I attempted to sooth the hurt felt by quite a few "tamers", in regards to buying Scorpius, by telling them that Monster Galaxy is a business venture. While they started to accept that without financial upkeep, there'd be no game, I started to think up ways to gain money that wouldn't ostracize players. Although, it might prove to add a small amount of loading time to switching between neighbors, custom "home" backgrounds may prove popular.
A lot of teenage to 20 something males play this game and they may be looking for some home image that is foreboding (girls too), less cutesy. Who wouldn't want to ring in a holiday with a special house (a la past xmas)?

Just tossing some ideas at you. Having gone through zOMG!'s inception and what some would call "failure", I want to make sure that you devs have as much to work with as possible.
