Once upon a time three hearts held three wishes....

Each of the wishes were granted, but not in the way that their wisher had craved.
I will follow the tracks to save others.
Now we bystanders are looking at the results, lacking any window to the past save a discarded Junction and tiny scraps of paper.
I wonder where these tracks will lead me....
But there are Passengers still riding the familiar route to our Junction and, up ahead, more tracks are laid, waiting to be followed.
Passengers who become residents perhaps shall become Passengers once more?

After tonight the Penny on the Tracks forum will be locked so that the judges can go about the nigh impossible task of judging.

9.27.06::The Concept contest signups will be ending in a few days, on September 30th at Midnight EST, so anyone who's been waiting to sign up, do it now! The thread with info about the wonderful contest is here in the loverly guild.

A key thing to note:
It is only the sign ups for the concept contest which will be ending on the 30th. After that Hikari and Chao will get ready to give out the first task, which will probably last for... a week at least from whenever we get it out to the participants.

It should be noted that the concept threads don't have to be perfect by the end of the sign ups, they don't even have to be complete. All participants will be free [and encouraged!] to edit their page as things come up (because, heaven, I know I tend to not really know my characters until I start to write/roleplay with them u.u) also critiquing will continue to be encouraged!! Judging of the concepts, and, as such, the time when we'll probably be locking the concept threads for a bit, won't be happening for a looong while yet and we'll be sure to let you all know about that in advance heart

It all started with a chance meeting in a supermarket.

Hikari Corrigan and Chao Luaier hadn't seen each other in what, weeks? Months? Neither had cared to pin down the exact amount of time, but needless to say, the reunion had called for a celebration.

It had started with dinner and ended, somehow, with the curious question of "what exactly is Gaia's age limit for alcohol?" Of course, they had to discover it for themselves and moved from the respectable restaurant to a not so respectable pub.

The age limit had proven to be astoundingly low.

Hours later, with their satchels significantly lighter and their mouths wide open they sauntered down the streets of Durem, singing Wicked to the heavens and getting yelled at by the angry Gaians whose sleep they were interrupting.

"Get off the road, ya drunkards!" one particularly angry Gaian had screamed and proceeded to throw several pair of glasses at the duo. With a huff and an upturn of their noses the two had continued their song until one of the more well to do houses of the area had caught their attention. Without any thoughts as to whether it might have had guard dogs or angry occupants waiting just inside its door they had stumbled their way in, giggling when they landed in a heap on the Parisian carpeted floor with a butler staring down at them.

The house had been well upholstered and reeked of expensive perfume and gourmet food, altogether it had seemed as good a place as any to hang out. As they'd later find out the house was an auction hall, still open to those who wished to register for that night's bidding on several once respectably, but currently out of use, properties around Durem.

Somehow or other they got themselves signed up, proceeded to crash the auctioning hall and bid 17,5oo gold on the current property that was up for grabs.

After giggling at the way the other patrons had goggled at their obviously drunken states they quickly escaped, feeling the thrill of making mischief.

But the night had to end at some point. They both suffered heavy hangovers the next day and neither one thought of the auction hall for another two weeks, until the deeds (along with the bill) arrived in the mail.

They worked things out as best they could over the phone and finally agreed to just keep the stupid property and see what it was worth.

And that was how they found themselves on the outskirts of Durem wearing hardhats and carrying flashlights.

"Well, at least it doesn't look like it's about to fall in on itself," Chao stated brightly and Hikari nodded.

"Maybe, but it doesn't exactly look like anyone's been there for a few decades," the other teen commented warily, but they made their way inside all the same.

The first and second floors proved dusty, but ultimately harmless and boring. It was only when Hikari had been peeking in the doors on the first floor and found a downwards leading stairwell that their interest was even marginally peaked.

After finding and flicking a light switch the duo was pleased to find that the lights were in working order and proceeded down the concrete steps. The sight that greeted them at the bottom of the stairwell wasn't what they'd been expecting at all.

