Byere was practically left on Arazott's doorstep when he was about 3 years old (going by his aging). He'd never known his father, who had been a Lord until his birth, but he'd loved his mother dearly. Even after she abandoned him in the King's castle and all but sold him into slavery he never felt betrayed, and understood that she did it so his life could be spared.
He never actually saw much of King Arazott himself, and was raised mostly by [-insert whoever it was that Ari hired here-]. He was taught how to weild a sword, and perfected the art of illusion. Since his mother had left them with minimal information he wasn't even aware of his healing powers until he accidentally injured his sensei during practice. He touched the wound and it healed right before his eyes. O.O
Untill he was 14 he'd kept to his own business and never really saw Arazott unless he was being ordered to run an errand or something. However after his sensei's death he started coming to the King's study more and more. Whenever he was caught, and he usually was, he'd make up excuses for being there. Eventually he practically became the King's shadow.
At first it was mere curiosity and loneliness that drove him to follow at his master's heels. Arazott never liked this, his orders came in a harsh tone and were almost always accompanied by Byere's bloodshed. He grew accustomed to retreating into the Library to address fresh wounds.
While there he began investigating Arazott's vast collection of Demonic literature. He was once told by the King himself that these shelves contained every book ever written about the history of his people. With almost the entire library at his disposal and centuries worth of spare time, he quietly taught himself to read, write and speak several demonis languages.
Despite the constant beatings (and for reasons even I can't fathom) he gradually started to develop feelings for Arazott. He knew it was against the law, and Arazott would never accept him so why even try? he wasn't anything important anyway...
The thing was... Most of the people he'd ever encountered in life would look at him like some sort of charity case. It seemed, to him, that everyone knew about what happened to his parents, and that he'd been abandoned, and they'd treat him like he was helpless. (don't ask me who, or how, it's the only excuse I can think of for why he loves Ari so much, despite being beaten) Arazott never did that; he never treated Byere differently from how he treated the other servants, or anyone else in general.
This simple fact was what first sparked his interest (no idea how), and for (however many hundred years) he sustained many serious injuries in the effort to be closer to Arazott. He almost died numerous times, and would have if it weren't for his healing powers.
Then a single night changed his life forever. Byere had known for a long time that Arazott was infatuated with an Angel named Joey, another reason he kept his feelings concealed, but he never fathomed the extent of it. Arazott came home one night, completely torn apart. That night Arazott attempted to commit suicide, but Byere saved him, despite being told not to. It was the first time he ever disobeyed his master, but he just couldn't sit there and watch the love of his life die like that... After harboring his love for centuries, he finally confessed his true feelings for Ari.
