Yup, those seem to be pretty popular items, especially the Oculus Magica (which was really surprising--I guess it's because so many people want to change their eyes, and it's the only way to do it.)
When the new Monthly Collectibles come out, you could buy an oculus magica (which should have a slightly lower price then) and then wait until it gets higher again and resell it.
It'll take a while, but when more people join Gaia, they'll go up. It'll be really slow though....alas.
The monthly collectibles are hot right now, yes. But that'll change when the sealed letters come out at the start of the new month, and they're currently going down. You can start buying sealed letters (for next month) when they come out at the start of the new month, and they'll rise in price as the month goes on. That's definite.
I also predict that the celestial wraps and orly hats will go up in price.
The easiest thing to do is to check the current market price of something and wait until something is sold for 300-400 gold under it, and buy it quickly and resell quickly, rather than waiting a long time for items to go up in value.
Well, you know event items (lucky star, water meat, mokona hat, other quest items) will go up in price in the future, because there's a limited number of them, although they're really slow right now, for instance.
Other than that, you just have to see what lots of Gaians like from the monthly collectibles; there've been some that people have liked a lot (like the kitties) that have gone up in price a lot, and others like "sword of aegis" that haven't. So you have to assess demand.
But right now, everyone is selling stuff for low prices on the market so they can have enough to get the new monthly collectibles, so almost everything will go up in price just a little after the mid-month monthly collectible rush is over, at which point, I resell everything for higher prices.
