Now onto the topic itself. In this thread, you can talk all Turk related subjects in it. Whether pairings, characters, ideas, games, roles, etc.

This thread is meant to observe, comment, poke fun at, and love the Turks. Just because we're accusing Reno to be a skeleton and Tseng to be a tubby doughnut eater, doesn't mean we don't like them. In fact, it just means we love them.

As the saying goes, "You always hurt the ones you love."

The Rules:
1. Do not post spam. Any sort of post that contains a simple emoticon, or something like this "...." is strictly prohibited. If you do it, I will personally chew you up for being a spammer.

2. Be literate and coherent.

3. If you have nothing important to say, then don't post anything at all. This does not go under the spam rule because posting "OMG RENO PWNS EVERY1" is not spam but it's not constructive.

4. Please no ACTUAL flame wars.

5. This thread contains a lot of Turk images. If you wish to contribute you may, but never direct link an image unless you are the artist. Also if the image is artwork, post the link that directs the user to the artist's page. If the image that you want to show does not apply to the above, you must host the image yourself. Use imageshack.us if you do not wish to host it in your personal account.

6. Not everyone thinks that Reno is the hottest Turk alive. Please respect people's tastes no matter how weird or icky it may seem. You can state your disapproval, but you may not flame and/or start the Fourth Reich because of it.

7. Do not take anything said about your favorite character personally. It is not a personal attack to you so get over it. If you don't like what we say, then please leave.

8. Lolita Doll's Tseng x Reno theme is absolute. She will not convert into TsengxAeris, ElenaxYou, RenoxSapphire Weapon or anything like that just to make you happy.

The poll will be changed every once and a while. Results will be placed whenever a new poll is made.

Introduction to Before Crisis

Before Crisis is set six years before the events of FFVII. You get to play as the Turks (though not the canon ones). Your enemy is AVALANCHE, who has become an immense threat to the ShinRa Company. It is up to you to stop them and foil their plans.

The game contains 25 chapters, and several extras in between and after. It came out in Japan in 2004 and made its official ending this April 2006, with an extra mission released on May 2006.

The Organization:

Official Name: Shinra Manufacturing in Administrative Research
Best known as: The Turks
Head Boss: Heidegger, Head of ShinRa's Public Safety Maintenance
Hierarchy: Below the ShinRa executives, but above SOLDIER.

Observing their official name, I at first thought that it was just some fancy cover-up name. However examining it closer, it is just a euphemism. The official organization name is revealed by Vincent, an ex-Turk.

The Turks are a black ops, secret service type group. They do all the dirty work for the ShinRa Electric Power Company: kidnapping and murder. (Perhaps even arson.) Their cover up job is to allegedly look for candidates for SOLDIER.

The Staff:

Tseng:
Position: Leader/Boss
Weapon: Unknown
Age: ~34-40 years*
Origin: Unknown, speculated to be from Wutai
Bio: In Before Crisis, he is second-in-command of the Turks. Tseng has a very bad temper problem and sort has a problem with controlling his emotions when he does have his "tantrums." He admires Veld immensely, while all the other Turks, including Reno and Rude, fear him. Veld is pretty much Tseng's mentor.

In FFVII, Tseng is very calm, collected, and proper. He incorporates a lot of Veld's principles as the new leader of the Turks. But unlike Veld, he is much more lenient. He no longer loses his temper, unless him b***h slapping Aeris counts as one. He is also the only Turk you do not get to fight.

Tseng has known Aeris since she was a child. Due to a huge mistranslation, it was thought that they knew each since both were children. However confusion came into place with Elmyra's flashback of Tseng visiting her home to retrieve Aeris. The real answer to this is Aeris meant to say: We've known each other since I was little. We do not know why Tseng "forgot" where Aeris lived or failed to capture countless times. Before Crisis may be able to reveal why.

Tseng also makes an appearance in Crisis Core. We do not know for sure what is his role in the game, but what is certain is that he will aid Zack in some missions. Crisis Core Image of Tseng coming soon.

*After nitpicking BC and FFVII details, I was able to estimate Tseng's age.

Reno:
Position: Second-in-command
Weapon: Electromagnetic rod/Night stick
Age: ~23
Origin: Unknown, speculated to be from the Midgar slums
Bio: Reno has a loose and relaxed lifestyle. He is crass, brash, and has no class. (Socially speaking.) This Turk is very loquacious and loud. Despite the mentioned traits, Reno is also very professional at his work and takes it seriously when the time is needed. He is not exactly a "sheep" when given orders. The Wutai side quest and the last time you see the Turks in Midgar reveals that Reno is intelligent when it comes to the choosing battles.

