Tayuya is a pretty weak character. The only thing she has going for her is her flute. Other then that she has nothing really worth adding to the sound 4 but her foul mouth and she is always constantly yelling at jiroubou. Even with her strength to control and summon ethereal spirits she still lacks a lot in taijutsu and ninjutsu and even genjutsu.

Tayuya is not all flawed she does of course have her special summon of the Chakra eating spirits which she can control with her flute. These summons can attack and eat at a opponents physical energy with the whims of a note.
Not much was said about Tayuya in the manga but she did put up a heck of a fight with Skikimaru and when she went into L.V 2 curse seal she had enough strength to dispel the bind of the shadow bind technique.

What she really lacks in is just basic tactics and strategy and she is very lacking in any intelligence so she can be tricked very easily by those who escalade her own intelligence.
