            GENERAL RULES:
            Whittlemoth's word is FINAL. »
I try to be fair, but my word is the final word.

Read the ENTIRE front page before asking questions. »
Chances are, the question might be on the front page! If not, feel free to post in the thread. O:

Use common sense! No dramas, no llamas, no green monsters, OK? »
Follow the golden rule -- treat others the way you wish to be treated. c:

            Follow the Gaia TOS. »
            Should be obvious, right?

DO NOT MODIFY/STEAL/EDIT THE ART. »
Modifications for signatures/reference sheets/etc are fine. Do NOT try to pass the art off as your own -- it's not. >:[

            IN-THREAD RULES:
Please speak and roleplay in a literate manner. »
I expect a modicum of English literacy within the thread, and will make no attempts to decipher you sp3k1ng lyk dis a11 d tiem.

Keep the outrageous font styles and hard-to-read fonts to a minimum. »
            This applies mostly for roleplaying, but -- we want to read what you've typed. Seriously. So don't make it size 7 bright yellow font, kk? ;u;

Do not advertise in-thread without permission. »
Keep it to the signatures, please. D:

            MOAT RULES:
Human cosplay moats cannot roleplay. »
Moats have no human contact, thus human clothing and accessories would not be applicable in the moat world. Jewellery and scraps of cloth are acceptable [as we can pass those off as "found on the beach"], but full-out cosplays do not exist in the moat world. D:

No moat can be named after a "human" name, with the exception of cosplays. »
They've never met humans, so why would a moat be named "Jennifer" or "Sir Bob III"? On the other hand, a more "natural" human name is acceptable: Roan, Amber, Hunter, Lily, Falcon, etc. Moats like to name themselves after their natural surroundings, colours, or things that they like.

Far across the seas, in an island chain no human foot has ever walked upon,
there lives a rather strange and comical species. The island they live on is a
moderately sized island, with an abundant supply of fresh water and low-rising forests,
but strangely enough, is shaped almost like an oat husk.

Thus, we shall call the island Oat Island.

User Image

Coincidentally, or perhaps not, the dominant species on the island call themselves
Moats, after a strange shape-shifting flower they call the Oat. This flower grows
in but one place on the island, the Middle Grove, the deepest part of the main forest.
It has many mystical properties, which the Moats spend many hours of their days
deciphering, but to this day even the chiefs do not comprehend the power of the Oat.

User Image

Although the Oat flower is wondrous and allusive thing, the moats themselves are
an abundant and rampant species. They are herbivores, their strangely shaped jaws allowing
for tongues almost as long as their necks, which they use to pick at the most savory of
fruits off moderately sized trees. Their manes are odd and resemble mohawks, while their
tails are a perfect likeness to the sacred Oat. Moats are generally cheerful and carefree
beings, and reside in small herds, each with their particular portion of island. During
territorial and dominance fights, moats -- both male and female -- beat their heavyset legs
on the ground to scare off the other moat. Moats are not monogamous, but usually remain
on friendly terms with their offspring and relatives.

The moats continue to populate the island, cultivating the land's rich resources, but we can
only see how far they will spread in the future, and how far the island's boundaries can stretch...

These are Moats. Males in blue, females in pink.

There appears to be no physical differences in males and females aside from mane length.

Moats give live birth, and the infant usually stays with the parents until about one week of
age. They grow up fairly quickly, leaving the adolescent state after around two weeks.
Very rarely, adult moats, through a phenomenon theMoats cannot explain (though they attribute
it to the power of the Oat flower), adults will occasionally grow horns -- a sign of power and
respect to the Moats -- and many of these elders will become chieftains of the herd.

There are several ways to obtain Moats.

            FLATSALES:
            Infant » 8k || Adult » 5k
Flatsale moats are usually the least complex-coloured and come with no edits. Flatsales range from speed flatsales (uncommon) to flaffles (more common) to whatever else we think up. For individual flatsale information, refer to the rules posted at the flatsale.

            RAFFLES:
From free to 100g per ticket.
Raffle moats are more complex than flatsale moats, and might contain edits or complex colouration. Raffle tickets might not always involve gold -- there may be other ways of obtaining tickets, such as drawing or answering questions. For individual raffle information, refer to the rules posted at the raffle.

            AUCTIONS:
            SB » 5k || MI » 1k || AB » Varies depending on auction.
Items are accepted at 90% average TekTek. There is always an antisnipe of a minimum of 15 minutes, although some auctions may have longer autosnipes. Auction moats are usually complex-coloured or edited, or both. These moats are the rarest of all moats available for sale. For individual auction information, refer to the rules posted at the auction.

            GAMES:
            Infant » 8k || Adult » 5k || Free
Games range from free to flatsale fees. Games are usually fun chances to obtain moats by competing against other thread-goers. Games can range from dice-rolls, random number generators, bingo, scavenger hunts, mini-wars, colouring contests, and more. For individual game information, refer to the rules posted at the game.

Moats can breed once they have been an adult for one month, and can breed every
4 months. Moats can have litters from 1 - 5 infants, although most have around 3.
They are not monogamous, although some moats will "life mate."

            Breeding Information:
          • Moats must be an adult for at least one month before they become fertile.
          • Moats can breed every 30 days from their last breeding.
          • Litters range in size from 1 - 5, with an average of 2.
          • Roleplaying gives a bonus of +1 to the litter range for a final range of 2 - 6.

          • The breeding fee is 8k per parent, sent to the colourist of the babies.
          • Each owner may keep one infant per breeding. Therefore, if there are two owners and four babies, two babies must be given away OR sold in a sanctioned raffle/auction/game/flatsale/etc, with the profits split 50/50 between the owners and the colourist.
          • If you win a breeding slot, you cannot enter for another two months.

            Are moats roleplay required? »
No, but roleplaying has some perks -- like an increased chance of babies. ;D

Can I have a moat for free? »
Occasionally we hold free events to obtain a moat -- free raffles, free flatsales, games -- there are plenty of opportunities to try for a moat!

Can I pleeaseeee have a moat for free, even when there's nothing going on? »
No? ;A; We're busy people, too, and can't just hand out things to everyone just because you want one.
