his own natural abilities and skills. The rest of his equipment is on the mainland, which the very coast is over a mile away. How to get his equipment from there to here will require a great deal of thought. As the Fae assassin walks, he comes abreast of the second human, the newcomer, and speaks since the elf does not. "In coming here you have been added to a small group of us who are recruited to guard the children of the dragon's mate, Mirage. We know not when the eggs will hatch, no one has seen fit to give us an idea, but we have been told that ours will be a difficult task. You met us today as we were being tested by our human...leader, we shall call him for now. I expect that you will be tested much the same not long from now."

((It is time to get this party really started. I have sent out PMs to all presently inactive members of this thread and I hope that they will follow the instructions there. While this slower method of starting up allows greater characterization and development room it is so painfully slow... I don't want this thread to die because there are too few Dragonai to pull it off. I am going to get started on planning out the First Intervention, larger plot event, with this in mind.))
Zeal walked into the faintly illuminated lair, his steps making only faint sounds. The open eyes of the dragon there waited for him to speak. He bowed slightly before moving a short distance to one side, maintaining a distance between himself and the beautiful dragon who lay coiled around her clutch.
"Lady Mirage, the test went fairly well. Artes is less experienced than we thought an elf would be but his ability to learn seems easily high enough to compensate. Kreen is as effective as expected and seems to prefer a hybridization of the mundane and the magical in his attacks." Zeal stood erect, meeting Mirage's gaze squarely. "We encountered another possible recruit in the Waste, a human. He survived at least one battle against the monsters there by the look of him but I want to see how he performs for myself before introducing him to you. I can bring him now if you insist, however."
Valden took a position partly between Mirage and the passageway. His eyes swept her form and then fastened on her calm gaze. He was restless night given form.
"Artes is a more pressing matter. He has only used a few of the arrows that you gave him but because of the limitations on that weapon he has not practiced with it. He must be given a weapon that he can use for training." Valden took a slow breath. "We believe that a trip to Myops is in order. It is there that we might be able to obtain a weapon suitable for both training and actual use."
Mirage listened to both her mate and Zeal with a calm demeanor. Her slow breaths releasing streams of shimmering light that swam through her scales as she pondered their words for a moment.
"I leave the new human's introduction to you two. Your judgement is good enough for that." She smiled slightly. "As for Artes, I believe that you are right. Although I do not know how wise it is to enter such a land again within such a short time, I do think that you are right. It is necessary. I do not need to tell you to be careful in human lands. They are difficult creatures to predict, subtle and blunt in the same moment."

((YAY! Fun stuff!))
He jumped as the Fae started speaking after the seemingly long silence. Rath nodded every now and then to show he was listening. He took in every word that the one behind him spoke, as he followed the elf in front of him. He was ready for the upcoming test, though he was worried that he would fail and make a fool of himself. The journey of the future would be a long and prosperous one, he thought. Rath pondered what had happened over the past period of time. He was lost in a desert, and now, he is to befriend and guard a dragon... All he had was the clothes on his back and his weapons...He was excited, intrigued, yet doubtful. Would he be right for this? The human decided not to question it, his intuition, which he always trusted, said that it would all be a great adventure. Rath couldnt wait for the hatchlings to be born, or to meet the mother named Mirage, or to prove himself to this leader. He wanted badly for it all to happen instantly. But he knew it wouldnt. He would wait in his room until then- get a nice long rest for the next morning and whatever it would bring.

Once Artes had made his way inside the dormitory, he went to his bed and fell to his knees on the ground. He began to work furiously, drawing magical symbols on the ground, executing them with his words and producing food. They started quite pitiful. Some were hard rolls, others pieces of raw or spoiled meet. After every failed attempt he threw the embarressment out the door, possibly coliding with his fellow roommates.
Tears were streaming from his eyes with every incantation as his fingers began to become raw from drawing the magical circles and symbols.