In Before Crisis, Reno is relatively the same as he is in FFVII, but unlike FFVII, he is actually nice and helpful to the incoming Turks.

Reno is the the only Turk you get to fight frequently, and is the only Turk who does not reveal his crush, if he has one.

In FFVII, his looks were very shady and dark, but this all changed in Advent Children when the creators made his look more "bishified." His fanbase grew exponentially, and so did the fanfiction. As of this moment, he is literally the new FFVII pairing whore.

His personality in the Japanese version apparently differs than in the North American version. While he was initially supposed to be a slacker goof, he was changed to be a slacker with an attitude.

Rude:
Position: N/A but is equals with Tseng and Reno
Weapon: Fists
Age: ~late 20's-early 30's
Origin: Unknown, speculation is not at a constant
Bio: Rude is the quiet, mysterious type of guy. He never says anything unless necessary and is always seen wearing sunglasses. However, despite his lack of speaking in the game, a lot of things are revealed to the player:

-Rude and Reno are good friends.
-Rude actually opens up in front of Reno.
-Rude likes to play poker
-Rude has a crush on Tifa.
-He has a lot of piercings in his ears.
-He is the tallest of the Turks
-Before Crisis reveals that Rude did not choose to go bald, rather he suffered from early hair loss.

In Before Crisis, Rude does not socialize much (which isn't a big surprise), but he does help the n00b Turks whenever they need it. He is very friendly towards them. Even in the Before Crisis events, he is still good friends with Reno.

Reno and Rude are infamous for being good friends in and out of work. Before Crisis, FFVII, and Advent Children all supports this and many times their antics prove to be quite humourous, giving Rude a better light other than "that quiet Turk with shades that hangs with Reno." It is very likely that Reno does grate his patience and annoys him, but being the lovable quiet guy that he is, he takes a lot of Reno's unintentional abuse.

Rude also shows more concern and compassion than Reno. When in the Mythril Mines, he threatens AVALANCHE what Reno plans to do, obviously caring and concerned about his friend's condition. In Gongaga, if you have Tifa in your party, Rude will not attack her. During the Wutai sidequest, he is more deterred with Elena's disappearance. What a sweetheart.

Elena:
Position: N00b Turk
Weapon: Gun, but occasionally throws stuff at you.
Age: ~24-26
Origin: Midgar Plate (Confirmed in Before Crisis)
Bio: Elena is the daughter of a teacher at the Shinra Militia Academy. Her older sister is Female Turk A (known as Isabelle in this thread.) In Before Crisis she was on bad terms with Isabelle, and later, though originally wanted to do nothing with them due to her sister, Elena eventually decided to follow her sister's footsteps and joined the Turks.

In FFVII, Elena obtained her position as the newest recruit after Reno sustained injuries battling AVALANCHE in Midgar. Elena is very naive, passionate and very over eager, which causes Reno to treat her the way he does so she can learn. Elena takes her job much more serious than Reno and Rude, but does more mistakes and professional slips than the her two laid back superiors.

Elena is the only female Turk in FFVII, and has a crush on Tseng.

Before Crisis Turks:

Since this won't take too long, I will address the leader of the Turks in the Before Crisis period. He's not a n00b Turk, so that's why he gets his own spot.

User ImageVeld: The newly introduced character is in charge of the Turks, organizing their missions etc. He is a man who is very particular when it comes to mission success and very unforgiving when it comes to failure. He is feared by all of his colleagues. When Heidegger usurps his place as head of the Department of Administrative Research in episode 9 - A Step Further into Uncertainty, he blackmails President Shinra into giving him back his job. Formerly a resident of Kalm Town, he had a daughter and wife that perished when the town was razed due to (his) misheard commands during the Wutai war, as discovered in episode 13 - A Scar that Disrupts the Peace.

idea Because these new characters do not have canon names, active members of this thread voted unanimously what should be their "canon" names in order to avoid confusion. The names in red big letters and bold are their "canon" names and shall be referred to them as such.

Update 6/25/07
: The Turk known as Shuriken Female or Female D, will now be addressed by her canon name: Cissnei. Her name will be highlighted in light blue with a link to her image in Crisis Core.

Update 1/29/08 The Turk known as Martial Arts Female or Female C, will now be addressed by her canon name: Yuuko. This was proven by the Crisis Core Ultimania. Sorry no Crisis Core pics of her.

