Hey there kiddo, the name's Alex. I'm a writer, poet, guitarist, pianist, composer... just an aspiring artist, I guess you could say. My real vocation is writing, however, or at least I like to think such. I generally challenge everyone's opinion on writing in general... I break rules--that's my style. Don't like it? You're a little too insecure--too conservative on those bounds--to get along too good with me, then. Chances are, I won't like you either. So don't bother talking to me.
I guess you could also say I'm an abstract person. My mind works in complex ways, ways which are highly dissimiliar to that of anyone else's. In fact, if my mind isn't working in a complex fashion, then it's highly probable it's not working at all.
Some people think I'm shocking. I say things no one else really wants to say, I do what no one else wants to do. I have radical ideas on politics, and I have an abnormal religion no one really follows anymore--or even knows about, for that matter. I'm a very spiritual individual, but note that by spiritual I don't mean Christian, as so many people are inclined to assume nowadays. I have ideas on the mainstream flow of today's Christianity that no Christian wants to hear--because most of them know it's true. And just so you know, I don't want to discuss it with a pseudointellectual e-theologian smartass, so don't bother asking me about it.
What do I listen to? Most assume hardcore punk rock based on my personality. Which is true, I do listen to punk--Rancid, The Ramones, The Casualties, yadda yadda--but I also listen to other stuff. My favorite genres of music are baroque, romanticism, impressionism, and Renaissance. (Those are all typically forms of music people today dub as 'classical,' for those of you who are historically-impaired in the music department.) Most guitarists should be familiar with baroque. (You know, 'Bach and Roll.') Baroque composers include Johann Sebastian Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude. Romanticism sports famous people such as Friedrich Chopin and Peter I. Tchaikovsky. Impressionism boasts with less-famous yet still amazing individuals like Debussy (commonly known for his "Claire de Lune"
wink and Ravel, and Renaissance, of course, has the ingenuity of Byrd(e) and John Dowland--and, of course, as anyone would guess, various anonymous masters of music.
I also listen to classic stuff--classic rock and metal, that is. I like the heavier stuff, too: black metal, symphonic metal, some death metal, thrash, et cetera. Funk, blues, jazz... Yeah, I love those, too. I definitely don't listen as much to metal as I used to, unless I actually find something unique and personal to the artists' own styles, not some other reproduced, recycled 5-piece that sounds the same as the other guys, such as in riffage and vocals.
I try to read as perpetually as possible, but sometimes I find it an insurmountable challenge. Why? Well, many find it interesting (for some reason) to know that I have ADD (
attention deficit disorder--but I'm sure you knew that), which makes it hard to focus and read and retain material. Unfortunately for me, I like doing all of the above. Nevertheless, I still try rather hard (
albeit harder than most) to continue to learn and not become an imbecile with time. How can you expect respect, when your mind's in the gutter because you're an educational dotard?

Tasteful Literature (not literature with socially "tasteful characters," mind you)
Adding on to the above, literature with
depth, meaning, driven by experience or emotion, passion (effort), &c.
Music. Principally, only soulful music, music with effort, talent, depth. I like my music in the way I like my poetry and literature, in some ways. With meaning, straight from the soul. It does not have to bear signs branded into it screaming "VIRTUOSITY" in all respects. Originality, soul, passion, culture--It drives music. Consequently, modern music is slowly burning out along a cultural fuse in countries like America.
(Astro)physics. Definitely something I have always been interested in.
Sacred geometry.
The Flower of Life.
Abstract sciences and mathematics.
Linguistics, definitely in etymology.
Classical art and associated histories.
Histories, of course. All types, truly.
Now, don't piss yourself on this one, kiddo. Political science. Well, older political science. Yes, I read
those treatises, the bane of many folks I've known attending for a baccalaureate.
Computer science and computational theory.
Various medical sciences--endocrinology, neurology, psychology, biological psychology, possibly psychiatry, and that's all I can think of right now.
Theology.
Cultural sciences.
Music
performance and
theory
Writing, poetry, prose, philosophy, non-fiction (but not restrictive non-fiction, such as school essays and whatnot, I can't function right on them).
Freedom, yet structure--a method to madness, a peace to anarachy.
Sophistication.
A sense of morals and emotion.
Modesty, humbleness.
&c., &c.
Dislikes
Most "intelligent" people. Most of them aren't really intelligent, anyhow. Good memories? Sure. Grades? Possibly. But intelligence, memory, adaptability, wisdom, all different things, but commonly misconstrued and accepted all as one entity.
Arrogance.
Constrictive authority, driven by their own ideals, which, in turn, are not driven for the better of society.
Emo music, scene music, &c.--any music not made for the sake of music itself.
Japanophiles or however you coin it. Anyone obsessed with Japan because it has a nice "culture," when really it's just because anime strongly hails from there. Japan culture is nearly identical to American culture now, with some arbitrary exceptions such as what they eat, &c.
Now this really gets me, although it's rather hilarious to listen to people wax poetically/dramatically/"intelligently" on anything requiring insight beyond the normal level. Philosophy, workings of society, the spiritual, you know, things such as aforesaid. I absolutely hate it when someone tries to dispute it with you, when later you notice they don't know much about it at all.
Thesaurus thumpers. O yes, I really don't like those guys.
A lot of modern literature, especially books written especially for money. You can really tell which ones are, too. Not every published author is good, mind you.
And, also, a lot of today's poetry. I recently read a modern poem in a newspaper, and it reminded me of something from a medical journal or commercial; I found nothing poetic in it at all, no experience, no emotion, nothing. Just a description of a cigarette. Maybe I have no taste. I like MODERN poetry, you know, just I find a lot of it losing it's strength. I find more power in Longfellow or Swenson than a cigarette's appearance.
People who belittle others based on their educations.
People who belittle others for any other stupid reason.
That's all I can think of for now. This isn't really close to being completed, but my memory is terrible and it'll probably be some time before I come back to add on to this.