"It looks like a train station, an underground one," Chao observed, bent over the edge where the tiled floor dropped away to reveal a set of tracks. She jumped into the gap and trotted alongside the tracks, investigating where the tunnel led.

"I didn't even know Gaia had trains," Hikari murmured, looking at what was once a kiosk and kicking at a bit of dust.

"Well, they had to have something before the transport system was installed," Chao replied, turning around when she reached a blockade of stones in one side of the tunnel.

"No one even uses that anyway," Hikari grumbled, joining her friend on the tracks.

"Well, unless you're dying to start up a train station, no one's going to be using the trains any time soon either," Chao pointed out as they reached a second blocked tunnel. "Must've been some collapse, I hope no one was caught in it."

"Yeah," Hikari hopped up onto the tiled floor then pulled Chao up after her, "so, what're we going to do with it?"

Chao looked around and shrugged, heading towards the door, "I don't know, everything here looks pretty much intact, maybe we could sell-?" she paused as the crackle of paper wrinkling caught her ears. Looking down she barked out a laugh. Two slightly dusty tickets were under her shoe. Picking them up she called Hikari over and presented one to her friend, "well, Kari, shall we take a ride out of-" she squinted, "'Intervalic Underpass Junction'? Wow that's a mouthful."

Hikari laughed and curiously turned over her ticket, "I wonder who these used to belong to," on the back a small hand written message was written, "'I'll come back and save you...I promise.'"

Chao arched an eyebrow and turned her's over, "'find your way Elsewhere'." She read then squinted at the smaller text, "March... hey, Kari, it's today's date."

Hikari waved a hand, "must be from some other year," the last portion of her statement was drowned out by the harsh crackle of breaks being applied and the shrill whistle of a train. Bright light flooded the cavern like junction as a train stopped with a hiss.

Both teens gaped and shuffled backwards, eying the train like it was some sort of monster, which, for all they knew, it very well might be.

"There was a block-" "A BIG blockade!" "Stones! Rocks!" "I saw no flying stones or rocks!" "Neither did I!"

The door slid open.

The teens looked at one another.

"...if we don't look we'll go insane." "If we do look we might be killed. Psychokillers!" "We'll obsess!" "It might not even be solid, if there'd be ghost trains anywhere it'd be Gaia."

They looked around, at the stairs, at the tickets in their hands, at each other then, sighing and grabbing out their heavy flashlights, they approached the train with the utmost caution.

As it turned out there was no psycho killer waiting to murder them, the train was solid and bumped a bit as they hopped through the doors into a well lit compartment. There were no passengers to greet them or explain what was going on.

As Chao tried the door to see if she could get to the conductor's compartment Hikari made her way down the carpeted hall, glancing at her ticket curiously and mindlessly counting the rows.

Eight... nine... ten... eleven.... the teen stopped and stared at the seat mentioned on her ticket. The child curled up against the red cushioned seat blinked his eyes open and looked up at her.

"Oh dear, erm... Chao...?"

"What?! Is it psycho killers?!" the teen yelped and charged down, flashlight swinging in her hand.

"No! Stop it! You'll scare him!" Hikari snapped still staring at the child in the seat as he raised his hands up to her, asking to be picked up.

A few rows down there was a piercing wail, which was quickly joined by the wail of the child in the seat Hikari was staring at.

"Gwah! Arg!" Chao yelped, spinning around.

"Go get the other one," Hikari instructed, quickly scooping up the child in the seat and rocking him against her, "shhh, shhh, it's alright."

Chao bolted down the way, ducking out of Hikari's sight momentarily before standing and bouncing another child in her arms, "shh, I'm sorry little one," her eyes snapped to Hikari, "where are their parents?"

"I don't know, maybe in one of the other compartments?"

There was the gentle hiss of the doors opening and, squinting through the glass, Chao could just make out the doors to the other compartments opening. She looked to Hikari, then to the now sniffling children, "maybe.v Come on, let's check out the other compartments. Maybe there's someone who can explain what's going on."

