I got to see her live once, but it wasn't a solo show-- she was touring with a whole group of female musicians (the only other one I can remember now is Thalia Zedek), and they all got a couple of solo turns along with performing as part of the ensemble. So it wasn't really ideal, but it was still a fun concert. Shonen Knife was the opening act. xp
So, any chance you could pop over and prompt her to finish her new album? It's been way too long... though the few new songs that have been released are excellent (I really liked "You Can't Judge A Book"wink.
No, I'm not. I first heard her because Windham Hill released two of her albums in the U.S., and I bought everything they put out. xp No Borders Here was the first album I heard, and I was blown away-- the unconventional song structures, the way she used vocal multitracking to create conversations and unusual rhythmic effects in the songs, the lyrics that were more like modernist poetry than conventional song lyrics, it was all a new and exhilarating experience. I love everything she's done, but The Walking is a personally meaningful album for me, and is still my favorite.
