My Gaiaversary Quest for One of Every RIG Item

Hello! Welcome to my formal quest thread. This was launched on my first gaiaversary. Hence the title.

I am questing any and all random item generator (RIG) items that I do not have. I want one of every RIG item that was ever released.

Why quest for RIG items?
I always did my best to get one of every noncommon item. By noncommon, I mean those that are not sold in the gold shops. Like donation items. And event items. And promotional items. And random rare event items. And evolving items. And cash shop items.

When the first cash shop RIG was released, that is, the OMG box, I thought I can easily buy one of every exclusive item that came from it. It was a mad scramble for me, and sometimes I was a RIG or two behind, but I maintained that illusion. Until Famestar 2000 was released and the Lanzer doll started selling for over a million gold.

That gave me the epiphany that I will probably never get one of every exclusive RIG item. Not if there are RIG items that easily go for over a million gold. But I guess the good thing about RIG items is that their prices fluctuate. Their prices are actually the most unpredictable of any noncommon I've seen. So I figured I'll just keep track of them, and when there's a RIG item that I don't have whose price goes down to my budget range, I will buy it.

So this quest, which I guess is essentially an amalgamation of tiny, spontaneous quests, will take a long time. Probably a lot longer than any of my past quests.

So... Where's the Quest List?

There used to be long-a** lists here of all the RIG items that I still did not have. Every month the posts with the lists grew... and grew... and grew! At some point, I started becoming paranoid that I will lose the posts or that they will bug out because of the amount of characters in them. Thus, I created a guild and moved my lists there.

Yes, questing is all about earning enough gold and items to buy the item that you most desire. Although I think some people think of questing as making people give them gold and items, including the item they most desire. But that's just my little soapbox.

Thread History

I started this thread with a quest for an angelic scarf, after thinking about it long and hard. If you would like to hear the whole story, scroll down to my Completed Quests post.

Completing my angelic scarf quest, which was followed by a brief side quest to get my penguin slippers back, gave me the confidence to pursue another donation item that I used to think is out of my reach--the AFK.

Sadly, I lost motivation not long after launching my AFK quest, and I chose to forget all about it for over three years. Goodness. Three years. Then I discovered the wonderful world of booty grab, and I was like, "Instead of spending all these gold on RIG items, why not continue my AFK quest?" And so I did.

I completed my AFK quest in record time. Well, once I got my a** in gear. Like with my angelic scarf quest, I threw in an expensive 04 donation item to overcome that last gold hurdle. Well, alright, fine, I got impatient. This time, I sold my golden laurels to raise 3,000,000g. So after I got my AFK, I launched yet another brief side quest to get my golden laurels back.

Still feeling high from finishing my AFK quest, I set my sights on getting a devil tail. I always thought the horns of the demon and the devil tail belonged together. Even though you could probably get two dozen horns of the demon for the price of one devil tail. And my horns of the demon were lonely. So... where was I? Oh yeah. So after getting my AFK, I decided to buckle down and quest for a devil tail. So my horns of the demon won't feel lonely.

So I continued booty grabbing my... uh... booty off. I also sold every single RIG item I had. And following in the grand tradition of my previous quests, when I got close enough... well, a few million gold close... I threw in an expensive 04 donation item to meet the current price for a devil tail. This time, it was my steel-plated ninja band. After I got my devil tail, I promptly equipped it with my horns of the demon. And then I went about getting my steel-plated ninja band back in another brief side quest.

Currently I have no desire to quest for the donation items that I still do not have. Instead, I have turned my attention to RIG items.

Milestones

01/26/10- Bought my steel-plated ninja band back. Whee. The only reason why I still have the exact date is because I bought the steel-plated ninja band off the marketplace, and the seller left a thank you comment in my profile. I bought it from him instead of from another user who listed his ninja band for 10g less. It was the only time I got to tell someone, "Yeah, this other person tried to undercut you by a few gold. I bought from you because you listed your item at a nice, round number." The seller was grateful for that.

01/22/10- Bought my devil tail! Threw my steel-plated ninja band into the offer. The only reason why I still have the exact date is because I actually held on to the seller's PM where we finalized the transaction.

10/19/09- Bought my golden laurels back! It's not the exact same golden laurels, but you know what I mean.

