I'm sorry you have little snow! In the Northeast USA we have been getting snow earlier than usual. Boston, Mass. had 10 inches of snow last week in one day! We've had 3 snow events in northeast NJ the within the last 4 weeks. On the unplowed snow outside my house, there is about 4 inches of snow now with a hard, crusty layer of frozen ice on top. The roads are pretty good though...thank goodness!
I like to check on the Farmer's Almanac for weather/snow/rain etc predictions in the US. Its been more accurately than not predicting weather since 1792 here in the states. http://www.almanac.com/

My friend and I go to Otakon in Baltimore, Maryland...so far 2 times already. There is an anime convention of sorts in NYC this upcoming week. My friend has exams coming up so we're not sure if we can make it or not. GAIAONLINE will be there! If we go I'll take pics & share them with you!!!
If we can't find an anime in the US, we rarely, but do sometimes get it sent from Japan. LOL. My friend is an anime addict of sorts.
I know that in the US, California, Illinois, New York and probably other states have Chinatowns etc. The US has has a large land mass, that its almost the size of all the nations of Western Europe put together. I've only been to about 20 of the US states. Hawaii is divine! LOTS of anime can be found there in its big cities. Many Japanese Americans live there, as well as everyone else. "Ethnically, Hawaii is one of only four states in which non-Hispanic whites do not form a majority, and has the largest percentage of Asian Americans. Hawaii was the second majority-minority state in the United States. wow...I love learning about how you celebrate stuff differently than my family does in the USA. Its like different yet the same celebration...COOL!
In most major city on the east and west coasts of the USA, there is at least one section called Chinatown. I live about 30 minutes plus from NYC. There is a Chinatown there that I go to at least 12 times a year to shop for anime related stuff. Do you have any such sections in Finland?
Next to Chinatown in NYC is Little Italy. There are tons of Italian shops and stuff like that. They decorate the streets and shops in an Italian way to celebrate the holidays. Chinatown & Little Italy in NYC are right next to each other. I can first shop for anime, walk a few blocks and hear Christmas music and dine at a fancy Italian restaurant.
That's right! There are 4 and 1/2 acres of land that my house sits on. Across the street, behind 2 houses, there is an enormous park. There are wild turkeys, black bears, coyotees, endless #s of deer of other critteres living there. There is a river about 1/2 mile behind my house. Many of the wild animals like to cross over my lawn to get a drink of fresh water. Its really odd because I live about 30 to 45 minutes west of New York City. I couldn't find the YouTube of a coyote in a NYC deli, however, here's an article about another one in NYC.
New Jersey has more people living in per square mile than any other USA state. The wild animals often collide with human's in all of our states. Do you have anything like that in Finland?
I love Christmas too! I will probably decorate the Christmas tree after Dec 1st. What is porridge? What is a Christmas sauna? [When I was in Aspen, Colorado I once had drinks outside in a bikini in a heated pool and partied w/other people...is it like that?] How many times a year do you visit the grave in Finland? In the US, we have so many different cultures and customs that some people never visit a grave, and other people go especially on Christmas and Easter and lay flowers or wreathes at the graves.
My favorite part about Christmas is the beautiful music, the fantastic lights and colorful decorations, hot apple cider....and the feasts.

Most families in the USA celebrate Thanksgiving with a HUGE family & friend oriented meal. Stuffed roasted turkey is the most popular main course for the meal. I have wild turkeys in my front yard and can't eat turkey because I really love them. I got brave and made crisp roast duck with spicy seasoning for the main course. My friends think I'm crazy for that one. LOL

my friend who is in college has to write 2 papers during Thanksgiving, interview one political figure in town and write up a report about him and complete a PowerPoint presentation about Police Use of Lethal Force! YIKES

The vintage and retro stuff caught me by surprise also. I'm just kind of experimenting with the new look. Every now and then I run into vintage profiles in Gaia...more frequently in Myspace. Its when the artist combine new thought/ideas with vintage or retro that are the most fun. I first noticed this a year ago and was like blah, blah. Now, perhaps that I'm a vampire, I'm getting into something different. Dang ole vampires@
