Personally I would do whatever makes you happy, tattoo wise. I mean you will be staring at it forever. Also make sure it's something that really represents knitting to you. For my the fingers were perfect cuz I like being a punk knitters and a bit hardcore. And the jolly roger one with represent that I work as a privateer at ren faire sometimes.
Just put a little money away each day. Like a dollar or something. What I do is clean out my wallet of small bills and stick it in a jar. then I have money in no time. Also I use a piggy bank and then coinstar it when its full. I can easily have like 20 bucks in there. that goes a long way. I know you can do it. I have the faith!