User ImageUnknown Male A: One of the playable males. An ex-gang leader from Junon, he enjoyed fighting other gangs and stealing bikes, riding around causing havoc. Highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat as well as the ability to ride motorbikes and fixing them. He was rather unfamiliar with failure and with his ever growing confidence, decided to raid to Shin-Ra to steal some bikes, but was arrested by Reno. Realizing his skills could be used to achieve fame and fortune, he decided to offer his services to the Turks. He enjoys using the weapon "Electro Rod", a metallic rod that emits electrical shocks of sorts. He is originally from Midgar, Upper Plate. What a wanker. Gimp

User ImageUnknown Female A: Her father being a teacher at the Shin-Ra Militia Academy, she decided to enrol to the Academy. Graduating with outstanding results, her forte was marksmenship. Her excellent handling of firearms impressed the leader of the Turks, Tseng and he decided to recruit her to the force, with great confidence in her. She is a very serious female who rarely jokes around, and is due to this, is often very strict. Her weaponry is generally guns. She is also Elena's older sister. Isabelle

User ImageUnknown Male B: A former bodyguard of Don Corneo, his specialty is his rapid fire of guns with outstanding accuracy, much like Female A. Spending most of his time in the slums, he became fed up with the politics that had over-run the underworld society and he was offered a role in the Turks. He took up the role, knowing that it would put his skills to the test. His ruthless and "undergound" style of achieving his missions often resulted in him failing. His weaponry is mainly firearms. Ricky

User ImageUnknown Female B: A female hunter from Mideel who often did things in a flashy manner. Always dressed as a person who came from a wealthy family, she had familiarized herself with the art of hunting ever since she was a mere child, specifically handling a shotgun. With a personality that liked to show off, she always wanted to better herself by accepting almost any job and when she was offered a place in the Turks, she immediately accepted. Her weaponery is a range of shotguns. Rachel

User ImageUnknown Male C: He is an ex-detective from Costa del Sol, where he solved some rather complicated cases. A passionate, hot blooded and courageous man, he puts his all into everything he does ? a trait that carries through to his personal as well as professional life. His tendency to rely on his emotions eventually got the better of him. He got himself into trouble, presumably in the course of his work and, finding no way out, took the job offered to him by the Turks who had been recruiting him for some time. He uses his powerful fists as a weapon to punch enemies. Joaquin

User ImageYuuko: A mercenary recruited into the Turks when Veld decides that they are lacking the required manpower to deal with AVALANCHE. As a mercenary, she has seen a lot of battle, and is certainly used to taking orders, so her adjustment into the Turks is easier than it has been for some. A thoroughly businesslike woman on a mission, she gets her work done with a minimum of fuss. She is level headed, alert and perceptive, and is able to assess a situation and take the most prudent course of action. She is a skilled martial artist who uses a style which involves a lot of jumping and kicking style. Her home town is Icicle.

User ImageUnknown Male D: Fencer who was born in Gongaga and has a soft spot for beauty. He does not tend to stay long in any one place. His hometown fears him for his power; It's said that he killed an entire group to rescue a friend of his and as a result was imprisoned. Under the condition he would join the Turks, however, he was bailed. He joins the player in episode 18, A Cry that Rings Throughout the World. Jin

User ImageCissnei: Girl who uses a throwing star and whose birthplace is not known. She has a mothering side and tends to look after her colleagues. She was recruited with intent for her to become a Turk while still in an orphanage. She was brought up under their harsh training techniques from a very young age; in the history of the Turks, she is the youngest member to join. She joins the player in episode 18, A Cry that Rings Throughout the World. Shisune makes an appearance in Crisis Core. So far her role in unknown.

His fame attracts a great deal of attention, those he is intensely private in both his official and personal life. AVALANCHE

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. This guy is the "smarty pants" behind AVALANCHE. Fuhito excels in creating battle plans. Highly knowledgeable in not just matters of science, but also in terms of tactical warfare. He is helpful with conceiving tactical solutions and providing support from a strategic vantage. Which doesn't make sense, but okay whatever you say Fuhito. This guy is batshit insane. Hell you'd think he was Hojo's b*****d son, but he isn't and he totally lacks Hojo's sex appeal anyway. Fuhito creates the genetically enhanced AVALANCHE force known as "the Ravens," who serve as his personal attack squad, and he is shown to have no tolerance for failure, casually killing one of his subordinates for being beaten by the Turks. He is also shown to have no patience with Sears.

Others

Tifa: A strong and skilled young girl who lives in Nibelheim, she and Cloud grew up next door to one another. She was taught martial arts by a martial arts expert named Zangan and became a tour guide for visitors who came to Nibelheim and intended to go rock climbing in the mountains that loom over the town. She appears only in Episode 12.

Yuffie: A female ninja from Wutai, and the daughter of its leader, Godo. She hates AVALANCHE, but hates the Shinra Company even more, blaming them for the decay of her people's country. She only appears in Episode 14.

