Hiei didn't have to apologize; it wasn't like he didn't want to hear about what had happened to him, necessarily. Him opening up a bit more like that would help him, in the long run. He'd be able to get out whatever emotions he felt.
The bit about sweet snow was slightly amusing, and it helped to change the subject, which had hardly been a happy one. The name he had given ice cream was cute. "So would you like for us to buy some?" the fox asked, taking his hint.

"Can we?" Hiei questioned, he seemed reserved yet happy at the suggestion.
The mention of his favorite treat seemed to cheer him up somewhat. And he decided to save wearing the kimono for later. He wanted to keep it clean.

"If that's what you want, which I'm sure it is," the boy said, making basically saying 'yes' much more complicated than it had to be.
Kurama began walking toward the nearest ice cream stand, trusting that the other would know to follow.

Hiei followed the other almost immediately, some part of himself still a little uneasy about being taken and locked away again. He chose his favorite flavor and the two headed towards a bench that looked out towards the ocean. For the first time in a long time Hiei felt safe and content, possibly even happy.

The fox noticed this change in him, simply in the way he acted. He couldn't help but to feel glad that what he had been doing was helpful. "I take it that you have enjoyed today, so far?" As usual, he was looking more for how he would react and what he would say, rather than his own enlightenment. The answer to the question was truly obvious, but he would rather ask it than stay in silence.

Hiei nodded, too busy eating his ice- cream to really comment, but he did pause to enlighten the other, since it seemed to be what Kurama wanted. "Today was the best day I've had in a long while." Hiei simply put it.

A simple nod was the fox's response, since he couldn't think of anything to say that was worth interupting the other's eating. If Hiei wanted to hold a conversation, he'd have to start it, since Kurama did not wish to bore him with something that he'd find uninteresting.

Hiei finished eating his ice- cream before he spoke again. "It's hard to believe I was still prisoner yesterday and yet today.... I'm perfectly happy."

"I can't imagine how this must be for you," the fox said truthfully. Nothing like this had happened to him, so he could only sympathize and try to make things better for the other. Hiei's happiness was the main thing he cared about, and it probably would always be.

Hiei looked away from the other, he had a question, but he was so embarrassed, he wasn't sure how to ask! But he tried anyway, he had to know.... "Kurama.... Do you.... Do you love me?" Hiei questioned, timidly.

Kurama's eyes widened slightly, but he didn't blush or show embarrassment in any other way. Over the years he had learned to not show his emotions like that. The boy wasn't quite sure how to answer the question tactfully. He did love the other, yet he didn't know how much, nor in what way, exactly. Hiei had a way of changing the subject and setting him off balance, for sure. The kitsune settled for simply saying, "Yes, Hiei, I do," in a most sincere way. This way, he could get around the details. He'd have to be more specific, later, but for now he had time to think about it.

Hiei just let out a soft 'oh' before he fell back into being silent, he watched the children on the play equipment before he stood up. "Can we go home now? I'm feeling tired." Hiei commented, following the other.

"If you're tired, then I think we had better," the boy replied. Hiei had changed the subject awfully abruptly, and didn't react quite the way the kitsune had though he would. Maybe his answer wasn't the one he had been looking for?
