I'm P_D and I run the Custom Profile Contest here in the Profile Discussion Forum.

To help decide the winner of the contest, I have judges who fill out "ballots" for each contestant. These Ballots ask the Judges to rate each entry according to specific criteria.

In order to keep the CPC thread uncluttered, while still allowing contestants to see how they were rated, I will be posting the Ballots here, in this thread.

Contestants and any other PD-goers can post here freely, except when the title says, "Please don't post! Adding new Ballots!"

You can discuss the Ballots, give suggestions for making them better/easier, or talk about anything else profile related. 3nodding

The profile is very simple, but it does seem to have some personality.

It has a very simple, hand-made look to it, and I think that's what give it its personality.

I think the profile is a good start, but that much more could be done to enhance it, such as carrying the color scheme beyond the header and into the rest of the profile (in IE, the scrollbars are pink also, so this helps add to the scheme a little).

#1--At first glance, does the theme of this profile strike you as "original," or have you seen this theme before?
The profile theme/ concept itself seems to be an original creation.

#2--Have you seen the layout, (the way the sections are arranged), many times before?
The layout method used is a commonly used format. Nothing seems to have been changed ( position wise) other than the #bar links and avatar.

Please look at functionality:

It hurts me to say that this was one of two issues I noted with the profile. The header ( which hold the images for the links) moves according to the size of your browser. Throwing the links off position.

#4--Is the text easy to read?
The text color shows a great use of shades for blue. The hover although matches the theme very well, should be toned down a bit. I think it would look better with a darker shade of pink.

#5--Does the profile contain information about the user?
There is nothing that really seemed out of place in there. The user introduced his / herself and gave ample info about themselves both personal and Gaia wise. I especially like the part beneath that. I'm a sucker for riddles. They were some easy ones though. I doth protest that the user put harder riddles in!

The profile seems a bit void of creative spirits. The header and #bar links are a good show of imagination. That seems to be all there is to this profile though.

All in all, I enjoy the butterfly concept used. I don't see anything that really jumps out and captures me. I don't see the "soul" of the work. For lack of a better term.

Happily, there is a snug matching theme in this profile.

The only thing that really clashes in this profile is the "gaia logo". The user could have used methods to have this changed. It isn't mandatory in my opinion but, as the background was changed for the #gaia_header bar, the logo should have been changed to match.

#10--Are there any coding issues you noticed that if corrected would make the profile better? (If you do not know, answer "N/A." wink
I see a few redundant code. Nothing to persecute the user for though. There seems to be a misunderstanding of one or two codes because I see seven lines of unnecessary code. I think it is a great attempt at working the codes for themselves and have no complaints about that.

I also think that in future exploits. It would be advisable to keep the #bar images separate from the header and position it so that it would "move" along with the profile.

I honestly believe that the profile was brought out of a talented and inspired person. It just needs more work. I am sure that if the user had spent some more time on it, they would truly refine this into work of art.

The theme is consistent. Nothing is just strewn in; it seemed all planned and collaborated. Which is always a plus.

I would have to say I'd add more content.

The profile has a unique sense of belonging to it. It holds to a very "tried and true" format in regards to the layout. The profile itself seems to be bare. Understandable, simplicity is an art but, there is a line between vision and being too simple. I like the touch at the bottom of the about me section that counts visitors. I know it isn't a profile object per say but, little things like those that are "tastefully" done really are what make a profile special in my opinion. The header is a good start, it needs some tweaking both graphically and code wise ( positioning). The butterflies for your #bar are a big plus. They just need some position tweaking as well. My only real complaints about the profile are that the margins seem to be off center which throws everything else off balance, namely your bar links and the header position. The second is that it just feels like an idea that could soar higher if you worked a bit more on it. Those butterflies want to fly, try to spread their wings. =)

Your attempt at doing this profile was great and i take my hat off to you for trying so hard im sure your barely starting in the graphics industry;
im sure this contest will help you improve in your style, just keep trying, as for my answers i believe you were either rushing or didnt complete you layout i could be wrong, next time try to change the

It's too simple, not colorful enough for the theme chosen, butterflies are colorful insects but the profile has just 3 colors, there are only 2 sections, and the layout isn't new.

The profile seems to be an original creation.

I have seen a number of profiles laid out similarly but, not exactly as this one. Kudos for keeping to a simple but unique format. The colors especially used with great potential.

The links are easily accessible, the color used for them throws the profile off a bit. I like that they stand out though, maybe if the user used a different color for the background.

Like the profile itself, the text boasts a beautiful myriad of colors. I enjoy how the orange on the hover accents the red background, whereas the pink looks perfect on the header background.

There is nothing other than some selected #details sections that gives any information about the user.

