About
Irasshaimase! Welcome to Kotoba to Words, Xiao Cha's Japanese translation service. I am a recent graduate from the University of Maryland. I am interested in pursuing translation as a career, and so can use a fair bit of practice. Thus I have decided to open this shop. I ran into a bit of trouble (read: schoolwork) when I first started this service last year, and had to close, but now I am more experienced and ready to re-open for business.
Qualifications
• recently received a dual Bachelor's degree in Japanese and Linguistics
• 8 semesters of formal Japanese study, including coursework regarding translation
• test-certified freelance translator for myGengo
• worked as a translator and proofreader for a scanlation group (Domo Scans)
• strong English skills (able to put translations into intelligible English)
• interested in all things silly and Japanese
Limitations
• While I have some minor experience with it, I am not fully comfortable with translation of a technical nature, or involving classic-style Japanese.
• I am out of school now, but I still have various responsibilities and activities, as well as a real job, and cannot always make Gaia my first priority. (This means you may have to wait a bit for something longer/complicated.)

Shop Rules
• o1) Be respectful of everyone, please and thank you.
• o2) Feel free to stick around and chat, even if you don't order.
• o3) Do not steal my work, of course.
• o4) If you don't think my translations are worth paying for, don't commission one.
• o5) If you do like my translations, please tell your friends!
• o6) Due the nature of these commissions, they may take some time to complete. Please don't bug me about the wait, unless it's been a particularly long time.
• o7) Translations are for personal use only, not to be shared en masse or sold.
• o8) I reserve the right to use completed commissions as examples of my work.
What I Will Do
• Manga
• Doujinshi
• Song Lyrics
• Short Prose (descriptions, e-mails, etc)
What I Won't Do
• Videos, unless they are simple or happen to have captions
• Blogs (perhaps)
• Anything involving lots of dumb internet Japanese
• Long written works (without a ridiculous bribe)
Manga/Doujinshi
• First off, I will not do any licensed works. At all.
• Any genre/rating is fine
• Doujinshi with typed text are greatly preferred to handwritten ones
• You MUST be able to provide your own raws. I will not go and find them for you. (In theory these should also be manga you own a physical copy of.)
• Shorter is better. If you want something particularly long I'll have to ask for a higher rate.
Song Lyrics
• Due to the poetic nature of song lyrics, the translation may occasionally be somewhat fragmented, though I do my best to preserve the original feel of the lyrics and keep things flowing.
• For transliterations I will need both the audio and the kanji lyrics. The lyrics I can usually find on my own, but it helps if you already have them.
• For translations, I will need at least the kanji lyrics. If it is a more common song I can usually find them, but it can occasionally be difficult.
Others
• The only real limits are on the length/complexity.
• Ask me about anything not listed, or if you really want something done that's on the "will not do" list.

Prices
• Manga/Doujinshi: This will depend on the work, but let's say the price ranges from around 3k-15k per page. The price will vary greatly with the complexity and the amount of text. Also, if you want the text edited onto the page (simple text over a white box), let me know. This will be a little bit extra. I currently am not offering more complex without a hefty bribe, since it is very time-consuming. Otherwise, you will receive a script of the translation, like this.
• Song Lyrics: 1000g-3000g per line for translations, 500g per line for transliterations
• All Others: Case by Case
• All prices are negotiable (within limits of course). I am also willing to consider equivalent exchanges of services. (I love art!)
Freebies?!
• If you ask for something simple, I'll probably do it for free, just for the practice.

Commissioning Process
o1) You post the order form.
o2) I acknowledge your order, then you PM me the materials.
o3) I take a look at the order and decide whether I can do it. If so, I will PM you a quote.
o4) If you accept the price, send the trade. For something large/complex, I may ask for a deposit first.
o5) When I'm done, I'll send you a sample from the work and accept the trade. If I feel I have not been able to translate everything adequately, I will cancel the trade and quote you a lower price.
o6) You complete the trade and I send you the complete work.
Also, I'll be doing a lot of bumping on my main account, Rhine Elmao, so if you have any pressing questions, feel free to send them there; you'll get a quicker response.
