Welcome to my thread! This is really the first quest I've ever gone on - it's not a large one, granted - and I'm hoping to do well. The goal of this quest is to have a cosplay avatar of the character Louis de Pointe du Lac from Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles

So. Yeah. This quest, and its purpose.

Why...

The Quest

I'm really not all that interested in gaia clothing. Every now and again, there might be something that comes out that catches my fancy, but over all, I tend to spend my hard-earned gold in the Breedables forum. That changed when the pirate items were released. Now, pirate clothes are pretty and old fashioned, and everybody loves 'em. But, what I noticed looking through them was that the new clothing update included 3 vests, and gaspshockhorror, a neckruffle! Almost immediatly, I thought of the Vampire Chronicles, of which I am a huge fan.

The Vampire Chronicles

There are a lot of criticisms for Anne Rice's work, some of which I agree with and some of which I don't. In any event, I read Interview with the Vampire about 4 or 5 summers ago, and absolutely fell in love with the series. A lot of that had to do with Louis, but I adore Mrs. Rice's characters. The writing, at least for the first few books, is - although not terribly intellectual or horizon-stretching - quite lovely, as are the characters.

Louis

Ah. *_* Louis. Given that I read Louis' book first, he was one of the first characters I was introduced to. This doesn't always translate out to, you know, love at first glance. For me, it did. It's not this way for everyone, but I think that Louis evokes a mothering instinct in some people. He's just so damn sad, and yet he WANTS to be good, he doesn't like what he's become. You kind of want to cuddle him until all his hurts go away. Of course, the fact that his is absolutely gorgeous - picked by Lestat mostly for his looks and his money - doesn't hurt things at all.

Family: One brother, Paul (died shortly before Louis was turned) a mother and one sister; Immortal "family" was Lestat and Claudia

~Spoilers Ahead~

History: Louis was a young, wealthy plantation owner before Lestat came across him. In the year 1791, a charismatic French vampire by the name of Lestat de Lioncourt took a fancy to Louis' looks and money, and turned the young man into a vampire. The immortal life, especially since it depended on taking human life for survival, never sat well with Louis, and Lestat's widely differing attitude on the subject quickly drove Louis into depression (although he wasn't the liveliest of mortals, either). 3 years later, Louis took his first human victim in as many years, a young girl (only 5 years old) named Claudia. He came close to, but did not actually kill her, and Lestat then gave her immortal life in an attempt to keep Louis from leaving him. They actually spent quite a long time as, as Lestat put it "one happy family", until Claudia grew discontent with being an adult women stuck in the body of a 5 year old. She attempted to kill Lestat - though she failed - by poisioning him and then gashing his throat. She and Louis escaped to Europe, eventually ending up in Paris. It is here that they finally encountered other immortals, at the Theatre des Vampires, led by the vampire Armand. Armand took an interest in Louis, after which Claudia forced Louis to make her a new guardian, Madeline, fearing that Louis would run off with Armand. Lestat, badly wounded by Claudia's attempt on his life, and the fire which broke out when Claudia and Louis fled to Europe, arrived in Paris sometime after. Because of what Lestat told Armand - not actually meaning Claudia harm - the Theatre des Vampires killed both Claudia and Madeline by exposing them to the sun. Armand was indeed the ringleader, although Louis did not know this. In extreme anger, Louis burnt down the Theatre des Vampires, and then took off with Armand for quite a few years, before returning to America, and New Orleans specifically. He met up with Lestat once while he was there, and then lost track of him. He lived for a while in San Francisco, meeting up with Lestat once more just before the Brat's big concert for the first time in many years. Because he was one of the people closest to Lestat, Akasha spared him when she rose, and he was present at the meeting in Sonoma, though he did not take a very active role. Some time after Akasha was destroyed, he returned to New Orleans, living in the rundown shed on the property of an empty mansion. It is here Lestat found him after being contacted by Raglan James, where Louis told him not to take the chance, and then met him again when Lestat was mortal and Raglan had stolen his body. He refused to turn Lestat into a vampire again. At the end of The Tale of the Body Theif, Lestat had refurbished the flat on Rue Royale where he, Louis and Claudia once lived, after the Brat had turned David Talbot into a vampire. The three of them went off to Rio together. In Merrick, Louis fell in love with a former charge of David's, while Lestat was in a coma on the floor of a chapel, after his encounter with Memnoch. There had been rumors of Claudia's ghost haunting the Rue Royale flat, and Louis attempted to convince Merrick to contact Claudia's ghost. Though at the end of the book, they did manage to come into contact with her, she was a vengeful spirit, and actually stabbed Louis and told him how she hated him. Afterwards, Louis turned Merrick into a vampire, and promplty attempted to go into the sun, almost succeding, except that Lestat miraculously woke from his coma-like state, just barely managing to revive Louis with David and Merrick's help. He became powerful like he never had been in all his years as a vampire, because he had quite a great deal of Lestat's - much more powerful - blood in him.

(Please do tell me if I got something wrong. This is off the top of my head, and a summery to the end of Merrick. He does not show up in either The Vampire Armand or Blood and Gold, after which I decided to stop reading because the quality of the books take a sharp nosedive.)

So, I stated that I mostly spend my time in the Breedables forum. One possibility for pets that come out of there are also cosplays. I have two Louis cosplay pets at this point, and plan on getting a lot more:
