Hi everyone,
We've received a lot of complaints from members about game room names that break Gaia's Terms of Service. Although our moderators work hard to weed out game chat names that break the rules, the high volume of game chat rooms created every day makes it very difficult to keep up.
In order to keep Gaia safe and clean, we've decided to change the way game chat rooms are named. You may have noticed that Gaia Rally has a different naming system: instead of allowing users to choose a title for their room, it is generated automatically based on the name of the room's creator (for example, "PorkWizard's minimart" or "AnimeLuvr230846230's carshow" wink . We've decided to make all game chat rooms work like this.
From now on, instead of selecting a name for your room, your room will be named according to your username. We've already made this change to some of our games, but the rest will be changed within a few days.
We realize that this is kind of a bummer, since choosing your own name for a chat room can be a lot of fun, but this change will ease the constant burden on our moderator team and make Gaia Games safer and more appropriate for all of our members.

Yes, they have room names that break ToS...
...and yes people have been reporting like crazy.
But that's what the admins have asked for.
Help moderating things a bit even though people are NOT official moderators.
Hiring more moderators might solve some of this issue, but it doesn't SOLVE it.

How do we find these places now?
Username-named rooms aren't helping this at all.
I have an odd feeling that Gaia users are going to not use games as much.
I know I found a huge group of friends through a Demonic Server room.
Sure, we now have a guild, but why sit in a slow chatting forum when there were chats?
The quiet rooms.
What happens to those who don't want to chat now have to make a room on their own?
A huge influx of 1-user rooms from a bunch of people who just want to be quiet.
This flood the rooms and such, making things run slower and possibly making them faulty.
Literate Rooms
There are rooms that demand people to be literate, no chat speak.
People like to have a place for no chat speak.
How do they get that now?
Ahem, burden on the Gaia Staff?
Gaia was made for us as well as them.
We enjoy these places and this takes away from it all.
It's hard to go through a network of PM's to say:
"Meet me in the room named after me!!!"
This makes things so much harder to meet your friends in places and have a quiet atmosphere with others who like quietness as well.
Sure, I understand where everyone is coming from here, but come on.
Get a few more moderators that come on at certain times and have them weed out as well.
Anyone else against this new change of Gaia?

Alright. So I have been getting a boat load of complaints about these SUGGESTIONS FOR ALTERNATIVE WAYS of doing things. THESE ARE NOT THE ORIGINAL OBJECTIVES. We are suggesting these merely as other options. Read through everything, don't stop on ONE idea and choose not to sign because one ALTERNATIVE doesn't suit you. Discuss it as well.

...TOS-breaking room names are much easier to moderate than rooms under the new naming system, since the mods would have to look at the conversation in the room to see if anything is going on, and all the while, something else could be going on. Mayber there should just be a wordfilter for room names or something like that?

I agree with Neko_Tatsumaru. Maybe make permanent rooms that the names are interest based. "Music" "Anime" "Manga" "TV Shows and Movies" "RolePlaying" and such. It makes it easier to find people who have the same interests as you. But this would be an alternative idea if this one petition does not hit its goal of being able to name the rooms ourselves. I support this as a second alternative only.

...people who have a legitimate use of naming a room will not be able to use room names to meet people with similar interests, where it be fans of Death Note or people who share similar lifestyle choices. Also people just looking for a quite room or a room where people only play puzzles on the highest difficulty, will similarly not be able to use a room name to express these interests....

Personally, I wouldn't mind dropping gold for a naming license of some sort. Gaia could charge gold for them, like for the vending and trading passes. By purchasing the Room Naming Pass, you are agreeing that your room name, and whatever goes on in it, will not violate TOS. If you are found violating TOS, perma-ban.
I don't know how practical this would be....but maybe the person with the Room Naming Pass could also have the ability to kick someone who does violate TOS out. In order to prevent abuse of that privilege, make it so that a report MUST be made against the offending party before being able to kick someone out.

If the mods can't keep up with the amount of user-created rooms; why not put a cap on how many rooms can be made per server? Then, and a few more servers and assign one mod to each. This could be supported via "Mod Helpers or" or something along those lines.
Idea 2: (Wide range of name options)
I do agree with some: this should only be an alternative to naming them ourselves. But, should it come to this: let's make sure they give us as many possible name ideas as they can! Yes, this does mean some cocntroversial ones (such as gay/bi guys or Les/bi girls) But that is some users' lifestyle choices. They should be just as considered as are the "Naruto fans" or the "RP lovers".
Idea 3: (this is gonna piss off some people but: Rewards)
Give us back our naming rooms; instill a 'chat log' ability. Then; offer rewards for users reporting violations of ToS! Yes, you'll get a TON of false reports; but this is where the chat logs come in handy. It will be fairly easy to skim through a chat log and see where the violation is. This is, of course, as last resort type thing; but I can see it working; even if it caues some problems at first.

I don't think many Gaians would mind dealing with a light filter on the chat room names, I for one wouldn't mind a bit. Chat room names help us find people who share a common interest with us which in turn can lead to friendship.. & isn't that what Gaia is for the most part about?

One idea would be to still not be able to name your rooms, but be able to cross off your desired features which would be shown as a small pictogram in the corner of the room. If the user wished to have a "No talking room" He would simply klick that symbol, and all users would see that this users room was meant for people who wanted to play in peace.
Several other such pictograms could be introduced, one for each type of game room, and we would still need no moderation what so ever to clear out rooms names which broke the TOS.

Just recently started using the chatrooms. And as they are now. Whats the point with them ? Sure its easy to invite those you already know but without it.. its imposibel to really make good connections with them. A sort of naming ability IS needed to make the Games practical for the users.
Therefore: Either Add Gaming Area's like "Anime Road" for Rally. Would sort of be like street names. Allow the user to add 1 Keyword for the name. For instance "Naruto" "BleachVSNaruto" "BleachRP" To make it work add a list that isent allowed to be used: Sex,Cyber all those words. And add that any "Hybrid Words like: S3X or for instance S-E-X and all those will result in Lockout from gamerooms. To return a Fee of say 10k Gold. If your cought a second time its permanent lockout. And that means IP Lockout and not just acount. Annoying for schools etc or doors i guess. But it would start a nasty hunt down if things like "Due to Acount Named: XXXXXXX Any Acount known to have used IP XXXX More then 3 times will not have acsess to Games for a Duration of xx More days"