10/16/09- After a long-a** questing hiatus (THREE YEARS!), I finally raised enough gold to buy my AFK. Well, it meant selling my golden laurels to come up with more than half of the funds, but it was worth it. And I know that I'm going to get my golden laurels back right away. Without it, there is a gaping hole in my inventory. And you know, I never really got most of my sold commons back...

02/24/06- I got my penguin slippers back! This I think officially concludes my angelic scarf quest. I threw my penguin slippers in the offer on the spur of the moment, and I never meant to part with my slippers to begin with. Now I got them back! *dances* Anyway, I think I'll hold off on getting my sold commons back and get started on my AFK quest. My AFK fund is dismally low right now, though.

02/17/06- I got my scarf! It exhausted my funds and I lost my penguin slippers in the process. So I guess I'm now at the next stage of my quest. I didn't even know there's a next stage. Anyway, yes, I'm now going to earn my pengehs back and then get my sold commons back (see later post for my explanation on and list of commons).

My Ramblings

I put it in a Q&A format. Because it's more fun that way. If you have nice, funny questions you would like to go on here, feel free to ask them. I suspect I will be bumping this thread for a long time, so anything that will break the monotony will be great!

So now you expect donations, huh?
Donations are welcomed and deeply appreciated.

However, I do not expect donations to make up the bulk of my funds. Most likely, I will end up earning the funds by myself, and that's how it should be. I have never begged people for donations for my past quests, and I'm not going to start now. Of course, with the exception of applying to charities. And there was this one "Post here and explain why I should donate to your quest" thread that I posted in, but that was different. The guy actually wants people to ask him for donations. And I was really scraping hard back then for my seal slippers too. In short, I don't ask for gold or items unless the person I'm asking announces that he or she is soliciting requests for gold or items.

But I digress. This quest thread is primarily to get myself organized. I also want to document my quest for a change. Donations are not expected or demanded.

Can I bump?
Sure! I love bumpers.

Why do you deserve such a quested item?
I'm a regular Gaian. I post, I answer polls, and I lurk a lot. I have favorite guilds and favorite forums. I donate to Gaia every month because I want to help with the site costs. I don't call myself an "oldbie," I don't pride myself on being a "(insert forum name here) regular," and I don't say that I'm well-known in (insert forum here). I love events. I know how to use the report button. I read stickies. I bumble around every now and then.

There are probably more extraordinary people out there who deserve these quested items more than me. But I'm willing to work hard to earn them. I have my past track record, that is, collecting all the 04 items without begging for them, to show how willing I am to work hard.

How come your quest thread doesn't have pretty decorative pictures?
It used to have pretty decorative pictures. And then I became boring. Well, more boring than I used to be. Pictures take time to put together and format. And they have to be moved around. They have to be switched in and out. I had to keep adding new ones for every quest I had. Oh, and Windows 7 will not let me install my old version of PhotoShop. There's GIMP, but I'm too lazy. Oh! And it also takes time for pictures to load. Or maybe I'm just really boring.

What does that gibberish at the top of your quest posts mean?
That's elvish for "cardi." Or is it "cardinal"? Or "garnet"? I bought it from a mini shop owned by a user named Singularity. A very long time ago. Like, shortly after I joined Gaia.

Why do you have the elvish script for "cardi" or "cardinal" or "garnet" at the top of your quest posts?
When I first customized this account's avatar, I was almost immediately drawn to the elven ears. I conceptualized my avatar as an elf, and I always equipped the original elven ears. So I guess my original avatar was an elf. And then I became a grombie. Back then, the only available pair of elven ears did not go with the grombie skin at all. Now there are a lot of ear alternatives that complement the grombie skin really well. But all those years of having the grombie skin and normal ears got me used to being a non-elf. But originally, my avatar was an elf. So the script stays. For sentimental purposes.

Angelic Scarf
Value: 640,000g
Bought: 02/17/06

Why quest for an angelic scarf?
Okay, here's my humble story behind it. I joined Gaia on Jan. 13, 2005, and once I got past the newbieness and found my way around, I told myself there was no way I could earn enough to buy an 03 donation item. They were just too expensive. So I set about collecting the 04 donation items I liked, starting with the kitsune mask (I collected 05 items on a rolling basis). Before long, I worked my way up to the expensive 04 items, such as the Junes and the slippers. And then, before I knew it, I have collected all the 04 items. Along the way, I have also amassed a huge avatar edit collection and several adopted pixels from the minishops forum.