Nodding Hikari balanced the child against her hip and the duo, now a quartet, hopped back across the gap, but when they turned around, intent on going into the other compartments, the train was gone, leaving no sign that it'd ever been other than the children in their arms and the tickets still clutched in their hands.

~The elusive ticket. The ticket appears to the prospective guardian with nothing but an arrival date, the words 'Intervalic Underpass Junction' accompanied by the address to a semi-quaint currently being renovated building in Durem and a handwritten message on it. They are nearly indestructible things and will boomerang back to the potential guardian no matter what they try to do to get rid of it.

~Well, now that you've gone and done the fool hearty thing of actually going to the adress on your ticket and have witnessed the train's arrival you've found found yourself the guardian of...a Passenger. Oh dear.
(Children passengers are generally 1-5 years of age. Some can talk, walk, etc. Others are no more than toddlers. Children Passengers should not remember their past lives very much.)

There are several ways to become the guardian of a Passenger; Flatsales, Raffles, Contest, Pet Trades, Auctions and Customs. Pets trades and Customs are more fully addressed in the next post.

Flatsale Procedures: Be sure that you've read this entire page and anything extra included on the flatsale thread. Prompts will be posted and then you'll have at least 48 hours to respond to one prompt and Pm your response to to the mule account. Please follow the form provided and provide all the information it asks for.

Prompt: the prompt you're responding to.
Prompt Response: Your response to the prompt goes here. No word limit (just... no novels, please ;; ) and no word minimum. It must be written in formal/narrative style. Thusly, no "-the Passenger laughs and pounces on-" responses. First or third person is accepted.
Name: the name of your Passenger
Guardian: Your screen name and the name of the character that will be the Passenger's guardian.
Gender: male or female
Personality: Either a few words... or you can go crazy. Are they; happy, sad, always pissed off, easily frustrated ect?
Note: What was written on their ticket?
Concept/Past Life: Detailed explanation of the note's meaning and your passenger's past life goes here. Something more biographical and explanatory is favored here.
Three Physical traits: For flatsales you can put three traits here along with skin color, eye color and hair color. So, technicly, you can provide up to six physical traits, but three of them must be hair, eye and skin color. For the other traits you can provide hair style, markings, clothing and all other important details that make this Passenger unique here, just remember, you can only include three.

Your passenger has come down with a bit of a cold. It really is nothing a bit a bowl of chicken noodle soup and some good ol' orange juice cannot fix. Yet, they are convinced they are going to die of this horrible sickness. Are they just being a drama king/queen or did they read something on [insert horrible disease here]? Why are they so dramatic about it? How does the ailment effect them?


Prompt II
It has come to our belief that you passenger has come across a book of ghost stories. Now they won't sleep and refuse to go anywhere remotely freaky. What ghost story are they talking about? Where will they not go and why? Do they share this treasure with friends or keep it to themselves?


Prompt III
There is some special and secluded spot devoted to your Passenger whether it is about the house or outside is up to you. Something happens to this spot where your passenger cannot get to it anymore. What happens and describe why this place is so special.


Auction Procedure: Auctions will always have a minimum bid of 13k with a minimum increasement of 1ooo gold. Auctions will always last at least 7 days.

Auctions are always going to be a full custom, so you will get to decide everything. From the note, to the full appearance, everything.

