Anything by Robin McKinley but particularly The Hero and the Crown (post-published prequel to) The Blue Sword.
The Chronicles of Faerie by O.R. Melling.
The Riddle Master of Hed trilogy by Patricia A McKillip.
Roverandom by J.R.R. Tolkien (don't be fooled by the target audience, very cute/ interesting story).
Or if you think your tissue box is getting a little too dusty try If I Stay by Gayle Forman and it's sequel Where She Went.
