Hair: mid-length dark brown curly hair caught back with a gold hair pin of a sparrow in flight, always with several strands escaping
Other Features: hands are marked with small scars from her work
Clothes: soft & silky tunics in muted blues or purples or grays or greens, sometimes low-necked and/or slightly decorated, tightly belted over dark pants and soft black leather boots
Accessories: on the belt is a wide dark leather pouch, a small tan bag, and a small dagger
Jewelry: a large twisted silver and green hoop earring in her right ear, a gold ring on her right middle finger, a silver ring on her left middle finger, a dangling silver chain necklace with lots of oddly shaped silver charms

Other Features: long eloquent fingers, often in motion; very expressive in posture, prone to draping himself over a chair and not just sitting

(1) paint-spattered and shirtless, with hair tied back with a paint-rag, casual pants, soft boots
(2) dark red silk brocade robe
(3) loose shirt, elegant vest, slim-fitted pants, in deep blues, purples, reds and sometimes dark grey, decorated with occasional bits of glittery gems or jewelry
Accessories: to go with clothes:
(1) paintbrush, glass of wine
(2) glass of wine
(3) a quiver-like bag filled with various art supplies and papers, a rapier with the hilt made of rose ivory in the shape of two drow women embracing; sometimes a paper parasol (like current Chinese ones) with an erotic painting on the surface if opened; and the ubiquitous glass of wine

Build: as drow slim and 5'1", as rakshasa heavily muscled and height varies from 7' to 9'
Eyes: as drow grey-blue; as rakshasa brilliant emerald green
Hair: as drow silver-white, short & cropped; as rakshasa orange tiger fur with black stripes
Other Features: as rakshasa, a scar barely noticeable across one eye and barely visible under his neck is a blue tattoo of a stylized winged serpent
Clothes: a high-collared black sleeveless shirt with ornate gold & diamond bucklet at the neck but also laced up the left side with black & silver cording, over this a longer sleeveless vest either worn open or buckled up the front, embroidered with pastel gray vines & black/silver flowers; wide-legged pants with a flowering vine embroidered down to right knee, the left leg embroidered with a couatl in gold from knee to hem; laced sandals, occasionally a fringe-trimmed cape with a large embroidered couatl (winged serpent) on the back
Jewelry: piercings in drow form: five silver studs in a line along left lower lip, two rows of different sized hoops along both ears, the last hoops on the right ear connect with a small silver chain to the hoop placed in his eye brow, and from this chain hangs a second chain that dangles a small black fang; a row of piercings as seven small luminous blue glass rods up each arm; a ring with circle design of black onyx with a deep purple ring around the black
Profession: a mage of great skill, and a plotter to bring the downfall of kingdoms
Mood: an observer, controlling, manipulative, jaded, sensual, humorous, able to seem friendly, generous, & forgiving; sometimes petulant

Rainsong:

Age: early 20's
Build: small, slender, not much more than 5'
Eyes: large and golden, sometimes sparks of emotion
Hair: black straight hair nearly as long as she is, usually carefully tied into a loop with a dark blue ribbon
Other Features: prim but delicate mouth, expressive eyebrows
Clothes: kimono-like, long layered robes, with deep sleeves and delicate patterns in silver, lavender, rose, and white, with touches of dark blue; wide belt made from a wrapping of indigo cloth with many pockets
Accessories: a pure white shawl around her shoulders, often half-covering her head like a hood
Profession: priestess of the Dawn (the rising sun), sworn foe of undead and village healer; the symbol of her order is a red folding fan; she's also known to make origami birds to carry good-luck wishes for people to the sungod
Mood: pensive, tranquil, serene, dedicated, sometimes flashes of laughter

Pavisa Madi

Race/Gender: fair-skinned human female
Age: 20-something
Build: very curvy, about 5'6"
Eyes: clear blue with laughter in them
Hair: very curly reddish gold hair to mid-back
Other Features: no freckles despite the skin/hair color! moves like a dancer
Clothes: gypsy-style white gathered peasant blouse off the shoulders, red bodice/stomacher laced up the front with or without shoulder straps, full flaring yellow skirt with red trim border of branching lines (the symbol of Syrul is a forked red tongue, and the pattern is based on that), golden brown sandals
Accessories: a pack of picture-faced fortune-telling cards, like Tarot
Jewelry: dangling jangling earrings and lots of metal bracelets
Profession: a gypsy fortune teller on the surface, actually a priestess of Syrul (goddess of lies and deceits) to lure people into trusting her advice and then destroying their lives by it
Mood: deceptively friendly and sympathetic, joyful, lighthearted, playful

Chhayarani:



