As most of you may know, a group of hackers have designed a site to resemble gaiaonline. I was sent a link to vote for someone's avatar, which lead me to this fake site. As someone who wasn't informed, I entered my data, and the hackers acquired my account information. Wednesday, August, 22, 2007, these hackers accessed my account, and used a trade to take 6,700 gold along with all of my items in my inventory (my storage box was untouched). They then continued their scam by using my account to send their links to my friends. One of my friends was aware of this scam, and reported my account. On Wednesday evening, my account was banned. According to tektek, that main account of mine was worth nearly 200,000 gold. I've filed a hackers report, and responded to my banning notice; however, I'm fairy certain that my items are for the most part gone. I am now using one of my inactive accounts.

I do not want your pity, sympathy, or gold. I want to destroy this scam, and I need your support. The hacker used my password to sell, give, and trade away my items, my hard work. What I propose is to have the option for users to have a DIFFERENT PASSWORD TO SELL, GIVe, AND TRADE ITEMS as opposed to logging in so that just being able to log into an account won't allow these cheaters to steal our hard work.

If this matter is important to you, please respond to this thread, link to it in your signature, and spread the word. I want this policy adopted. I want my account protected. For time's sake, I've only created one banner to put in your profile. If anyone wants to create other banners, please do so, and please link them in this thread so others may use them.

As a webpage designer myself, I would have to say that your viewpoint is misinformed.
One could think that, but the way that this site scam works is that they have the user log into this fake site, the fake site stores the username and password, and then redirects the user to the real gaiaonline site where they have to log in again. That being said, in order for them to get the other password, they would have to recreate gaiaonline to the extent where the user would want to sell/trade/give away an item.
Also, for that to work, this fake site would have to know what all the user has. In order to do that, these hackers would have to hack the main site. In which case, they could just alter their own inventory in the first place.
That being said, I fail to see your point.

I admit that will probably help with scams like that one, for a little while anyway. Scammers are resourceful and always find a new way to get your items from you. However it won't help with the other scam they could easily do which is sending you a PM asking you for your password (or in this case two passwords). Apparently despite the many warning there are still people that give it out because they are naive or greedy or just dumb (I've seen the just dumb. It's not pretty)

Also this is not the place for you be asking people to Sign. If you don't want this sent to the Petition subforum, I suggest you make the actual petition there and then link that thread to this one.
