because she wanted to reunite Lelouch and Nunnally which that would mean Lelouch would throw him away and he would have no place to go he would be alone. He didn't want that so he did what was natural to him and killed her. I mostly blame this on Lelouch cause if he wasn't a narrowminded douchebag and just accepted Rolo in the first place Shirley wouldn't have died and he would have helped Lelouch get back Nunnally then worked together on what to do next from there. It would have been nice if Lelouch,Nunnally, and Rolo would have become a true family, but no Lelouch had to be a giant douche to both of them in the end.

He is loyal, he has an awesome geass, he would do anything to for Lelouch and I mean anything kufufufu~ Plus he is very sweet and I love his personality everytime I see him on screen it makes me happy except for episode 19 I can't bare to watch that episode.
