~ Aoba Park ~

Go straight!! A short distance away from an ominous red coffeehouse exists a quaint little Japanese style park. Why does a Japanese style park exist within the looming walls of a place such as Durem, one may ask? It has stood in its place so long that most have forgotten what reason there may have been, and even the questioning of its existence in the first place.

A mixture of both ume and sakura trees can be found in this unusual place. A variety of other foliage fills the area, lining a stone path scattered with wooden benches. What appears to be decorative pond is actually a lake, which somehow features a white sand beach.

The strange atmosphere is only furthered by the fact that this park is always maintained... yet no one has seen such an activity taking place.

Ah, the midnight hour. Such a time would be dangerous or inconvenient for most park goers, but these two brought more danger than was available in your typical outdoor fun place.

The sophisticated demon was Beramode, and her dark elf pack mule was Fish. Their slate-coloured skin faded them into the background of a balmy night, the main attractor to the eye being their respective shocks of oddly coloured hair. However, the difference in rank was very clear to even the strangest of strangers.

She had been gone for quite some time. Perhaps she had spent too much time in Naples on break and retraining this lackey. Though work was work regardless of any sort of pleasures involved. She had cleared her mind, possibly lost a bit of her memory, and had a little entertainment on the side. Maybe she had even grown an extra set of ears or so in her absence. But still, change did not threaten her, and each step she took upon the stone path with her pumps was as confident as the last.

He, however, disliked the discourteous treatment from this strange general. His shifty work was generally looked over by his superiors, but perhaps he had gone too far this time. And it was a discomforting thought, but maybe they knew all along and were waiting for the perfect punishment to arrive. He was used to his charm working his way around the determination of any female species... but he hadn't expected to be completely outdone by her. He resented her, but was intimidated by so much as a footstep from that strange woman.

She had stopped walking. Oh hell! He scrambled to hold all of the things he was holding in a more respectable manner, wary of any sort of punishment coming his way.

"Fish." She didn't prefix his name as he was accustomed to... pointedly, and disrespectfully. Her demeanour was strangely cheerful. "It's a lovely night, isn't it?" It always sounded a little strange to hear this attitude chirped out in Ilythiiri of all things.

He wasn't that enthusiastic about hiding his ill will. "I suppose so--"

Her eyes were a sharp redness through the dark. "Don't suppose. Know." Pausing for a moment to ensure that he was startled by this, she returned to her aura of sweetness and butterflies. "I've been away so long~ What if everyone has forgotten me?"

If he didn't clearly know better, he might've believed those crocodile tears. "Che."

Her eyes were stabbing him again. "What was that?"

"Nothing, nothing!" It was best to dodge quickly and thorougly, with this one.

That dominating look again. She didn't even have to say it. Know your place. He hated that this foreigner outranked him, but was wise enough not to try his luck.

"Look look, there it is."

The park's pond had an ethereal glow in the sliver of moonlight that shone from the sky. She had already gone ahead and was sitting on a bench shoreside and summoning him over by the time he came to.

"Here." A hand beckoned him by patting on the seat next to her. He came along, frowning all the while...

A sly expression slinked across her face as she looked pointedly at him with her one eye. "You hate me, don't you?"

The frown was interupted by this annoying directness. "A junior respects his seniors."

"Cut the crap." Her eye was back on that wonderful, shining pond. "You must've underestimated me, the show-and-tell general of the dark elf forces. My face isn't bad, I might wear a pretty dress... you thought you had it easy as far as retraining went. And now you're pissed off that you're wrong."

Hmmph. He might've been twitching a little nervously, but his frown and crossed arms stayed in place.

Her smile only deepened. "Suit yourself... you're stuck with me as long as you continue to slink around the rules." She leaned back, taking in the night all she could. She had missed this world, definitely so.

"Tonight is a lovely night for a walk in the park, isn't it?"

"Grarr~"

"Oh, don't be like that. You know you wanted to go out for some more tobacco anyway."

"Urrf..."

"Now then, let's make sure all is safe."

There was an out of place slide and lock noise in the darkness. Normally a handgun didn't echo across the pond. If this were a handgun.

"Now you don't think I'll have to use this thing again, do you? The last time left a big mess. Good thing the fish were hungry or I don't know what we'd have done about the 'perpetrator'."

"...."

Contrasting against the dark of night Hyde's whiter than white skin reflected the moonlight in a luminescent way. The outfit was modified to allow the cool night breeze to maintain the heat within the walls of the hazy city nights. Her 'citation device' was kept in top-shape as well; the military wanted it back, eventually. Along for the walk was Asimov; the bear, not the writer. She found he was good for intimidation factor as well as tackling any ne'er-do-wells.

Up ahead she could see a couple sitting on the park bench. "How romantic~ But how after curfew! Asimov!" With a grunt the duo approached to opposing pair with determination... and a bazooka.

Fish's ears were keen to pick up the sound of a reload... but by the time he turned around to look, Beramode was already standing on top of the back of the bench, standing in kabuki like poses despite her pretty dress and high heels.

"Are you relaxed enough to fight?" Her voice was enough to make it across the park if necessary. And with her kabuki pose she brandished a blade that had been hidden in her parasol.

Fish peeked over the back of the bench with interest. Noticing what was coming his way, he tried to hide behind it more. "Hyde... and a bear?"

There was a pause. First the woman looks like she's about to mark territory (a serious violation in Aoba) and then her date calls out in her name. "...Fish?"

When they were close enough she stopped in her tracks. "Bera-pi~ You're back!" Dropping the heavy weapon (which was quickly caught by a sweating bear) Hyde flew through the air to tackle her best friend off of the bench. "You disappeared for so long~"

Looking over at Fish her eyes narrowed. "I was needing a partner for this job, but you were gone. So I found the next best thing," she said with a nod to the bear. "Asimov wouldn't fit into your other suit, so he just took your cigarettes.

