Hmmm.
Don't say 'gothic', when suggesting different types of clothing, that might be why she says no.
Tell her that you'd like to wear -all- kinds of clothes, not just the fugly preppy shizz she forces you to wear.
Try... nerdy, preppy, weird, random, emo, normal, girly...
It's not like the clothes at Hot Topic are more expensive.
