World
The XIII world is split into two parts: Cocoon and Pulse.
> Cocoon is a space/sky colony that houses a few million people.
- Cocoon was created by the Crystal as a safe environment for humans.
- The Crystal of Cocoon has the ability to create living creatures and mechanical tools in order to aid its inhabitants.
- Cocoon is under rule by the the "holy" government.
> Pulse is everything outside of it.
- For the people of Cocoon, Pulse is a frightening place. Those who come into contact with it are believed to be elements of a plot to invade Cocoon and are banished from the protections of the Cocoon realm by the "holy" government and its army.
- The relationship between Cocoon and Pulse can be thought of as this, according to director Motome Toriyama. First, there was Pulse, a dangerous world where people reside under the fear of monster attack. Cocoon was made when the crystals considered what would be an appropriate living space for people forced to reside in the world of Pulse.
- The original E3 trailer depicted a group of people who seemed to be confined on a train. These people had come into contact with Pulse and were being quarantined.
- Toriyama hinted at the use of vehicles may be used in FF13, and that they may make use of the motion detection feature of the PS3's controller.
- Apparently FF13 will make some big changes to the RPG genre, such as progression between towns, communication with NPCs, and transitions to battles.
Characters
Lightning > The Main Character. Blonde female with a gun/sword type weapon.
-Lightning is not her true name, but rather a code name, or a name she calls herself.
-The two yellow strips on her left shoulder express a rank and a social status.
> Lightning is a battle expert with mastery of gun, sword, hand-to-hand, and magic based combat. She knows little about herself, she doesn’t even know her real name. What is known about Lightning’s past is that she used to be a high ranking official in an organization of some kind. Lightning has been chosen to bring an end to a world, which is feared by all, known as Pulse. She is now an enemy to all of man kind. She is seen in the E3 2006 trailer fighting off countless amounts of enemies, using a weapon that can transform from a sword to a gun and back again.
> One of her abilities is being able to control gravity which is one of the main reasons why her fighting includes so many flips in mid air. She can control it by using the buttons on her finger and thumb. When she clicks them together she can perform miraculous moves in the air. You can recognise this happening in the trailer when she's about to be pounced on by three enemies and a massive ring of light comes out of her and flips to evade them and use a special attack against a soldier.
Unknown > A blonde guy that wears a bandana, who rides a motorcycle.
-This character is thus far a mystery. First debut at Jump Festa this new character sports a white trenchcoat somewhat reminiscent of Seifer from FF VIII. This could potentially prove to be the actual main character or 'hero' of the game, rather than 'Lightning'.
In the trailer shown at Jump Festa, this character has been seen coming to help Lightning on a motorbike when she’s surrounded by government troops. The bike that he rides is a transformed version of the summon Shiva.
Battle System
> From one screenshot it appears to have a similar battle system to Kindom hearts and maybe Final Fantasy XII.
From what I can see you have an ATB gauge, and different abilities cost ATB points. Using abilities lowers your ATB bar which I assume gradually fills up. (Unconfirmed)
> Also the little gauge at the top right seems to have something to do with when the character gets that blueish glow on her body. Looking at the corresponding screenshot, there's the number '77' on the gauge. Perhaps it's a countdown as to how long this "mode" lasts, or a counter as to when it can be activated. (Confirmed)
Update: It appears this gauge is known as 'Overclock' and acts in a similar way to 'bullet time' from the Matrix series, increasing the protagonists speed while keeping it in relative time to her, so in effect everything else slows down.
> Further inspection leads us to believe that there is some form of combo system. Seperate to the menu in the bottom-left there are skills shown across the bottom in a seperate bar, they appear to grey out as they're used, and so it would make sense that it's displaying the order in which the moves have been used.
This would also fit pretty well with the ATB gauge mentioned above. (Unconfirmed)
> Party battles will be existent in FF13. (Confirmed)
> Like previous Final Fantasies, Final Fantasy 13 will also have Summons. It’s been said that the summons have changed greatly. So far, one summon has been revealed.
Shiva will take the form of a sister pair. Both sisters are made up of bike parts and can transform into a bike. It may be possible that this bike can used to ride on both in battle and outside of battle as transportation. Shiva will be able to support more than one magic element.
(The bike that the blond male character rides in the Jump Festa trailer is actually the transformed version of Shiva.)

World
-A long cold war has been taking place, revolving around crystals. In the Jump Festa trailer, while the male protagonist is siting in the back seat of a car, he’s listening to a news broadcast on the radio. It’s announced over the radio how two countries have come to a treaty about peaceful use of crystals.
-There is a Kingdom where the last Crystal in the world is held. This Kingdom is very modern and is so advanced that civilization there is isolated from the Outside World. This City is protected by the Magic Order.
-A group, from the Outside World, has begun to invade the city and this is where the fight for the last crystal begins.
Characters
Unknown > A blue/black haired male appears to be the main character.
-The protagonist of Final Fantasy Versus 13 is the heir to the throne of his country. His royal family’s kingdom has protected the family crystals for generations. His country, which has recently come under attack, has the last crystal in the world.
-Although he wears normal, modern day clothing, he works to protect the family crystals from creatures that come from another world.
Battle System
- Not much is known about the Final Fantasy Versus XIII battle system. However The game will be an action RPG, and it will most likely be a similar style to the Kingdom Hearts Series since it is made by the same team.
- There will be familliar FF weapons used in the game, such as classic Swords and Modern Guns. From the screens shown from the E3 2006 trailer, you can see that there is going to be magic used, since the main character appears to be levetating many swords in the air.
> During battle the main character’s appearance will change. When in battle his eyes will turn red. It’s possible that his eyes will change to other colours as well, such as green. When he quickly moves from one place to another (possibly warping) his hair flashes white.
- Weapons will have different ways of attacking enemies. Some of the weapons will even be used as shields. Some kind of customization elements can also be made to the weapons. As the game progresses the main character will have more and more weapons available to him.
- One of the abilities that the Main Character can use is he can warp to wherever his weapons are thrown.

Rumors
1: Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII - [Title]
According to a french FF site this is a fourth installment.
Most likely a movie, manga or anime.
However because it was not mentioned at E3 and it has no logo, but SE did say there would be more.
Likelyhood: Confirmed
The title is officially registered by Square.
http://www.ff13-europe.com/haeresis/trademark
2: Lightning
The female character's name is rumored to be Lightning; several screenshots of the battle screen display the name Lightning next to the ATB meter. This word could also refer to a spell (though this is unlikely, since a spell is listed to the left called "Thunder" wink , a Limit Break, or possibly a special sort of attack unique to the game. A point against these arguments is that "Lightning" appears in a consistent spot on the screen even as the character performs several different attacks. And if it is a name, it does fit with the names of other Final Fantasy heroes, who are often named after elements or natural phenomenon (for example, Cloud, Squall, and Tidus).
However, further inspection leads us to believe it could be an element imbued/junctioned to her weapon.
Likelyhood: High
The new, unreleased trailer apparently states her name as Lightning. This still may not be her official name, but it is at least a code-name.
3: Six or more titles
Magazine scans have shown that there could be six or more XIII titles.
We know that they have plans for more titles and Haeresis is confirmed, six is very likely.
Likelyhood: Mid
4: Storm
The guy from VersusXIII may be called 'Storm', to fit with the 'weather' theme.
Likelyhood: Unknown