Race/Gender: human female, golden tanned skin
Age: 22
Build: slim but with strong muscle to her, 5' 8" tall
Eyes: golden yellow, hawk-like, slightly slanted
Hair: smokey not quite black, very full, mostly straight, waist-length or slightly below
Other Features: high cheekbones, generously full lips often pursed
Clothes: dark colored high-collared tunic, dark leather or cloth pants, knee-length leather boots, long dark leather gloves to almost elbow length and a bit over-sized looking (actual: elven mithral chainmail with a glamer magic on it to seem like clothes)
Accessories: heavy leather belt with two pouches, a large hooked dagger (jambiya) and a slightly curved longsword
Jewelry: none
Profession: personal bodyguard, a duskblade who had skills with magic as well as her weapons
Mood: quietly proud, reserved but with a good sense of humor, hidden uncertainty with her life but a strong belief in fate

Egon:

Race/Gender: medium-tan-skinned human male
Age: 25
Build: well muscled, tall at 6' 1"
Eyes: left eye is gray, right eye is green
Hair: dark blond, a few inches long and shaggy as if cropped without care then left to grow for a few months
Clothes: well-used leather armor with bronze studs (this or this or something similar, but no helmet) over utilitarian russet cloth tunic and dark brown trousers tucked into heavy leather boots; leather belt with a pouch, an unsheathed dagger of elaborate decoration, and a longsword; note: he does NOT have to be drawn in armor, regular clothes are fine
Accessories: a leather pack with a light crossbow attached to it; a large two-handed greatsword (a claymore) is slung across his back in a jury-rigged sheath that originally held a slightly smaller sword
Jewelry: none
Profession: mercenary, a hexblade that can utter magic curses as well as fight
Mood: casually good-humored, cynical, very much "what's in it for me" but not with malice or overt greed, someone who's had to make his own way in life and expects others to do the same

"Best Drow"? What the heck does that mean?

Drow are a race of elves who were exiled to live underground because of the evil goddess they followed and supported. Their skin has become black as obsidian, their hair white or silver, their eyes usually glow red but can be other pale shades of gray or yellow or blue. They are not just dark-skinned humans with slightly pointy ears. They are short (just over 5' at the most), slender & wiry, with strongly angular elven facial features: tilted eyes and eyebrows and cheekbones and very chiseled nose. The ears have elongated thin points that stick up through their hair but lie along the skull and don't go out sideways. They are almost entirely evil, with only a very rare few escaping their innate nature and abusive upbringing. (All this is, of course, my preferred version of drow! But then again, it's my contest. wink )

I want to do a scene! Um... what's a good background?

Saera's workshop (outside, floorplan), Ool's studio (more polished but might have anything in it), Chel's compound of buildings in an underground cavern, Rezna's cavern with a glowing spring-fed pool of healing. For more general use, a tavern, a medieval/Renaissance town plaza or street, a hillside, the banks of a river, a garden. If you'd like more info on any character's artworks or other items, let me know.

If I want to sketch a couple picture, which two are the best to do?

Romantic couples would be Saera & Ool, Saera & Rakshasa, or Chelyrra & Rezna. Best-friends would be Saera & Rainsong. Group picture of my personal chars would be Saera, Chelyrra, Pavisa, Chhayarani, and Egon. But since all the chars hang out at the same tavern setting in the on-line RP, you could theoretically have any two together at all. Saera almost got killed by Rezna, for instance, when he was feeling nasty and throwing daggers around. ^_^

Are we required to draw the full body (or bodies) of the character(s)? Or, for example, can we draw from waist up?

You can draw as much or as little as you like, from just a head-shot to full body with background 3nodding

I read the description of Egon. Oooookay... now what does it mean?

"mercenary" : fighter who works on a temporary basis for whoever hires him instead of for a cause or as a permanent member of a company

"hexblade" : D&D character class that's someone who has strong fighting skills and minor magic skills but the type of magic is more towards curses and combat (he's not going to be able to heal your wounds or mend your broken vase); this is a class that tends towards evil, though Egon isn't (he's true neutral), but that's what might come across to others who don't know him

"duskblade" : Chhayarani is this class; it's a lot like hexblade in that it's fighting skills and a bit of combat magic, but no curses and it was originally taught among the elves, so no evil implications

You don't say specifically: can an artist enter more than one entry?

Oh, please do! Yes, an artist can enter more than once and even win multiple prizes. Each entry can only win one prize, but the artist could win multiple prizes if more than one of his/her entries wins.

Is it okay to collaborate with someone else on a picture and submit it together?

Sure! If the entry wins, though, it's up to you two (or three or however many people are involved ^_^) to figure out how to split the prize.

How much... er "artistic freedom" is allowed with the clothing? Would you rather we be more "inventive" or stick to your descriptions as close as possible?

It's a toss up? I love artistic innovations more than pics that just seem to copy the reference pics, however I've also tried to give a strong sense of the char's style (and I can give more if asked!). Anything too much different would affect the "best whatever" category. But if the picture is otherwise great then it shouldn't affect any other prize category. If you're unsure what I will think, you're always welcome to run the concept by me in a PM first. You will not go wrong by keeping Saera fairly conservative, Rainsong in Asian styles, Chelyrra and Pavisa sexy, and Chhaya restrained and elegant.
