Hiei nodded, following the other, it was only when they were about half- way home that Hiei said anything more. "I asked that question earlier because... Because I think... I think I love you too, Kurama."
He was perfectly red, then turning redder the more he told. "At first I thought I was hoping for you to come save me just because you were the only other demon among the rest of the detectives... But then I realized that.... That I really did want you to show up because.... Because you are the closest thing to a friend that I've got.

The kitsune understood how difficult this must be to tell him feelings like that, and he knew he was telling the truth best he could by his blush. As for Kurama, he hardly knew what to say, but also knew that silence wouldn't be taken in a good way. He wasn't even sure how the other meant that he loved him. A friendship love, or a romantic love? By his saying that he was the closest thing to a friend he had, he way implying the first, but the blush implied otherwise. "I have thought of you as a friend since we started our alliance, but as for now, I think that the word 'friend' might not quite describe what I feel for you," he said, choosing his words carefully. He wasn't completely sure what his own feelings were, and believed that Hiei was most likely in the same situation.

Hiei nodded his agreement... He felt like something was off about the whole thing, nothing had happened as one would've hoped, but something.... Still felt off.
Yusuke seemingly popped out of nowhere.... seemingly, but he just couldn't help checking in with the other boy. He was supposed to be rescuing Hiei and if he was back then that would mean that Hiei was back too. He quickly managed to get the boy and his girlfriend to stop by calling out to the red- head. "Yo' Kurama.... You're back from your mission finally?" He questioned.
The girl had taken the liberty of hiding behind Kurama and turning about ten shades of red in the face. "And what's with the girl?"

The fox greeted the detective in his more normal way, nothing all that special. As for his question about the girl, he answered, "I'm honestly not sure 'what's with her,' as you so tactfully put it." He used a hint of sarcasm, but it was meant in a harmless way.

"Geeze man, I wasn't expecting anyone to freak about me checking in on you... So, is Hiei safe, or?..." Yusuke left the question hanging, honestly believing Hiei to be just some girl.

Kurama smiled softly, glanced at the boy hehind him, then answered, "Does he look fine to you?" This was, he thought, the best way to tell Yusuke that the 'girl' was in fact not a girl at all, but Hiei.

Yusuke frowned, he looked at Kurama suspiciously. "That's Hiei?" He wondered, trying to get a better look at the other, which finally happened when Hiei meekly stepped out from behind Kurama.
He seemed taken back for a couple minutes. "Jesus, man, you look so... So... Scared." Yusuke commented, truthfully.
Hiei didn't speak to the other, he didn't say a word, he just stared like a scared child at the other as though they had never met. The only reason being is that he knew Yusuke could kill him if he really wanted to and Hiei didn't want to take that risk.

The red-head put one arm around Hiei, mostly just trying to comfort him. The boy had, after all, been scared of Kurama at first, so being around Yusuke would surely be worse. "The cause of this was torture, Yusuke. Somehow, they managed to turn him human as well as... break his spirit," he explained to the detective, figuring that he needed to understand better.

".... That's pretty messed up...." The other commented. "I won't come any closer, I promise, Hiei..."
He actually took a couple steps back. "Do you want me to report this back to Koenma... I could also tell him that you and Hiei are out of commission, if you'd like.
"Thank- you." Hiei murmered, barely audible as he remained right at Kurama's side, he knew better then to believe that Yusuke would hurt him on purpose, but he still wasn't ready to test his faith in that.

"I think it would be best if you did that, Yusuke. I need to stay here with Hiei to care for him." It wasn't just that he had to take care of him, but he did actually want to. The boy wasn't a burden as he surely thought he was.

"Sure, it'll be no big deal.... I'll see you two later sometime, if you ever feel up to it that is." Yusuke commented, before walking off to inform Koenma of their prediciment, though the specifics didn't need to be mentioned, or so he thought.
"I'm sorry.... It's just.... If he really wanted to he could.... He could...." The boy looked uneasy over the whole matter.

"He has better judgement than to do that, as I have. And by the way, you don't need to be afraid, since I'm here to keep you safe," Kurama said, trying to calm the boy, wanting him to be happy. He felt as if he had to help him through this, and that the best way to start was to keep his emotions stable, and to make him feel cared for.

"I forgot about that." The other stated, truthfully, though he smiled at the other. "My mind just froze up is all.... Is that what people refer to when they have a 'brain- freeze'?"

"Usually that term refers to that sensation you get when you eat too much ice cream at once," answered Kurama. The smile on the other's face was a very nice thing to see, especially after he had been rather frightened. Was it really the fox that made him smile like that?

"Oh. Then I guess I take things too literal, don't I?" He wondered, smiling sheepishly.
