Atop a hill is the gatway to Derkholm, the home of the famous Wizard Derk who helped his world escape the clutches of the Offworld and it's inhabitants raids, called the Pilgrim Parties. Sixty years later, two inhabitants remain in the old claim, raising the Griffins (known as Gryphons now) that Derk adored so much and developed on his own. A small sign is staked into the ground next to the gate, welcoming travelers.

"Welcome, dear traveler. Have you come upon Derkholm to take
home your very own Gryphon? Perhaps learn about what the
old stories say about the Pilgrim Parties? Or do you just desire
to come visit awhile? All are welcome, if you don't mind the little
balls of fluff or sleeping in the barn."

A small blue blur passes by your overhead, leaving a blue and black feather behind, resting next to where you stood on the pebbled road. Picking it up, it intrigued you to venture in and see what was what. What could happen? They're just cat-birds...aren't they?

January 14th: Mini, unannounced flatsale today. We're plotting a fun in-thread Valgryphs event, where you can win Gryphons to give to loved ones! More details soon. Also, there are 2 auctions in the planning, one a secret, for now. We've also got new certs, please check the owners post to see a few details.

June 26th: Remade the thread yet again. The old thread is still uneditable, and therefore we must move on. A flatsale is planned for the near future, and we have added Britain to our staff!

The Gryphons

Gryphons were originally developed from the cells of lions, eagles, sometimes house cats, and humans, thus giving them...some strange quirks. Here's a small little study that of what seems to be relatively common in most of the Gryphons raised in Derkholm.

Personalities

It's pretty hard to document these, really...Gryphons are just like humans, personality-wise. They all have their own thoughts and beliefs in how life should be. Some are outspoken, shy, violent, lazy, or just neutral. I will study these more and hopefully get a more detailed report up soon.

Talents

Humans have talents, so why can't Gryphons?
Most gryphons are born with a talent, and it takes time for these to be discovered, along with even more time for these to be trained to their highest abilities. These are the talents that have been discovered so far, but there are always more things to be discovered with these Gryphons, thus our research is never ending.

Guardian - Simply as that, standard Gryphons are typically guardians, tough when needed and soft the rest of the time. They're good companions for travelers who like taking risks when off on their own, or if you've got some valuables to keep protected.
Chef - They create the most delish foods, and love to share their skills with other Chefs. They usually push for parties to show of their skills and get praise, as well as to perfect whatever it is they're working on.
Artist - Give them any sort of media and expect an attempt at a masterpiece. They are creative and will decorate just about anything. Watch out, sometimes a wall is the perfect canvas for thier next work!
Designer - These Gryphs love to design anything. Whether it's gadgets, buildings, cages, or anything of the like, they eagerly help when anything needs to be designed. They usually ally with the Builders, as they work together to make most of the things that are used for Gryphons.
Warrior - Often Protective, enjoy fighting, and want to go out adventuring! Somtimes they can become bullies so watch out! They live for thier skill as fighters.
Builder - Buildings, homes, furniture...almost everything that is used nowadays is build from these gryphons. They love nothing more than to hide away in their shops, figuring out how to make things better, stronger, and outlasting from the last thing that they build. They're admired highly for the work that they've done, though most are humble towards it.
Hunter -
Intellectual - These gryphons love books, studying, and thier quiet time most of all. They are often loners and would rather be reading than off with friends. Useless facts of information are fun to them. They will be willing to share what they know when they get into a conversation whether you find it interesting or not.
Musician - Entertainers who typically play some sort of instruments. Typically the softer things. Some also have the mixed in talent of being a bard, and singing. Though...most humans wouldn't consider it singing. XD The few bards write song for humans to sing to as they themselves play the music in the background.
Sailor - These Gryphons love the sea.
Beast Tamer - If you've got tons of unruly pets, then if you can get one of these Gryphons to help you, your troubles are over. They seem to have a sort of link to all animals (more so then the regular gryphon) and can help calm the troubles of an unruly pet, find ones that have wandered off, assist in the healing of ill and/or injured pets, and many more things, we assume. Good to have if you're a pet 'whore'.
Exhibitionist - Not what you're thinking. XD They love to show off whatever skill they have, usually athetically. Long-distance fliers, Trick Flies, ect. They like putting on shows to get praise. They're also pretty risky fellows, so watch out if you've got a Exhibitionist Gryph. They might come home all broken up one day. o.o;
Healer - Thier talents lie in taking care of the sick, weak, and injured. They know herbal remedies and a few may have the ability to learn how to heal magically. If someone is in need of help they will go out and do whatever they can to assist the person's need. None have had the ability to heal magically yet.
Mage - Mages have the talents to become Wizards, the magic of Derk running through their veins. Most gryphons have small magics, here and there, but these gryphons are strong with magic, and have the ability to manipulate inanimate objects, as well as creating little things like different plants. Much research is still being done, even if there is only one known Mage Gryphon. (Elda)

The Rules

1. Always, always check avalibility to see if a Gryphon is ready for an owner or not. Never PM anyone on the staff, including this account, to bug us for a Gryphon. Instant Greylisting, perhaps Blacklisting if it's annoying enough. I really can't stress this enough. We do have patience, but not for ignorant people.
2. Don't steal any of the images from this shop, nor any other shop. That is one of the lowest lows you can get around here, stealing other artworks. If you're caught stealing anything, you're blacklisted. It's a serious offence.
3. When purchasing a Gryphon (either through flat sales, auctions, or raffles), don't whine, put down, shun, attack, or guilty-trip anyone out of what they won/win/are attempting to win. You'll get a serious talking to the first time, and further actions will be taken if it continues.
4. These pets are NOT RP-mandatory. Steele, Britain, and Saf have decided that things would be easier on everyone if they weren't so heavily demanded upon for the owner. Yet, we will have a guild where rp will be organized, plus many more other things. And yes, there will be benifits for rpers.

