It makes me angry that someone thinks lesbians/gay men
are any different than the other. Like a girl could like yaoi
but finds yuri repulsive. If you feel repulsed, maybe you aren't as
open minded as you think.

I'm a girl and I like both Yaoi and Yuri - it is a bit hypocritical to be obsesed with one and be compleatly oposed to the other. But then again I don't now your firend personaly and can't speak for her veiws.

if some ones like yaoi and disses yuri... that is retarted... Yuri is the same difference only with girls.... that like saying when to girls hug....its okay but when to guys hug they must be gay... its profiling!

I really think that it was wrong of her to brand Yuri/Shoujo- ai as disgusting and slutty. In fact, Yuri/Shoujo-ai is one of the sweetest genres of love I have ever seen. It's cute (almost innocent in a way 3nodding ) and it's romantic. Just because she doesn't like Yuri/Shoujo-ai doesn't mean she has to blast it off by calling it filthy names. She has no right to call Yuri/Shoujo-ai that, since she seems like she hasn't watched a single shoujo-ai anime.
Oh well. I think we have porn to blame that for. neutral

It's worse when you live in a state that's in the bible belt. But I never seen anything yuri where I live, only yaoi. I'm used to really not a big fan of yaoi since most I've read were extreamly edited and wrongly translated. That all changed when I learned you can read mangas online.
Now I like all kinds of manga, cept shojo, the characters never develop. stare
But yeah like the rest said. If your friend is saying she's not homophobic, she's just lying. She's attracted to yaoi since the characters love each other, probably wanting her boyfriend to treat her like that. This is the main reason straight, homophobic girls like it. /:

I see where she's coming from. A lot of people I know think it's weird or wrong for girls to like girl/girl, or even boy/boy for that matter.
I know I've gotten some odd looks. I like Yaoi and Yuri in equal measures,myself.
But I think it's because her mind is too narrow to see that just because you don't like something,it doesn't mean that it's wrong and disgusting.

It's true. Yuri's faced more discrimination than Yaoi. I'm a Yuri girl, but I don't mind some Yaoi every now and then. Still, it kind of peeves me that it's easier to find an impossible couple doujin of CidxVincent than it is to find a plausible one like TatsukixOrihime. Yaoi's just in higher demand. Girls love guys, (some of them anyway, I wouldn't know), and to them, nothing's hotter than seeing two dudes get naked. Make it romantic and sweet and BAM. You got a fan base. Guys aren't interested in that. (some are an exception actually.) They just wanna see a girl get plowed and get nasty with each other, if anything. It's sad. Yuri is adorable, and it makes my heart melt everytime.

it's a site with alot of girlxgirl translated manga. Easy to download. Virus free. That's where I get my fix when I'm jonesin for the yuri. =]

I think that girls who like yaoi but not yuri are highly hypocritical. It's the same if a girl breaks up with her boyfriend (or girlfriend) because they don't look or act like their favorite anime, game, etc. character. Or When they say they like yaoi, but show extreme hate towards real gay men.
I personally don't understand it. They both their ups and downs, and they both suffer from certian syndromes:
Yaoi tends to dive right into the lust without hesitation (even when it's not explicit it does) however, the men within it are not exactly 'men'...
Even the most explicit yuri has some form of romantic build-up before the sex, but it suffers from the 'tomboy + girly-girl' syndrome...
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's pretty low to like one and downright hate the other, it makes whomever's doing it look like . . . well it makes them look like an a**.

It's pretty frustrating that she sees homosexuality positively only when it's two guys and not two girls. That really, really bothers me.
I think the difference there is the target groups. Yaoi's huge female fan base demands some plot, but the male part of the yuri fan base just wants to see straight up hentai of girl on girl.
I personally prefer yuri over yaoi, and it frustrates me that it's so hard to find good yuri sometimes. There's yaoi everywhere, so it's simple to find any pairing imaginable, but try and find some shojo-ai and there's nothing. It bums me out.
Basically, I agree with about everybody here.