A devilish familiar swooped down suddenly, picking up a pebble, and tossing it at its master in one fluid motion. *ptak* And it clacked harmlessly off of its owner's macabre mask.
"Hey, I told you to st--"
Too late! The imp tossed a small handful of muck in his face.
"ptah! You little--! ... What's this?" He noticed the commotion a middling distance away "Please behave while I make my presence known." He flicked the gob of muck off "It would not serve either of us well to upset the mistress of this establishment."

He cautiously made his way towards Beramode, making sure his footsteps were not concealed.

Battle stance off. "Ehh, Hyde-chi?" Beramode returned her blade to parasol form. "It's been a while, hasn't it." With nimble feet, she landed on the path behind the bench. She posed prettily... Dahlia Hawthorne Beramode was looking suspiciously pretty tonight with all that pink, the parasol, shawl, and the butterflies and all. She smiled and tilted her head charmingly. "What brings you here?"

Fish was still hiding behind the bench. He knew both of these ladies well... and knew not to trust them. "But what's the bear doing here?" He pointed carefully from behind the bench.

A thoughtful look crossed Beramode's face, and she put her pointer finger to her chin. "He's probably going south, to mate with birds." She nodded to herself knowingly. "Bears are crazy, Willie. They'll bite your head if you're wearing steak on it!"

Without turning to so much as look upon the approach, she suddenly made more sense. "And what do we owe your presence, Ryonin?"

"I've taken up the job of patrolling the area. It's just not safe here without a demon general in the region, don'cha know? Of course I'm not on the payroll, or even on their roster... I didn't really like some of their rules and policies, so I decided to go freelance! Ishetum was nice enough to let me stay in your absence."

She pointed the bazooka at Fish. "He's your replacement, cousin. And much more suited to the job than whatever you're doing now."

"Urawr!" said Asimov before taking a drag on his smoke.

"See, he even looks cooler doing it than you."

The approach of the strange stranger with the cute pet was cause to redirect explosive doom. "State your otherworldly business, boney."

"A 'man' can't enjoy a wonderful park at night?"
His familiar lighted onto his shoulder and whispered in his ear.
"No, the bear did not eat the rest of her clothing." he said, without turning his head towards the imp. "to be truthful, my new familiar needs to be... No, that's awful... She needs to learn the lay of the land. Also, Maggie refuses to play with her." he stopped walking, and nodded at Fish " I don't remember this one. Has he given you much trouble? I could always use some mumble mutter I shouldn't say that with sensitive ears around."

It was hard to tell, but he blinked through the darkened eyes of the mask as he turned to Hydelloon. "You know me, snow elf... Or at least you were snowy when perilously close to my book."

"Ah, I see." Beramode almost looked nostalgic, for a moment. She had defended much with Hyde and Rin before. Che, that annoying Rin. The annoyance wasn't around now, however, so she didn't let herself become fussed. "I'd hope the fact that Ishetum still stands after all these years would be enough to intimidate those who would trespass upon these lands. Though maybe the younger ones wouldn't remember the power... of Gaia Robo!" She posed with her empty wrist. "Ike, Gaia Robo!"

Fish had heard the stories of the chaos of this 'Gaia Robo' and was quick to retort. "No Gaia Robo... please no Gaia Robo..."

"Che, suit yourself. Back in the day, a house that transformed into a mecha was the best way to defend the city." Nice guy pose. "But anyway..." She looked Ryonin's companion up and down with a curious eye. "Familiar? Where did you get this? And don't mind my junior. My training is working quite well with him." An innocent twirl of her parasol.

"Not past curfew he can't. Especially not looking evil with a wicked looking, but cute, imp with him. It just isn't good for the image of Durem." Hyde had to focus for a moment after the demon-poseur mentioned snow and Maggie. "... Oh yeah, now I think I remember. Ishetum didn't eat you? And I'm not a snow elf. They died out after their vacation to the Bahamas. That's the problem with being made of snow. Santa had to find new helpers after that, so he had to settle for the ones that bleed and are short over the tireless, non-bleeding kind."

Her ears fluttered at the mention of the giant robotic home battles of yesteryear. "Ahh, I remember those days. You never had to worry about demolition for a housing project because the houses did their own demolishing. Now all we seem to have are the distinctly non-robotic ones. How boring~"

Dapper Tactician

The familiar giggled and swooped at Fish, making light of his reaction. Though she was likely not old enough to know anything about Gaia Robo.

"Books and blood" He turned his head. " I would like to say it's my creation, but my homonculi are not as sophisticated. I much prefer machinery..." He sighed. "But it is nice to have company on longer journeys. I was in France when I made this minor pact." He motioned at the mischievous winged girl who taunted Fish.

He exhaled audibly "No, I wasn't eaten" The right side of his mouth tweaked upwards into a half-smile. "My familiar wants to know why your bear ate the rest of your clothing." The familiar suddenly shifted focus to the bear. with a flit and giggles she snatched the ash from the cigarette, scattering it over Hydelloon's head.

"Wasn't quite as entertaining as the conspiracy, but cavorting around on my house eliminating the invaders was fun." Beramode nodded confidently.

Fish shooed the demon-looking thing ever so slightly. "Always demons... why are there so many demons here anyway?" Whine whine. The rapping of a parasol put him back in his place.

"Hmm, can't say that I've ever been in France." She did tend to settle in one place and simply stay for a very long time. "I prefer Italy, regardless." Italy was like a second (third? fourth? fifth?) home to her, really. "But for now, I'm back. And my business plan is about to come to fruition..." There was a quite pleased look in those slit pupil eyes.
