I played Syphon Filter when it originally came out for the PS1, Good series =p
The closest thing I play to shooting games isn't on my PSP. Metal Gear Solid is a good game if you like shooting people, even though you're supposed to be sneaky haha. But if you're looking for hardcore shooter games, You should probably look on another system like the 360.
I don't know if you're into survival horror games, but Silent Hill is a pretty neat series to get into if you do like that kind of stuff.
