What is this New God?
Jenova was previously thought a Cetra, which was obviously wrong. Only after the birth of Sephiroth was it revealed that Jenova was not.
Jenova is a major antagonist in Final Fantasy VII.
What's her relationship to Sephiroth?
Sephiroth was injected with Jenova cells as a fetus. He, like the Remnants, call her 'Mother'. It is debated whether Jenova or Sephiroth had more influence. However, it is thought that Sephiroth ultimately did.
What was up with the lunchbox?
If you've seen Advent Children, you would remember that 'Mother' was trapped in the box. Poor Mother. (I thought of you, Auron, when I typed this. xD )
What was the whole Geostigma thing?
From what I can tell, Geostigma was caused by Jenova's cells.

Just who is Jenova?
Major antagonist in FFVII, the party fought in three different forms. Cloud and Tifa also managed to get Mother's head in the Lifestream.
In Advent Children, Jenova's part is small. Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo are striving for the 'Reunion'. They hope that Mother will come back if all her cells were reunited.
Jenova doesn't really get an appearance in Dirge of Cerberus, other than when Lucrecia is having . . . visions? Delusions? I don't know what to call them. ^_^;;
Just what does Hojo have to do with Jenova?
Hojo was pretty much the person behind the whole Jenova project. I mean, if you think about it, he was pretty much injecting everything in sight with Jenova cells. It's Mother's gift to all the good girls and boys. xDDD
The Lifestream? And the Cetras?
When Jenova fell from the sky, she impacted the earth. The Lifestream was created because of the earth trying to repair itself. When Jenova awakened, she saw the Cetras, and began to try to inject her cells into each one, pretty much killing the whole clan. Eventually, she was stopped by a few surviving Cetras.