This particular profile gives me the impression that the user understands the concept of less is more. There is nothing too extravagant that overpowers anything else. The background behind content sections is just the hint of creativity that it needed. The actual image used on the left paints a picture of serene beauty. Much like the profile itself emphasizes on. It feels innocent / untouched and it is wonderfully implemented.

I especially like the use of the imagery and subtle hints of natural beauty. It definitely stands out for being the "lady at the party who looks great but has not gone overboard in beautification". These are the qualities that make a good designer, great; knowing the right harmony.

The profile seems to match just wonderfully. You almost forget you are looking at a Gaia Online profile. The music is so beautifully matched, I mean who doesn't love Silent Hill music? What makes it even better is the lack of auto play. You have captured my heart with both your playlist and profile.

There are two parts that really caught my eye that seemed to disrupt the flow. The #bar links have an oddly colored background which after being exposed to such serene colors, it throws you off a bit. Your eyes are pulled towards it because they don't match. While that may be a very useful technique to bring attention to them, I think they would be better with a more suitable color. The second issue lies just beneath the #gaia_header. There seems to be a section of some kind poking out. It is the same color as the #bar and just doesn't seem to fit. The background should be changed to remove these intrusions in my opinion.

There are no serious issues I encountered. There is the matter of the scrollbar being visible at the very right of the page. That can be fixed by adding this code where necessary.

The profile is beautifully laid out. This user has shown great skill in using both moderation and visual representation.

I love that the music and the image on the left seem to perfectly compliment each other. In my mind I see the woman in the image singing the songs with the butterfly carelessly floating around her, the breeze softly pushing the roses around.

I would actually like to know more about the story behind this profile. So I would have to say that maybe a section that maybe gives a backdrop to the story of the profile, be it fiction or true. I think it would make a lovely addition.

I really love this profile, I feel such a passion inside me while looking at the art and listening to the music. I think the original artist would be proud to see his work so well used. I am disappointed there wasn't maybe a storyline per say. I feel like this profile tells a story not only of words but, of life. Looking at her, she seems to be recanting a tale of times long ago when we were much more content and more in tune with the world. I had a extremely hard time rating this profile because it is so well done. I see room for improvement but I am just not sure what exactly to do to make it better than it already is. I have conflicting thoughts about it mostly that I want more than there is offered, if only to whet my appetite for it.

In this profile, I think what stands out the most is the user's own use of expression. The design initially looks like a few minutes of Photoshop but, it begins to show its true colors after some time, literally of course. The colors are what make this profile stand out. It is what I believe built this profile. There isn't just a set number of colors here it is an entire rainbow. It looks and feels visually radiant. If anything, this has been an absolute beautiful use of warm colors for a spring themed profile.

The profile looks a bit odd at first glance, upon inspection you can see how the colors relate together. They build the profile if I may say so myself. I love the use of the colors, they match in the most unorthodox way. It is really a work of inspiration. The music seems to suit the profile just fine. It stands out, paints a rainbow and keeps its composure beautifully.

Honestly, the size of the cursor is what throws the profile off a bit to me. It feels a bit overwhelming, especially to look at. It matches the profile in color, just fine but, the mouse being huge coupled with the text being too small makes it feel uncomfortable in some sense.

Again, there are no serious coding errors that I can spot offhand just a few redundant code here and there.
The second line has, {border:display:none; } when it should just be { display: none;} or {border: none;} whichever you need.

If you aren't going to specify an image, you don't need to use the url(' ');} property. Also, the url property uses single quotation marks as far as I know. I am not sure if double quotation marks are also used, but on Gaia, double quotation marks in C.S.S give an undesirable result.

I think the profile seems a bit abruptly put together. The use of colors are a wonderful touch, overall the content itself seems to lack.

My only real issue with this profile was the autoplay. I opened quite a number pages at the same time ( which I always do) and it took me a while trying to figure out where the new sound was coming from that was intruding my usual playlist. The song is nice and all and I am thankful for the "mute" button. I think it would be best to just have it not play automatically.

I slowly came to appreciate this particular profile. The colors seemed to be all over the place and the autoplay definitely affected my overall score. I revisited the profile a number of times and slowly realized what exactly the genius behind it was. I am usually not a very visual person, my works all need to be refined to have that "special" touch. Yours had that special touch. It took ingenuity and some deep understanding of both color as well as human perspective to really have pulled it off the way you did. I love that. I hope to see you work on that a bit more. The cursor and the text are a bit off to me, I don't know if they offset each other, or if they are separately offset. Otherwise, I think it is a great profile. "It has the spice it is just missing the sugar".

