sure the arena didn't have a story at first, but it was decided that the avatar itself was no where near enough to keep people interested in the arena itself
go ahead and rely mainly on one sole aspect, watch how far you get. it's better to play it safe because voters tend to be random

your looking at the arena from your own point of view which isn't the way to go. why shouldn't the details, or color matching have the most weight? the avatar is just the body, what you add to it, is what makes
it unique, the details is the thoughts behind and withing the avatar, Republicans and Democrats are just two parties that tries to convince people to join their sides. what makes up congress is the senate ,and house, each completely equal terms of voting, even though the numbers are different. balancing a perfect avatar is best because EACH! gaian voters has their own thought on the perfect avatar, you say the avatar 'should' have the most weight, but not everyone will agrees with you on that one. some feel as though the color matching is perfect, some thinks originality is perfect. just because you feel that arena 'should' be mostly about the avatar, doesn't mean everyone feels that way. over 40% of voters actually criticizes the details, when you read all the comments on some pages, you realize wow! making the wining avatar is difficult, because the idea is to exceed in all levels. a true voter who votes fairly will look at the avatar from all known aspects. so the avatar is just one of many concepts, why should it matter the most just because you feel it should?
you should be careful looks are often more than they seem
so what if the person makes a perfect avatar, but there been hundreds of that same avi, should they avi get a high score for it looks, or a low score not being original? like the army of L's
a balance means we look at the avatar arena from a neutral view benefits everyone. some people suck at making a great avi, but are awesome story tellers, or are very unique in designs, so let's be fair, and keep the weight divided, like it is in congress
I had smiliar thoughts as yours until I enter the arena the first time. I had no details, I just relied on image. Didn't get to far.
its's best to have a balance avatar because voters comes in all forms. Some think the name is the best, some think a item being over-crowded sucks. We can't just have an avatar for one reason. What if you see the wrong thing at a avi? You never know what the creator meant to create......so it's best not to take risk
ya it makes it much easier people critize you 4 things you can not fix liek item likeness and darker hair well the hair style i used unfortunately did not come any darker and in certain scenes her hair is lighter then that pic i used as reference its just REALLY hard to find a pic where its is just her and i tried a full body pic as well
regarding my avi in the arena yes i would have put a long sleeved shirt so it looked more like kayley but gaia does not have a long sleeved shirt with not other design i looked on tektek
you have a reasonable arguement however your somewhat wrong on the details selection. if the detail was as useful than gaia, and most gaians wouldn't pay attention, or comment about the story along with the avatar. you see the arena and a person's avatar from one view, if you were to see the story on a view that flavors the details more than the avatar, than you would understand how the two very much matters. better yet see both on equal levels. it's not called the story arena and it's not called the style arena, it's called the avatar arena, an avatar should be given a personality rather than people believe what they saw. believe half of what you see and none of what you think. humans often mistakes things for what they truly aren't, with details the avatar is an empty shell, it's the same as looking at the outside of a person rather the inside, or both. in other words since 'humans' don't understand what the person feels, there's no real way of passing rightful judgment...it's just like a beauty contest, not much to think about, but what you see
the truth is gaia is getting old and were running out of new original ideas faster than gaia can make new items so at this point, nothing well totally impress us. the story should explain the reason why you built the certain avatar, it should be original, it should show adventure, action, a part of yourself. by when you look at the avi that actually deserves to win. they don't. if you ask me, we should look at every aspect of the avi and not just one.
but ice isn't purple, and i'm guessing the dude who wrote the book just assumed he understand the 'color' of magic was purple. the avi is worthless unless the details represents the avi, the color scheme isn't always the problem. if you look at the pass winners a lot of them had a solid story rather than just a solid avi. if you enter the perfect earth avatar, but claims it's fire, you won't do so well because people won't fully understand the ideal thought of the avatar, and there's dozens of earth type. that's why you need a balance, smart voters look at both details and the avi. do you actually read what voters say on people avatars?
the purple comment isn't the best option, you see almost no purple in ice, or magic. plus it wouldn't go with the avi, that's the only suggestion that isn't very well good

eh the shadow spirit is a little dark for a demon/angel avi, it was meant to look mix, i know it wasn't perfect, but nothing is perfect after you recently been and lose 500k. any thing that goes with black/white, with a side of light blue?
