Hey! Thanks for showing up! May 3, 2004 is the date I'm shown to have joined. I know that's off by a few months, though, since that was after a few other monumental things happened that I was here for. Ah well. No biggie. ^.^

Three years of memories, one post to fit some of them in to share with you all! I will be adding to this list, I can sense it. smile


I remember:

~ I joined because I was sick alot and a friend of mine showed me go-gaia.com, and from that moment on I knew I found something great.

~ I joined in 9th grade with the username of
FallenForesakenAngel.

~ I saw Fairy Wings and wanted them my second day of being a member, but I didn't have enough gold for either a MP or Trading pass.

~ My first quest ever was for the Fairy Cloth, and it took me two months to save up the gold for it, because back when I joined, you WORKED for your gold. Cheating wasn't an option, people weren't ghetto like that back then.

~ I didn't understand what all the gambino.gaiaonline.com and moira.gaiaonline.com was about until the site was completely switched over and I was familiar with the shop keepers.

~ Chicky slippers were about 3 million gold. I wanted them when I saw them about a month after I joined, but I wasn't obsessed with ducks like I am now.

~ I owned my first mini shop ever. I sold bomb images. I made them in Paint, because I didn't have Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop yet. See how horrible they were. >.<

~ I also made a watermarking shop, a banner shop, a cell phone shop, the original Sheebils shop.

~ When I changed over the Sheebils shop to have smaller Sheebils, as well as image maps. It took a very long time for them to evolve from large blobs to cute quest assistants. Without Sheebils, I would probably not have all the gold I have today at all, and have quit long ago.

~ I was just learning PHP, and my first project ever was the GQLs. Yes, you can blame me for all the quest assistant things, since that's where the popularity stemmed from. >.< I was actually VERY surprised no one else had something similar out before me, like my previous ideas. I was proud.

~ The GQLs actually originated from my first large Visual Basic program that I created out of how long it was taking to post in the log I had in my thread for Fairy Wings, the Gaia Quest Helper (second program down). Actually, yes, the Sheebil program, the one above it features how Sheebils looked originally. That was the second Sheebil I ever created. The first one is hanging on my wall in my room. ^.^

~ Complaining when the admins changed over the look of the site for the first time from a forum type of place to something that looks like a small community project that's all blocky. The petitions of many that I signed to have the option to switch layouts never did do anything... I still prefer that layout. ^.^

~ Halloween '04 had zombies and no cure yet. I couldn't post too much because I was sick and not home enough. The next Halloween I couldn't post much because I had a job and school, so I never did become zombafied. sad

~ Sootfaces weren't removable.

~ All events were based around post whoring. It was good that you had to WORK for your items, but it was bad that it caused several spam fests and server crashes.

~ Begging wasn't common.

~ Profiles could be customized with good 'ol CSS and HTML.

~ Rare events weren't so rare. The trunks didn't contain crap items, and ther was only the coveted Pink box. Pink links happened at least once a day, even if you didn't post much.

~ N00bs didn't overrun the site. Neither did ***** or whores.

~ The short obsession with boob signs, before they started being against TOS.

~ The site wasn't overflowing with illiterate 12 year olds. Our 12 year olds weren't too lazy to type out "you" and "are" and use proper punctuation.

~ Store items weren't so low-priced. Donation items were awesomes. I joined around the time the Zen and Zony promos were going...I also remember the release of Pengs and Seals, being about 5k each, but I thought they'd never have any real value. I was wrong. razz

~ The affiliates that you clicked for 50-100 gold a day for them. Do you? surprised

~ People started to demand Gaian weddings. >.>

~ The only games you played on this site were "flame the n00b" and "let's post crappy links/reviews for 50 gold each!"

~ The dating thing was shut down shortly after I joined. I didn't know it existed until there was some questions asked why it didn't work on the map any more.

~ The only way to get around was to navigate the four map images. Fishing didn't exist.

~ Jack gave out nice items. Santa did too. The Easter bunny needs to fork out more slippers. mad

~ Subforums didn't exist and the GD was a decent place to post. You dared NOT to venture into the scary scary CB.

~ Everyone knew abbreviations for things, and had more common sense to read things over before just doing whatever they feel like.

~ Reporting took forever to get results.

~ I kept getting warned for changing the subject in topics enough to get the threads moved to the CB. >.<

~ Crossdressing was common with the opposite sex avatar, because items meant for one gender stayed on that gender.

~ Numbers in names didn't mean that person was a bot. Actually, numbers in names weren't really existent then.

~ The "ignore" feature was new. I still love it. smile

~ I was a member of the LSG...and then I wasn't. Then I was, then I wasn't. I'm still not.

~ Guilds didn't cost anything to create.

~ NPCs weren't dressed/portrayed as slutbags.

~ I made my first friend. They're not my friend anymore. I don't remember their username.

~ You could friend yourself so your name was blue without being made fun of by the system.
