Hm. I think, in order to really understand what draws someone to one or another set of beliefs, you have to know something about the history of the religion. But I do agree, it's more interesting to hear why you believe what you do. And should is such a subjective word... rolleyes
Pft. I've yet to meet anyone of sound mind who enjoys discussing politics. I'm sure such people exist... somewhere... but they've yet to make themelves known to me.

You know, I think someone was telling me about that book not too far back.... Not surprising: most of the people I know love TV Tropes. I've probably got a note somewhere under my desk, telling me I need to read it.
