Helena Dolph Jackson was born into a small family with a long, military background. Her father, Scott Dolph, was the Commandant of the Marine Corps who were secretly planning on developing Metal Gear RAY models. In the "Tanker Incident of 2007", Revolver Ocelot infiltrated the marine tanker housing the first RAY model and managed to steal it. In the ensuing struggle, Scott Dolph was killed by Ocelot.Shortly after this, her mother committed suicide from the loss of her husband. Helena, already in a deep depression, would later find out her fiance had died under mysterious circumstances too. Unable to cope with the systematic loss of each of her close relatives, she miscarried her unborn child of three months...essentially losing her entire family.
With no desire to continue her miserable life anymore, she joined the military to honor her father's memory. In the battlefield, she discovered she possessed incredible "luck", which didn't allow for any bullets to come near her. Any operation she was a part of always succeeded and she never suffered any injuries. Because of this mysterious power, she was deemed "Lady Luck" by her comrades. This quickly got the attention of a special group of mercenaries known as Dead Cell, which she quickly joined. Along with Chinaman, Old Boy, Fatman and Vamp, they carried out missions for their mysterious leader-Solidus Snake.
Fortune was one of the Dead Cell members who survived its liquidation through the years, becoming second in command as "Queen". In 2009, Dead Cell assisted Solidus in taking over the the aquatic facility of The Big Shell. Here their new benefactor, Revolver Ocelot, informed her that Scott Dolph's death was the work of none other than famous soldier, Solid Snake.
In an act of blind revenge, she vowed to completely obliterate Snake's life...even if it meant the end of her own.