General Rules
1.) Read the rules and the entire front page. It makes life a lot easier for everyone.
2.) Be nice, we'd like the thread to have a happy, healthy environment. It goes without saying that flaming, harrassing, and/or making a nuisance of yourself is a huge no no.
3.) No stealing of art. Hikari works very, VERY hard for this shop. If you break this rule you will automaticly be blacklisted, banned from the shop and then reported to a mod.
4.) Respect the owners, this is our thread and our rules. We try to be nice people and honestly love constructive feedback, but please don't abuse our kindess.
5.) No mega quotes, meaning more than three (3) large quotes in one post. Exceptions to this rule would be if you were Roleplaying with more than three people are once.
6.) These are RP Intensive pets, so if you just want something to sit in your sig and look pretty then these are not the pets for you. In the future we may have an autobuy price for those who want a Passenger but not the rp requirements, but right now we're really lookingn for people who want to play out the Passenger's lives.
7.) Realize real life takes precedence over Gaia. We understand that this applies to everyone and we won't jump on you and take away your passenger if you go on hiatus. Please realize that we, the owners, also have our real life issues to deal with and cannot be online 24/7.
8.) Do not PM asking when the next flatsale/contest/auction/AB slot opening will be.
9.) Gaia's TOS applies everywhere, here included.
10.) Not so much as a rule as it is a statement but; We love our lurkers! You guys are what makes the shop worth while and eventually there may be events and such for lurkers only, so never be afraid to post and say hello <3
11.) All OOC/informal/general chat, whether or not there's RP going on or not, should be in brackets.

12.)Rules, like most other things, are subject to change and more will be added as necessary.


Sales Rules
1.) Flatsales will cost 13k unless stated otherwise.
2.) Once the question(s) and prompt(s) is/are posted, you will have a set amont of time (at least 24 hours) to respond to one of them by PMing your response to the mule account.
3.) You may not edit your response once you've sent them. UNLESS such things as smart quotes attack you. Gwah, Chao hates those things. But doing so for other reasons will land you in the graylist, and your entry rendered null. Other exceptions can be made depending on the circumstances but please tell one of the shop owners the reason you want to edit your entry before you do so.
4.) Do not discourage, threaten, or make others feel guilty for trying out. The same goes for being rude, mean or bitchy if you lose.
5.) Send all trades to the mule account. Sending trades to the shop owners will be considered a donation.
6.) In a flatsale you cannot write an entry for someone else/get someone else to write your entry. Doing so will result in instant blacklisting.
7.) Use the phrase "Mind the Gap" as the PM title for your entry to let us know you've read the rules ;3

1.) No God-Moding or Godly characters. While your Passenger may have special abilities and powers if you so choose, please bear in mind that they will still have limits and imperfections.
2.) Formal/narrative roleplay only, either 1st or 3rd person perspective is acceptable.
3.) Informal/general chatter must be done in brackets when RP is going on.
4.) Please don't kill Peregrin u.u
5.) As a Guardian, you are required to post at least once a month in your tome. If you have to go on a hiatus, please, please either post or PM us saying so. If you're going to be gone for a long time, assign someone to take care of your Passenger in the meantime.
6.) You don't need a Passenger to RP in the shop, just RP formally as yourself and you'll be fine <3
7.) Non-IUJ pets are welcome in the Station/Shop.
8.) Whether in IC or OOC, please do not ignore newcomers. We were all new once, and while we don't expect you guys to just shower them with love and affection, please don't ignore them altogether as well.

Q.What are the Passengers going to look like?
A.Each Passenger will be based on the concept/past life you've come up with along with three physical traits* that are provided for flatsale Passengers or, if you've gotten a custom, you'll be able to fully dictate the physical appearence.

Q. What are these called? Intervalics? Underpasses?
A. Passengers, actually.

Q. Can we be the guardian to more than one Passenger?
A. Nope, only one passenger per guardian.

Q. What's this about a Past life requirement?
A. Yes, you read right! We are requiring that all Passengers have a past life! The actual nuts and bolts of this life are up to the Guardian to create. Maybe a child was thrust onto the train by a dying mother, or a cat-creature was stuffed into the car for slave shipment, or even an angsty teenager alchemist tried to use the train to run away. The choices are yours, though we do ask that you run it by the Intervalic crew before major plottage and such. And you're going to have to tell us about it on the custom/flatsale form anyway xD

Q. Will the Passenger remember their past life?
A. That's up to the guardian's whim. If you'd like they can never recall it or feel any consequences from it or their past can catch up to them. Please keep in mind that The Naviat does make it so that the newly arrived/Chilren Passengers remember little to none of their past lives but once they grow... well, really, it's up to you.