Since I have bought my last 04 donation item (the chain wallet), I have been thinking about how good the angelic scarf looks. And then I started thinking about how good it will look with some of the avatar outfits I put together. So now that my modest aspirations have been fulfilled, I decided to be productive and tackle something that I originally thought was not possible. Yes, that is to quest for an 03 item, specifically, the angelic scarf.

This quest is different from my previous quests. First of all, I never made a quest thread before. I just decided I'll save up for a certain 04 item, save up, and then buy it when I have enough gold. But since this quest is much bigger than the other quests I have attempted, I figured a formal quest thread will help me organize myself. Second, I have started investing. As my gold count grew, it made more sense for me to invest in items that are likely to appreciate in the future while I continue to earn more gold. Third, this quest will be my most expensive and longest to date.

Fuzzy Penguin Slippers
Value: 85,000g
Bought: 02/24/05

Why quest for penguin slippers?
The penguin slippers was one of the earliest donation items I have quested for and acquired. I poll-whored at Magical Poll Land for a long time before I was able to buy it. It's one of the very few items that I have bought with pure gold that I have earned, without including items in the trade or selling any of the items I own.

When I was very close to earning my angelic scarf, I decided to make an offer to a seller that includes my penguin slippers. At the time, I was not wearing my penguin slippers very much and I didn't like how its tops were cut off by jeans and leg warmers. It used to look so cute sticking out of legwear. However, this doesn't mean that I wanted to get rid of them. At the time, they were just the most expendable donation item I have. My other donation items were either worth very little, worth too much, or items that I use a lot.

Losing my penguin slippers left a gap in my inventory. My complete set of 2004 donation items is now no longer complete. It's a small price to pay for getting an angelic scarf. But I do want my penguin slippers back. Hence, I'm questing for them.

Value when I finished the quest: 5,665,000g

Why quest for an AFK?
Since I joined Gaia, I've been admiring the AFK. It's just too cute! Together with the angelic sash, they were my unattainable dreams. As time went by, I decided that the angelic sash isn't that appealing to me anymore and that the angelic scarf looks better. However, I still like the AFK. After earning my angelic scarf, I decided that I might as well quest for the AFK also. There's really nothing else for me to do. I know that I'll be questing for months. That's okay. It also took me months to earn my angelic scarf. Better to let those months pass by and earn an AFK in the end than to let those months pass by and still admire the AFK from afar.

Questing for the angelic scarf was pretty painful, and in the middle of it, I wondered myself if it was all worth it. I think it was. I also learned a lot from questing, which I would like to put to a good use in my AFK quest.

Devil Tail
Value: 26,500,000g
Bought: 01/22/10

Why quest for a devil tail?
After I finished questing for my AFK, I took a breather and then went, "Hey, since I'm on a roll, why not continue and quest for a devil tail?" I always thought the devil tail was an unattainable item. When I was new on Gaia, I saw a user with a devil tail quest thread. He was ranting in another thread that everytime he got close to buying a devil tail, its price would go up by another 100,000g. Nowadays, I think users will be happy if that's all the amount they have to catch up to. And as a newbie back then, the prospect of paying a few hundred thousand gold for one item was beyond me. Fast forward a few months later. I was working on buying 04 donation items that I don't have. The main reason why I hesitated buying horns of the demon was because I knew that it goes really, really, really well with the devil tail. And that if I don't have a devil tail, wearing the horns alone would feel incomplete. So for a very long time I actually was turned off equipping my horns of the demon. Because by itself, it feels incomplete. So... I want a devil tail so my horns of the demon won't feel lonely. And besides, there was something awesome about getting something that I really thought was unattainable back when I was new on Gaia.

Steel-Plated Ninja Band
Value: 4,000,000g
Bought: 01/26/10

Why quest for a steel-plated ninja band?
Because I used to have it and I threw it in my offer for a devil tail and now without it my collection of 04 donation items feel incomplete and it's like there's a hole in my inventory and I can't sleep without doing something about it and so I had to quest it back so I can feel whole again and I don't even like the little bugger but it's still part of my collection so I want it back!

