What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight, what counts is the size of the fight in the dog.

Once upon a time in New York City...
There was a time when things were simple, when a dog on his own was common and he looked out for himself and nobody else. Other dogs would pass by, unnoticed. But then things changed. The humans started throwing us out on our own more and more, and we began to breed. The young dogs lived and the older ones were caught or killed, or died from starvation. Prime food sources became the cause of great competition, and soon dogs grouped up to defend certain territory and fight off lone strays. Eventually these close-knit groups became known as gangs, keeping their own specific area of the city free of intruders and acting better than the loners.

The first of these gangs to form was called the Red Fangs, led by a vicious, merciless dog who had escaped from an underground fighting ring and was trained to kill. This dog went by the name of Brute. His small gang of cruel, arrogant dogs captured a great deal of land and ruled the streets of New York for a few years, dispelling any intruders without mercy or compassion.

Soon afterwards the surviving victims of Red Fang attacks allied with one another. The head of this gang was a part-wolf mutt, and so he and his followers were soon nicknamed The Howlers. Furious at their treatment at the hands of man and at the jaws of their fellow canines, The Howlers fought back energetically and managed to re-take a lot of Red Fang territory. A brutal war between the two groups broke out when Edgar, leader of The Howling, and Brute, leader of the Red Fangs, got together for a peaceful discussion. The Fangs had laid an ambush, and the three representatives of their rival gang were slaughtered. Only Edgar, still young and fleet of paw, was able to escape with his life.

While all this went on, some of the younger dogs in the gangs became restless. A tough German shepherd cross by the name of Rocky challenged Brute for leadership, and defeated him. As was custom, the loser of the battle was not spared, and Brute was murdered by his own second in command. Rocky took over swiftly and exiled several of Brutes supporters, placing his comrade Winder as second-dog and enforcing loyalty on the others who remained. Upon hearing the change of leadership, Edgar quickly invaded with his strongest dogs, planning to overthrow them while they were still disorganized. Rocky tore the part-wolfs throat into shreds, and chased away the other intruders without any help. He had proved himself as a fearless, mighty leader.

Days passed, and no replacement was found for the leader of The Howling. They grew distant and dazed, spreading out across their territory and searching for food alone or in small groups. Eventually the dogs were united in battle against Rocky, who led the Red Fangs against them to try and take over control of Central Park. The fight was vicious and none got out unharmed. Alarmed by the noise, humans called Animal Control and it wasnt long before the vehicle was parked nearby. Caught unawares, Rocky was grabbed around the neck by a catchpole. He managed to wrestle it free of the womans grip, but was unable to remove the tight metal wire from himself. In a matter of days he had been identified and captured, taken to a kennel where they planned to give him away to a family. Unfortunately, he got into a fight with a pit bull in an exercise run and the two were severely wounded. Both dogs, considered a danger to society, were put down.

Both the gangs slowly fell apart, but remained in their section of the city. Years passed and it was in these days of which I speak that the Red Fangs and The Howlers regained a sense of self and a sense of unity. These are the days of the Mainstreet Mongrels.

OOC Information

What is this shop?
Mainstreet Mongrels is a roleplay-intensive shop. If you don't roleplay, your dog won't grow. As a bonus for dedication to the roleplay, each dog has completely unique lineart- if, for example, he or she gets bitten on the nose in a fight, they will have a scar there when they grow.

As your dog grows up, he or she will develop a personality, get into fights, make friends, make enemies, and encounter various humans. Each dog will have their own personal piece of territory, which could be anything from an old couch in a junkyard to a section of central park. Wherever your dog lives, this will act as their storage place for food and other belongings, and will be your OOC journal for recording your roleplay.

Each dog will belong to one of two gangs. These 'gangs' hate each other with a passion, and usually stay in their own territory. They will viciously attack outsiders who intrude without a good reason. The groups have leaders, second-dogs, and a definate hierarchy.

At the moment there are none, but the 'attitude' your roleplay your dog with and how much respect they earn from their fellow canines (even at a young age) will determine their rank within the group. ICly, there aren't leaders at the moment and it's something akin to anarchy- eventually some character will have to take over IC as leader. They can always be displaced, though, as long as it happens in character.

Your dogs will need to scrounge for food, and avoid Animal Control- this is where I come in. I will play the Animal Control and any other humans who need to interact with your character, as well as reveal to you possible food sources. Fluffy cannot miraculously stumble upon a box of steaks that fell out of a truck. It just doesn't work like that.

Your dog will spend a minimum of one month as a pup, a minimum of two months as an adolescent, and a minimum of four months as an adult. After your dog has reached adult, additional stages may be procured through special events or commited roleplay. They never really stop growing.

Also, all IC roleplay will take place in the guild, not in the thread.

Rules
You'd better read these, buddy.
These pets are roleplay required!

1. Obviously, no roleplay that goes beyond PG13.

2. No sex or heavy petting.

3. Gory, bloody scenes are allowed, but in moderation and with a purpose.

4. Fighting scenes must be conducted under strict rules, and I will interrupt if these rules are broken.

5. Fights take place like this:

Dog A tries to bite Dog B. Dog B responds with whether or not he was hit, and how badly. Dog B may then attempt to strike back. Dog A responds in a similar fashion.

Good: Woof lunges at Doggy and snaps at his shoulder.

Bad: Woof sinks his fangs into Doggy's shoulder and draws blood.

The second example is controlling the other person's character. I will not tolerate powerplay like that.

6. You may not kill each others' characters. Do you know how hard I work on these things?

7. Swearing is fine if it suits the time and the dog's personality. Again, in moderation.

8. No short-hand typing. You, not u, are, not r, be, not b. You get the idea.

9. Please remember to capitalize the first word of any sentence, I, and dogs' names.

10. Narrative style roleplay is preferred to *s and -s.

11. Out of character posts must be in ((double brackets)), but keep OOC to a bare minimum!

12. After you sign up, if you do not post within a week your character will be removed.

13. If your character becomes idle (you don't post) for two weeks, there will be a warning PM and then I may remove your character.

14. Keep your roleplay posts to three lines long, bare minimum, please.

15. As a policy I will not be accepting any wolves, part-wolves, or wolf-like dogs. Part-Huskies are fine- just don't show me a picture of a wolf and tell me that's your dog.

16. No pure-bred dogs. Honestly, when was the last time you saw a pure Sibererian Husky or Dalmation just wandering around a city?

17.What I say goes. Kapish?