Aeris: The last of the Cetra, who were also known as "the Ancients." She is the daughter of Professor Gast and the last full-blooded Cetra, Ifalna. While Aerith was only 20 days old, Professor Hojo had Gast shot and killed, and Aerith and her mother apprehended. Seven years later, the two escaped from the Shinra headquarters in Midgar, but Ifalna — exhausted and wounded — soon died. Before she died, however, she entrusted Aerith to a widow named "Elmyra Gainsborough," who then raised Aerith as her own daughter. In the time since, the Turks have been assigned to keep a lookout for her, and have tried to persuade her to return to the Shinra headquarters many times. Rather than trying to kidnap her directly, they hope that she can be persuaded to return willingly. She appears in Episodes 12 and 24.

Vincent: A former Turk, and old colleague of Veld, Vincent has a small role in Before Crisis, appearing briefly in a late episode of the story. Bring on the Veld/Vincent yaoi fanfiction ladies.

Barret: A resident of the town of Corel and an advocate of the use of Mako Energy, he appears in Episode 16.

Red XIII/Nanaki: A lion-like creature that lives in Cosmo Canyon along with his mother and Bugenhagen, he appears in Episode 18.

Shalua : She appears in Episode 21, and is seeking to recover her younger sister who was taken by Shinra years earlier, as they wished for her to become a member of SOLDIER. She appears with a larger role in Dirge of Cerberus, as a scientist for Reeve's WRO. This is before she lots several body parts making her less guro and a little bit more attractive.

Elena: n Final Fantasy VII, Elena is the newest member of the Turks, but in Before Crisis, she appears as a high school student wearing a typical Japanese school girl uniform. She is Isabelle/Female Turk A's younger sister, but despises her and the Turks, because her sister has outdone her, which really is a stupid reason. Elena please get over it or find a better excuse to hate your sister. It only makes you look more annoying. She appears in episode 22 as a civilian.

question Turk FAQ: question

-What are those weird red marks under his eyes?

Reno has these marks since Before Crisis. They are bright red and continue to stay bright red until Advent Children.

Scars are red in the beginning weeks of healing. After healing is completed, they begin to fade slowly, but surely, back to the original color of the skin or just a lighter pigment of it. Because they've remained bright red for eight years, an impossible feat for any scar, they are tattoos. Only tattoos can stay the same color for such a long time. -Lolita Doll

-Are the Turks good or bad?

Obviously the Turks are not evil people. They just so happen to work for a de facto company with evil intentions. Like any professional, they do what they are ordered to do: it's their job.

I'm quite sure that Reno and Tseng did not want to drop the plate on Sector 7. I mean they're human too. But because they have a high ranking job in the ShinRa hierarchy, probably get paid lots and lots of money, fringe benefits, and possibly a risk against their lives if they quit the Turks or do not comply with orders.

The Turks know way too much dirty secrets for ShiRa to just let them go. If they have a "pink slip" that just means they're probably going to die. -Lolita Doll

-How do you pronounce their names?

Reno: Reh-no and Ree-no (English version)
Rude: Rood
Tseng: Sung
Elena: Eh-lay-na
Vincent Valentine: Vin-sunt Val-uhn-tine
Veld: Vehld

You can still pronounce their names the way you want to. This is just how it's "supposed to be" said. -The "How do you pronounce..." Thread

-What color are their eyes? I keep hearing different colors everywhere!

Reno's eyes are blue.
Tseng has dark brown
Rude's are revealed to be a light brown in AC.
Elena has honey colored eyes.

-Does Rude ever take off his glasses?

Rude has taken off his glasses in Advent Children.

-Does Rufus Shinra count as a Turk?

No. Rufus Shinra is not part of the Turks branch. He pretty much owns the Turks, and their boss Heidegger, but that does not make him one. -Lolita Doll

-Theres an anime based on the Turks isn't there?

It's called The Last Order, and it is a 25 minute show that's about the Nibelheim incident through Zack and the Turks' point of view. -Lolita Doll

-Vincent used to be a Turk. Why isn't he credited in this thread?

If we put Vincent in the list, there will be a flood of fangirls coming in this thread who will vote for him in the poll and compete with Reno... (who has a -54% assigned to him already). -Selphie

Vincent already has his own thread, aka The Official DoC Thread. The guy gets his own damn game, and adding him here will make him hog all the glory, especially since Before Crisis is divided into all the Turks, not just on one or two. Plus Lolita is lazy. Researching and posting Vincent's information on Turks Info Post will only take up too much unnecessary room. You can talk about Vincent, but he must not take over the thread. -Lolita Doll