F.A.Q.s

Do you accept pet trades/bribes?
We do, mainly to get more Gryphon luff out there! If you wish to pet trade with us please PM Derkholm a link to your shop with your offer. We will consider every trade request recieved, but the choice of which we accept is up to us. Please don't be insulted if we don't accept your request. Remember that there is three of us and we all have different tastes. If you're willing to trade multiples for multiples, then include that in your offer. Generally we will do a custom for a custom/pre-made for a pre-made.

Why isn't my Gryphon growing? ;_; *sob*
These guys aren't like weeds. They need to grow and mature, physically and mentally. And don't you ever thing that babes grow too fast anyways? Sometimes we are waiting on the colorist to do the adult version, please be patient with us. If it has been more than 2 months please contact Orasteele immediatly and one of us will contact the colorist who has done your gryphon.

Why did s/he get one for free and I didn't/I had to pay?!
Well, most free ones come from raffles, which we have a strange liking for. Othertimes the staff in such a good mood that they'll just give some away for a trivia question. Others she might just hand out 'cause she didn't like the colouring, but didn't want her time to go to waste. So....sorry! I 'unno. ._.; Luck?

Umn... Where can we roleplay? Where is the guild?
If you feel like you want to get into RP (which we would love to see) you can do so either in the thread or make a spot in our Guild

Flat Sales

We're going to have 2 different style of flatsales. Speed sales, for people who are quick and mainly just want the pet (hopefully some rpers!). Prompt flatsales are for RP interested people who just can't get that quick post in. These will be pretty basic, with a few rules:

1. PLEASE STOP POSTING 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE SALE. This is so everyone will see the big 'Go' post. If you don't listen, you'll get yelled at the first time, and more harm can come if you don't stop.
2. You can only ask for one Gryphon per post. No. "I want #3, but if that's gone then #1."
3. You can only get one per flatsale. For you OR for a friend. This rule is nul friend-wise for a prompt flatsale. They need to prove themselves if they want one or not.
4. Prompt flatsale will last about a day maximum, with a small little paragraph you'll need to reply to, rp-wise. This may change if there's going to be a special gryphon, but that's not for a while.
5. No Post Editing Allowed! If you do not get the gryphon you want make another post with your next choice. If you edit your post you will be blacklisted.
6. Make sure that you have fun! Don't fight or put others down, 'kay? Breedables are for fun, not fighting.

Auctions

Auctions are another way of obtaining a gryphon. These will typically be around 24-48 hours, with letter/letter items accepted at mid-LD price. Rules for auctions will be posted in the thread.

Raffles are pretty rare, but can come up every once in a while, giving pretty much a fair chance for everyone with a ticket or tickets.

Valgryphs Event
An In-Thread Event

The rules of the game:
1. Do NOT create any negative feelings what-so ever. This is for FUN, both for us and for you. Please let our first in-thread even go well!
2. Valentine's is about giving to someone you love, so if you win a Valgryph, please, please give it to someone else. That's what this event is about! You may give your Gryphon to anyone, though, and co-owning with one other person is fine. Please PM your Gryphon's image and the name to the mule, if you win one!
3. If you would like your gryphon to be sent to your recipeint in a 'letter' form, please PM the gryphon's image, the note you would like to have sent along, and your name, if you wish. Your recipient will recieve an envelope that will open on Valentine's, or right around there. If you decide to do this, please send a trade of 1k to the shop account!
We reserve the right to stop this at any time if it becomes too much.
4. If there is a need for any editing of rules and such, we will let you know. ^^

--- Section One
Trivia! For this, you will have to answer a question or questions to win the gryphon. ^___^ Be the quickest person with the correct answer(s), and you win!

--- Section Two
Dice Roll! For this, you will have to match up 2 numbers that are rolled by the mule.
For adults, match the 2 numbers with a 6-sided dice.
For hatchlings, roll a 10 sided dice and match the numbers.
There will often be 2 Gryphons given out for this section of the event.

--- Section Three
Image Match! For this part, the mule will post an image of something, and you will have to post an image to go with it. wink The image will either be the same 'thing' (like a knife, and a different knife), or something that's opposite (like, a yellow feather, a purple item will be needed). We will let you know what is needed when the image match is posted.

--- Section Four
BINGO! You heard right! We'll have a planned session of bingo for maximum players. We will pass out pre-made cards with a range of numbers on it. We will then use the random number feature to draw a number. First one with a full row wins! wink There will be multiple gryphons given out with this event section, and if it goes well, maybe bingo will stay! :3
For now, there is no planned day for bingo.

This event will run until the second week in February. <3

When two gryphons fall in love they.... well we won't go there. Below you will find the nesting sites that are available for gryphons who wish to start a family of thier own. Sorry only adults and M/F couples will be able to breed.

Credits

The idea for the lineart was sparked by the books Dark Lord of Derkholm and The Year of the Griffin, by Diane Wynne Jones. This shop is elaborating on the story, as a side-story style of sorts, taking ideas from the books and building atop them.
