Inez has arrived! Congratulations Azruael!

They say that souls never really die and that life goes on after death in one form or another. Nearly every religion ever conceived by humans deals with our inner essences continuing on long after our body has returned to the earth. But what humankind can never agree on is: what happens to this essence when the body ceases to be? Does it awaken in a paradise and cluster with countless others around a supreme deity? Or does it continue to move through Life, assuming different forms and seeking perfection? Might it remain in the realm of the living, wafting invisible on unseen breezes and occasionally wreaking havoc as a "ghost?" There are a few beings in this world who know the partial truth. Though they do not know what happens to the souls of the wicked, they can tell you what becomes of the sweet, the calm, the caring, and loving. They know because it happened to them.
They will tell you of the chill of death, of the mist that will overcome the senses and the grim realization of finality...
They will tell you of seeing the world in glowing red, as though through closed eyelids that face the sun...
They will speak of the safety they felt...
Then they will speak of friendly discomfort, like a favorite sweater that has grown a little too tight.
They will tell you of a tiny crack in the red vision, and a wild excitement.
Each one will compare it to something different--a crisp autumn morning, a roaring and pleasant fire, a freshly mown lawn, the intoxicating scent of flowers or coffee or rain or life itself--but all agree; it brought back the very best memories of the life they held before the "change".
They do not call their transition from one body to the next "death." They know that the "death" all humankind fears is not this. For this life is as good as--no, better than--their last. And they will tell this truth to anyone who asks. Anyone who can find them to ask. Anyone who truly cares. They are living their new lives on gossamer wings. They have never been happier.
So they say.