Sunlight filters down through the leaves of the dark squat trees that line the path, forming a somehow sinister pattern on the rough dirt trail. Strange cries and throaty noises sound distantly through the swamp, slightly muffled by the mist that lingers, even here near the swamp's edge. Down the trail saunters a lizard, standing three feet high and about eight feet long. A gossamer saddle of something resembling spider silk rests on its back, and slouching in the saddle is a fae with an expression of extreme boredom on his face.
Behind him on the trail are two more riders mounted similarly. Their expressions mirror those of the point rider. Where the fae travel all sounds cease besides their occasional bored yawns and the hisses of their lizard mounts. This is the fae swamp of the fae, one of the most perilous places in the world. However, the fae themselves give it its reputation, and they fear nothing within its confines, knowing themselves masters. These fae are members of the border patrol - a position of prestige in most nations, but a punishment among the fae. The border patrol is considered a convenient spot to place troublesome youth or political opponents, far from the major cities.
The fae riding point looks up briefly from his glazed examination of the ground in front of him. Shaking his disheveled flame red hair from his eyes, he looks at a bend in the path coming up ahead. Turning in the saddle, he announces "Wargs. A few. Who wants them?" The second fae rolls his eyes and looks behind him. "Merd...hey, Merd!" A snore from the third fae is the only response. "Oh, not again...he always skips his turn. That makes it your turn Dran." With a grimace the first fae slips from the saddle, landing lightly on the ground. "You two always get the interesting encounters, why do I get stuck with the ugly dumb ones?" The second fae laughs "That nymph had no interest in any fae as ugly as you Dran. I, on the other hand..." he trails off with a wink. A groan of disgust escapes Dran as he turns and heads towards the bend in the path. "We've been hearing about that nymph for three months now Gyrd, give it a rest."
As he rounds the corner Dran bounces lightly on his toes and slips off the path into the trees. A slight twist of one hand and a muttered syllable later his form shimmers and a new toadstool rests against the tree he was leaning against a moment before. Gradually the sounds of the swamp return to their prior volume. Amidst them is a new sound - part growl, part sob, part rabid scream. Across the path from Dran a beast stretches one clawed paw onto the path. The monster looks like a bear, if bears had 4 inch talons and green glowing eyes. Foam drips from its muzzle as it turns, sniffing the air. Moving entirely onto the path, the warg abruptly stands erect and utters a long howl. From further up the path four more of the creatures appear.
With a slight sigh of inner regret, Dran considers his options. Well, if I were my father, I'd just blast them to cinders. If I were my mother - well, I wouldn't be stuck out here. he concluded with a wry grin. But, since I'm not...let's have some fun.
Dropping his illusion he steps onto the path a few feet in front of the first warg. A fey smile lights his onyx eyes as he launches himself towards the startled monster. Ducking inside it's unprepared swipe he channels the kinetic energy of his body into an explosive series of lightning fast punches up the entire length of the beast's stomach and chest, ending with a double fisted uppercut directly to the warg's jaw. A discerning observer would have noted that the actual contact point was an inch in advance of each hit. Any observer at all would have noticed that a fae's punches should most certainly not have done the damage that they had. The warg sways for a moment, head cocked at an impossible angle, before slumping to the ground. Rolling to the side Dran bounces back to his feet. And then dives to the side as a wickedly sharp set of talons cleaves the air where he had been standing. Well, so much for the element of surprise. All four of the wargs were at him now, slashing and snarling. Dodging and rolling, he was able to avoid their strikes, but even though they tended to get in each others way, there was no opening large enough to give him a shot at a killing blow. I can hit these all day without making any progress, it's time for a change of direction. Mid-dodge, Dran leaped straight at his nearest opponent, muttering something under his breath. Growling ferociously, the warg's huge paw connected squarely with Dran's face, spinning him completely around and sending him directly towards another warg.
Yes. Wincing through the pain, Dran accentuated his spin, lashing out with his foot, focusing all the energy of his motion into the contact point - his heel. He felt the beast's skull give and then collapse in an explosion of bone fragments and brain matter. Landing heavily, he rolled to the side just fast enough to avoid being pinned by the falling body of the warg he had just slain. Two down, three to go. Halfway to his feet, a heavy blow caught him in the center of his back. Even diffused through his body, the force of the blow half-stuns him, picking him up and throwing him a dozen feet to land heavily against a tree. Blinking back sudden tears from the impact he staggers groggily to his feet, just as a keening wail pierces the air. A brilliantly white spiderweb of light catches the wargs, holding them fast. The web grows brighter and brighter, the keening wail ever more piercing, until with a sharp crack the web seals itself, every line joined to every other line. A moment later the web fades, and chunks of fried warg drop to the ground.
Blinking to clear the afterimages from his eyes, Dran looked wryly at his two smirking companions. "Very amusing." Shaking his head, he walked back down the trail towards his mount.

Kreen looks over the room as he enters, passing the first two sets of beds set perpendicular to the walls and coming to a stop at his own in the back right of the room. He then turns and takes in the specifics of the area, noting the coarse, dull brown woven spread over each of the beds, each totally uniform with the others. Each, with it, had a small mound of equally coarse woven fabric that serves as a pillow at the head of it. Finally, Kreen's eyes settle on the elf, sighing inwardly. This is not what he signed up for. Dealing with emotional problems is not something that he, as a Fae and an assassin, has done in a decade and a half. Deciding to use all that he has at his disposal, the assassin turns toward the newcomer and points at his companion in a silent gesture of 'deal with this' and an equally silent plea of 'I haven't the slightest idea what I'm doing here!' in his eyes.

Rath looked around in disbelief. His eyes pointed at Kreen, and he mouthed, me?. He rolled his eyes and walked toward the elf. This isnt part of the deal. I wanted a dragon...not a child to care for. As the fae and elf had their beds, he went to an empty one and put his stuff down. He then turned around to the kneeling elf. He tapped him on the shoulder, not knowing where to start. "Er- dont beat yourself up so much..." he looked up for help. "We..all make mistakes here and there. Everyone, even...Kreen...needs help now and again...Uh right?!" He looked up again. He took a hankerchief from his coat pocket and gave it to the elf. "Here. Wipe your eyes. Get up, and try again later." After what he thought was enough consoling, the human went to sit down as if that was his hardest task yet.

