The Kami cringed, hoping not to make an enemy out of her one close friend.
"You make it sound so definite, that we can win."
A small laugh coursed through her.
"In another life, you could very much have been one of the elders residing in Divinus."

Arannis' eyes came over a slight golden hue, holding it for a moment before they returned to their pseudo-natural blue.
"I am doomed to fail, Kami. I know myself better than any other, perhaps. I acknowledge my strengths, as well as my weaknesses. It will not be soon, but my heart will give at the sight and thought of so many slain, otherwise innocent. I can only promise this much... I will fight even then, though I may not wish to carry on."

The Kami closed her eyes and nodded, small tears forming on her eyelids.
"As will I. I will stand by your side and continue on in this struggle until my heart finally gives out."

"Strange, isn't it... how we both serve a common purpose in our creation, yet we both know how we cannot accomplish our given destiny? What is fate, as so many say... why follow it? I stand by those in service to all that is good, but I give in to no such concept as 'fate'. Simply tales to frighten the courageous, if I know anything of it."

"I am not certain, but I know my purpose, and I will not defy the one who gave me life. Until that purpose is complete, if it ever will be, I will not give my wants a second thought. Fate is fate, but what of Destiny? So many have intertwined the two."

Arannis put his head back some, recalling as best he could from his younger teachings.
"Fate is forced upon the living, perhaps at their time of death, perhaps in an involuntary act of servitude - possession, if you will. Destiny is precisely the opposite. Destiny can be forged by the destined, provided ability and force of will."

"I see."
She busied herself committing this to memory.
"My creator made me for the purpose of purging the darkness, yet it is as you say. I may not be able to fulfill this destiny. What are we to do then? Continue forward knowing that there is the chance that we are fighting endlessly? This is not a fate that I would wish for you."

Arannis held a hand out, the images of his many selves appearing.
"What better way to find other friends who will rally to the cause once we are gone?"

A small smile lit her face.
"That is very true. It is good to know that our hopes will continue forward."

"Who knows...? Perhaps we are just a pair of hopeless fools that overestimate our adversaries, perhaps not. At least it is better to come prepared to such inevitable outcomes."

"That is very true."
She smiled and placed a hand on his.
"It does not matter either way. I am happy to have come to this life, and I am happy to have met you."

"Promise me one thing, Kami.... If fate finds its way to me before it comes to you, do not relent. Do not mourn my loss. Carry on, determination your guide. It has never done me wrong, and I suspect you will find similarly."

The Kami shuddered at this thought. To have the only one close to her suddenly and permanently taken away. She choked back her fears, and nodded.
"I promise you, Arannis. I will not let up on this fight. Not until the very end."

Arannis suddenly clutched his chest, one of his extensions coming dangerously close to death. He bent over in pain, then straightened, steeling his resolve.
"Kami.... I'm sorry to have to do this to you now, but duty dictates that I finish what I started and failed. I'm coming to Entropy, very soon. Chaos is finally finished... it won't be long."
He looked out the window.
"We will meet again, perhaps not soon, but someday."
He turned, and left through the door, carefully closing it behind him.

Eri watched quietly as Arannis exited the room, then lay back on the bed, a concerned look crossing over her features. She wasn't sure whether to follow or to let him be.
