- A Brief F.A.Q. About 101 in 1001 and this list -
So what is this?
101 clearly defined tasks, to be completed in 1001 days. In this case, I have from February 3, 2006 (My 20th birthday) to October 31, 2008 (Halloween!) to complete all 101 items on this list.
What's a clearly-defined goal?
Each item on the list should be quantifiably provable. For example, travelling internationally could be proven with a picture of me at London-Gatwick, and thus is a clearly-defined task. "Don't blow my stack for a day" is not so provable or that well defined at all.
Why didn't you put _____?
Some goals appeared either inappropriate or else overtly hostile to include in the list. For example, while "Drink an alcholic beverage" or "Lose virginity" are certainly defined and doable, one isn't really an event to be proud of, and the other probably shouldn't be bragged about in a public blog.
Also, I've avoided putting in tasks dealing with certain people whose posiitons may change, such as boyfriends and other online associates, or at least done so without naming names. There's enough stigma with boyfriends in general without something as inane as a self-imposed list being a reason to keep a bad one.
So... Three years, huh?
A lot can happen within three years. Within this span I should not only graduate, but also have close to six months or so to obtain a job and/or complete the more independant tasks. On the flipside, That's also the better part of my college life to do some of the crazier stuff that's expected of me at college, and just makes sense to do now rather than be a good little girl now and regret not having a college life later.
Everyone's got to have a time of their life, and I've selected the tasks in here where some are of personal pride, some are of gaining control and balance, some give me good times to look back on and laugh at, and some give me a chance to cut loose from my personal routine before I get tied down further in a swamp of college work and jobs and, well... normal life.
Do you honestly expect to finish?
Everything here is doable, provable, and possible without breaking any laws or openly defying any authories, including my parents. Whether it all gets DONE is a question to ask for later, for my pocketbook, for my internet connection, all of that. There's no point in giving up early on this list while there's still years to go.
Besides... a lot of the reason for breaking it up into 101 tasks is that some ARE easier to do than others. Being able to complete at least part of the list faster than others emans that I feel at least some sense of accomplishment, even if the list isn't finished.
Er... Why do so many of your tasks involve spending money in such tiny amounts?
I have a hangup about spending money online for anything. Especially for virtual items like Gaia's donation letters or YPP's dubloons. And even beyond that... If I don't contribute to what these people online are trying to do, then I'm not encouraging the pay-to-enhance-play model that a lot of these places are trying to encourage, then people won't come to expect it when/if I try to do the same for myself online. Even tiny amounts matter to these people, because they're essentially direct purchases rather than merchandise markup, and if this is all they need to be happy with me as a customer, then power to 'em.
