Awesome to see another female DnDer. I got into the game around 8th grade and nine years later still love it. :> I prefer 3-3.5e, I like the better detail and customization of character abilities available in the later editions. I can't say I'm a Lovecraft fan though I personally <3 Neil Gaiman.
