A large man with an equally large mouth who comes across as arrogant and dull. In an omake he is shown to come from a rich family, where he is revealed to have a comically long name (Marechiyo Yoshiayamenosuke Nikkōtarōemon Ōmaeda). He looks very similar to all of his family members except for his sister who, though considered normal-looking and sweet by most characters, Marechiyo considers ugly. Other characters suspect that he received his position as a lieutenant because of his family's influence, as he is usually seen eating or picking his nose. Marechiyo's zanpakutō is Gegetsuburi. When released with the command "smash" , it transforms into an over sized spiked ball and chain. Its special abilities, if any, are unknown, as it is quickly destroyed by Ichigo Kurosaki the only time it is released.