My first thought on seeing the profile was "Nooo! Pink!", I admit that even though the color pink and I have quite the bad history. The user definitely made this profile work. The use of pink on their profile seems complimentary. I like the use of the image, especially over the video. I thought that was unique. I especially like where the #bar buttons are placed. I think they look rather cute. The designs seem a bit simple and to the point but the layout & format is definitely well done. Your "About Me" section is quite the section in my opinion. I wasn't able to read through all of it but, I have to say that I enjoyed reading what I did. One particular part that I love is way you styled the "Add Friends" spry. That caught me off guard. xD

This is a definitely a great profile; however in my opinion i think is a pain in the a** for people to have to scroll to the side to get to
enjoy the whole profile; you should have in my opinion resize it. As for the coding its good coding but you didnt try to use the colors you could use

I am not sure if you exactly wanted them like that, but I know for .message dd you don't need a comma between them. What you are doing when you place a comma between them is saying that you want to select ALL elements with the dd tag. Which spans the entire body. If you only want to select the .message ones just a space between them will do fine. This goes for all sections. A classic example is
#about h2 and #about, h2
#about h2 only selects the header for the #about section.
Whereas #about, h2 selects the #about section and the header sections for everything on the profile.

Firstly, that is a beautiful background. I would have liked to see more "flora". I still have to admit that it's pretty kick a**. While the background looks awesome, I can't help but feel dissatisfied that this profile just does not reflect the user. I just don't feel it sorry to say. The content seems a bit pushed in there and the autoplay definitely was a downer for me. Don't get me wrong of course, the music matches perfectly and I couldn't help but smile a little when I heard it but, autoplay is always a bad idea to me. There is a lot more you can do with this profile it holds the world of potential. Especially with Photoshop skills like yours I can definitely see you making this better 10-fold. Give me some hovering, a touch of background on the panels and maybe some link recoloring. All tastefully done of course but, I trust that you can definitely pull that off. Great job on the background once again. Try breathing a bit more life into this profile. I just know it'll be a smash hit if you work on it some more.

The profile seems very original, although the recipe idea seems vaguely familiar I still love it, very innovative.

I have no complaints with the way this profile is laid out. The sections are spread apart just enough while keeping a central "theme" to the columns.

The #bar links are positioned nicely and are easily accessible. It falls right into place.

The use of colors don't seem to end with just the background, the text itself is colored to match. Normally I would have to complain that the text is too small but, if it were any bigger I feel it would look off balance.

The profile contains a surplus of information, not only about the user as a person. It holds information about the profile ( which I absolutely love seeing on profiles) and their Gaia-Life. It even has a bonus recipe for any cooks/ kitchen fans to try out. I cannot complain about content what-so-ever.

This profile has a little bit of everything in my opinion, some art, design and personality. It is definitely a work of art and should be recommended for the spotlight at the PD Police. ( I would say the Profile spotlight but, I am not sure if it is still working)

This profile really stands out because of love I feel radiating from this profile. It feels like sweat, blood and broken fingernails have been flowing through it from layout stage to completion. There is no one thing that makes it stand out, it stands out as a whole because it is so well done.

I believe that the entire profile seems to relate perfectly. I am only a bit concerned about the choice of music. I think the profile feels a bit more relaxed than the song feels. As I stated before, every heart beats to a different drum. What is my medicine could very well be your poison and vice-versa.

Wow. . . I am almost speechless. The content, the style, the theme itself. Everything seems magnificent. My one complaint is that with the way your profile looks so concise, I don't like that the line art for the graphic used is shown. Your profile feels crisp and professional, the graphic kind of unbalances that for me. I have to say, well done. It is beautiful, breath-taking if I may say so myself. Your experience making profiles really stands out. I know surely this cannot be your first profile. The music is a bit odd in my opinion, ( not a big "Grease" fan) it feels too up tempo for a sunset type setting to me. Once again, this is a beautiful profile. Keep up the great work!

This profile really says unique to me. I like the idea of the theme, it is original. I haven't seen any profiles made for this theme as of yet. I wish that it were a bit more fluid with the theme. This profile has a feel of solidarity, the images seem very well made and the color scheme matches throughout. In my opinion the profile lacks a bit. The content is limited to three sections ( four if you count the section created by the image) but, overall it doesn't tell any story. I enjoy how you integrated the multimedia in the profile, perfect position and the song seems to match the theme just fine. The work you did on your hovers is a great addition. Especially on the #bar. The Bird and the Bee seem a bit strewn about. I just have to ask, what is that orange bar on the Bird? It isn't relevant to my rating but, I was curious. All in all, I think that some more content could have been implemented and a change in the graphics to recant a story of some kind would make the world of difference on this profile.