Q. Can my character have died in their past life?
A. Yes, they could very well have died, it's all up to you. The catch is that afterwards their corpse must have, somehow, made it onto the train.

Q. Where did the name come from?
A. Aha, well... lots of word research x.x

Q. How much will these cost?
A. 13K each for flatsales. Seem expensive? Well, as there will be at least 5 stages, with 4 pieces of unique line art this should seem like a deal.

Q. What about journals?
A. Journals are required.

Q. Are we going to have to rp them all the time?
A. ....not all the time. But at least once a month, unless you go on hiatus or something.

Q. What kind of roleplay?
A. Formal, narrative, descriptive, ect. Just no informal or screenplay.

Q. How does one get to be a guardian of a Passenger?
A. Through a flatsale, raffle, auction, custom slot, pet trade, contest (see availibility post.)

Q. OMG! You gave so-and-so a discount/free Passenger! How come I can't have one?
A. Well, we probably had a reason but that reason's our's and our's alone! Maybe they helped out, maybe it's a special occassion. Sorry guys, we don't have to justify everything we do to you u.u

Q. Co-owning?
A. ..probably not. Unless there are some sort of special circumstances. To be discussed on a case to case basis.

Q. Could a Passenger be a cosplay?
A. Sorry guys, but we're saying no to this. Remember, each passenger had a past life and we're looking for originality there. If, for example, you choose Harry Potter as your Passenger we'd already know all about his past life! It'd make it very difficult to deviate from the plot already set in place by someone else. We are not saying your Passenger can't be a wizard, paperuser, alchemist, pirate, ect that used to live in, say, the Full Metal Alchemist-verse, but they cannot be a canon character! We really want you to make their story, their past, your own.

Q. So... what exactly is the train?
A. Sorry, that's classified.

Q. Okay then, what's with all the other massive plot holes that apparently you won't give us answers to?
A. Erm, well, we like to think of them as purposeful plot holes. After all, it'd be fairly dull if we all understood everything right away! Don't worry, many things will be explained/revealed in due time >D

Q. AHHH! I don't have enough gold but I really really want to enter the flatsale!
A. Don't worry! We want creativity and a desire to play out the passengers lives more than we want gold. Payment plans can be worked out for flatsales when/if necessary <3 Please note, this only applies for flatsales and possible contests, not raffles or auctions.

Q. Do you accept items?
A. That we do! We accept Donation letters and items at Teh Guide value. Along with some event items (if you'd like to use these please tell us which ones before you utilize them! We're not really interested in getting millions of those glasses from the last Ball as payment x.x )

Q. The name of my prospective character is the same as an existing Passenger, what should I do?
A.Sorry everyone, no two passengers can have the same names and names are going to be done on a 'first come first serve' basis so we can avoid extra confusion in roleplay u.u

Q. I have a question but don't want to post it, should I PM Hikari or ChaoticDivinity?
A. No, all questions regarding the shop should be directed towards the shop mule that way Hikari and Chao's PM boxes don't get flooded and all the information is in one place.

Q. What's the Junction itself like in ICly?
A. The Junction is actually a store... or rather... a building with two floors and an attic that will eventually be a store once Chao and Hikari finally finish fixing it up. For now its sort of dusty and there are a bunch of boxes around. A hallway leads off the main shopl and then there's a stairwell which leads downwards to the Junction itself.

Q. What should we do if we go on hiatus?
A. PLEASE, pleasepleaseplease inform Hikari and/or Chao if you're going to be going on Hiatus. It's very discouraging not to see the Passengers being rped with, espically if we believe it's because you've lost interest in the shop, but if we know that you're on hiatus, it's a different story indeed.

Q. What is the Train's name?
A. The Naviat.

Q. What color is the train?
A. Red, there will be pictures coming relatively soon!

Q. What if the world my character comes from doesn't have trains?
A. That's fine, The Naviat can appear anywhere, traintracks or no.