Fond Dream

This place was a repository of the 03s that I only fantasized about getting. It used to hold the AFK and the devil tail, too. Now all that's left is DJs. Seeing someone with DJs still makes me go grabby hands. Hell, when I see someone IRL with what looks like DJs, I go, "That person must be rich!" and forget that you can probably pick up a pair of RL giant headphones for a few bucks at an electronics shop.

I'm not sure if I will actually quest for DJs, though. Maybe someday. Maybe.

Stuff I Used to Think I Need to Get Back

Back when I was questing for an angelic scarf, I frantically wracked my brain for ways to raise funds.

And then I thought, hey! Why not sell off my commons?

This post initially served as a way for me to keep track of the commons that I sold. I planned on getting them back at some point.

But after I got my angelic scarf back, I realized that I don't want some of my sold commons any more. Actually, I think I actually got some of them back as gifts from dear friends. But to save up gold to buy them back again? That prospect just wasn't appealing to me any more. And I think I was already distracted by the AFK.

So now this post is kind of a memorial, a snapshot of my line of thought way back when I was trying to get my first 03 and the commons that were sacrificed in the process.

Quote:
I have decided that I have lots of pure tied up in commons, which might not be a good thing, for two reasons.

First, commons are available anytime and their prices never change. So I can use the pure tied up in commons now to help me get my scarf (and subsequently my AFK) before it inflates much higher, and I will have no problem buying commons later because they're always available at the same price.

Second, I now have a grombie avatar. To make myself more aesthetically pleasing (in my opinion, anyway), I have started wearing certain stuff to match my eyes. Consequently, I don't wear certain clothes anymore.

I have decided to sell my favorite (everything that stays in my inventory are my favorites) clothes that I don't currently wear to support my quest, with the exception of the items that were given to me. I never sell any gifts! ^^ But I intend on buying them back when my quest is finished. This is just to document what they are, in case I forget and to remind myself to get these when my quest is over. And I'm starting to miss them dearly already! gonk

I list them here after I put them in my vend, so they may still be in my vend. Please consider buying my items to help my quest! ^^

    1. G-LOL Orange Gown- 13,000g
    2. G-LOL Orange Slippers- 2,413g
    3. Nightwind Dragon Gown- 7,000g
    4. Those Red 90s Pants- 2,490g
    5. Dress of the Swan- 1,250g
    6. Ballerina's Circlet- 3,300g
    7. Ballet Toe Shoes- 2,200g

Side Quest

This post is a memorial to a side quest that... uh... fell by the wayside. The casino was still pretty new when I started questing for an angelic scarf. Like many other users back then, I was enamored with the high-ticket items that Prize & Joy offered. So I thought maybe I'd passively save up for a black-and-white joker hat.

Now there are so many items that are much better than the casino joker hat, and I certainly consoled myself by getting those. And then Prize & Joy released newer and even more expensive items that made me go grabby hands. So yeah, this side quest just... fell... by the wayside. But this post still makes me so nostalgic.

Now that my attention has shifted to getting one of every RIG item, I guess my quest has turned into a giant set of side quests. I'm not even sure if that makes sense.

Quote:
Saving up for an 03 takes a long, long time >.< As a means of diversion, I gamble.

Wait, isn't this counterintuitive to questing? Well, I have TONS of tokens, and instead of selling them in the marketplace at a loss to me, I might as well play them and get tickets. I hope to amass enough tickets someday to buy a black and white joker hat. It just feels more meaningful that way ^^.

Like lots of people, I've been admiring the joker hat for a while. I became really serious about getting it when I put together the avatar that you see here. It just looks adorable! <3

This is just a little side quest that I'm taking my time on, and I may not update my ticket count very often. It's so nice that this is a common! ^^

Donators

Again, donations are much appreciated.

I pretty much kept my devil tail quest to myself and did not active seek out donations for it. I think I found it easier to hang out in the Aquarium forum and catch gold that fish poop instead of asking other users to give me gold.

    For my angelic scarf quest:
heart The Butterfly Reverie Charity- 4,000g (donated two times ^^)
    heart TNBF Charity v2.0- 500g
heart The Tangled in Starlight Charity- 200g

    For my AFK quest:
heart Wing Your Way... A Charity- 2,000g
    heart Emi- 25,000g
    heart POTO Charity- 1,000g