The elf stopped the moment that his shoulder was touched. He accepted the kerchief and dryed his eyes.
"Th-thank you sir. I a-appologize for my selfishness. Thank you."
He took a deep breath, focused his energy and did the spell one more time.
"Renori-esa!" A burst of light dove fourth and created a great rune on the floor and bore fourth a table laden with fruits and grilled veggies fit for three.
Artes smiled greatly and laughed. "Heh-heh... D-dig in folks..."

Rath smiled as the elf accomplished something. He was also in awe at the magic, of which hes never seen before. He then felt old, "Eh..dont call me sir! The names Rath. Well come on Kreen," he said, moving toward the table and foods, "you know youre hungry!" He stood up again and took a granny smith apple from the table. The juice squirted in his mouth, it was refreshing and quite delicious. He spoke through full cheeks, "Goot chob, dese are grjeat!"

Artes blushed slightly. "Wh-why thank you Mr. Rath. I am very glad I could help." The elf took a plate and moved over to his bag and took out three pairs of utencils. He took some grilled asperagus, broccoli, carrots, and a pair and ate at his bed, smiling meekly.

Kreen steps easily over to the fruit, taking hold of one of the smaller pieces and adjusting his assassin mask so that he can eat. Wordlessly, the Fae takes a bite of the fruit. Some of the finest fruit I've had in a long time... the Dying Breath thinks without a single betraying motion, taking a second bite and surveying the present vegetables. Ooh, I haven't had these in years! he thinks as he takes hold of an asparagus stalk.
((Kreen is, rather obviously, a great deal more candid in his mind than he is verbally.))

Artes finished and set his plate aside. Yes, this was what he could do. He knew he could become better, he just had to try harder. He'd have to practice... alot, but he would become just as good as Kreen and Zeal and make sure he would not be a burden to them.

Zeal, Valden and Mirage talked for nearly an hour. The subjects of conversation ranged widely but were all in relation to the three new 'guards'. Once everything had been decided Zeal and Valden walked out to the ledge, leaving Mirage to cuddle with her unhatched clutch.
Go and hunt my friend. I will handle the 'briefing'. Zeal's mind held a note of ironic sarcasm as he patted Valden on the leg and walked along the windy ledge to the dormatory cavern, three small bags at his waist. After almost an hour of discussion and debate there had been some significant decisions made and Zeal's expression was guarded as he reached the end of the narrow passage and entered the cavern.
Artes had made dinner aparantly. This almost brought a smile to Zeal's face as it was something that none of the others could even attempt. Also, once Artes got a weapon that he could actually practice with he would become a very dangerous marksman. The choice of enchantments that he had used in battle were quite effective and showed that he had good sense at his disposal, even if he lacked the instincts for battle that humans possessed.
"Those of you who are still eating, keep eating. There are a few things that have been decided and they apply to you." Zeal stood at the entrance of the room, his eyes moving from one individual to another as he spoke directly to them. "Artes, the bow you have right now isn't going to do any good in the long run so you need another one. You also need to start practicing your arrow making skills since no purchased arrows will last forever. With these things in mind we will be heading to the forest again so that you can obtain a bow of high enough quality to last. We will be visiting one of the northern villages so they probably won't know you. You should also try to get any advice or belongings that you feel you could need. Kreen, you and Rath will be dropped off at Myops for the same reasons. You need to collect your belongings and he needs new ones. If you think of any other things that might be useful then get them." Zeal took the pouches from his belt and casually threw them, one to each of the three. Each one landed lazily some few inches from the intended recipient with a dull clink.
"Artes and I will return to the hollow to collect you when our business in the forest is concluded. Rath, Kreen knows where it is so stick close to him. By the way, I don't believe that you introduced yourself to me. In most circumstances that would be considered rude. It doesn't really bother me but you might want to keep it in mind for the future." Zeal paused to take a steady breath. "After you have collected your belongings we will be returning here only long enough to drop them off. We are going to fly over three regions that you will need to know something about in the future. Kreen is familiar with one already and both he and Artes have a little experience with another. The third, however is foreign to all three of you and it is dangerous enough to be worthy of notice. If you have any questions this is the time to ask them."
Valden walked out of the Lair proper with a combined sensation of hunger and restlessness. He smiled, chuckling at Zeal's sense of humor as he moved to the ledge's edge. Very well. I have the more pleasant occupation tonight. He leapt off the edge, diving toward the Silver Sea rapidly. Breaking his descent long before impact he rose into the air and began to fly to the west, toward his usual hunting grounds in the southern tip of the southernmost of the human kingdoms in this area, Iracund. The wild herds should have a few bucks extra at this time of year. Valden's toothy grin sparkled slightly, in stark contrast with the black of his scales.
