Saryli sat down at the dinner table quietly. She had been in the kitchen helping her father prepare the food. For the last month, she had been pulling extra duties around the house because her mother was forced to take it easy.

"I sure hope it's another boy," Danyille said, "the last girl didn't turn out so well". Saryli ignored the insult that was directed at her and began filling her plate with food. "I don't understand what happened with her," Carrick replied, "her brother turned out just fine".

"I'll tell you what happened," Danyille pointed a finger at Kalevir, "he happened. He is a foreigner and not even a Pure one. I told you we should have made her marry that other boy. Now, he was a Pure Pelruppian".

Again, Saryli ignored her grandparents. They often talked of her and her father this way, but as she got older it became harder and harder for her to ignore their blatant insults.

"Carrick, did you hear that Saryli was announced as the most progressive mage of her age in school today?" Kalevir said hopefully.

"Bah, what does that matter," Carrick replied, "she's not a true Pelruppian so why should I care?" After that Saryli kept her eyes down and finished her plate somberly.

When dinner was over, she washed dishes in the kitchen while her father checked on Yessana, her mother. Luckily, her grandparents left soon after they had finished. A few moments after she had completed drying the dishes, her brother, Merriban, came into the house with two little girls running in behind him. Saryli loved her twin nieces, Rienna and Reynah.

By the time her brother and his family left, she was looking forward to her goose feathered mattress. She was not, on the other hand, looking forward to another day just like this one, but there was nothing she could do about that. The only reason she could live through each day with her grandparents was because of Mage School.

She sighed as she got under the covers on her bed and promptly fell asleep.

Saryli was running home to tell her father her exciting news, but when she arrived, all of her male relatives where there.

"What's going on father?" she asked Kalevir.

"Your mother is in labor, Danyille and your cousins have come to help. Why don't you go in there and see if you can lend a hand," he said with an impish grin on his face.

Saryli hurried into her mother's bedroom. Everyone was busy doing something and her mother seemed to be in much pain. She went to her mother's side and held her hand. As she did so, her mother looked up at her and smiled even though sweat was dripping down her face.

Not long after, Saryli's baby sister was born. Her parents had named her Ilyra. It was not until much later that day that Saryli remembered to tell her parents her exciting news. For the past few months, Saryli had been attending classes with the students that were four years ahead of her. There was much she didn't know that they did, but soon her knowledge was equal of theirs and now, the Mage school would let her graduate with them. They didn't even tell Saryli that she was graduating that very day.

When told this, Kalevir and Yessana were very proud of their daughter, but of course, her grandparents felt that they were disgraced because of their 'mixed breed' granddaughter.

"Why do you tell us these horrible things!" Danyille exclaimed, "now everyone in the city will know that our granddaughter is a Vil".

"Why have you always made yourself stand out," Carrick started, "you are just increasing our pain. Danyille is right, now the city will know that our kin is a Vil".

Hearing this, Saryli knew that tomorrow was the day. Luckily, Yessana came into the room just then and forced her parents to stop with their name calling.

Freedom can't be far.

Saryli stared in awe at the grand city. She had never been to a REAL city before, and especially not the capital of Nygree! Infact, she had never been outside of her small village on the outskirts of Tierful Lake. Even though her village was not TOO far from Elleoaelle, she had never been allowed to go there.

Before entering the city through the massive gates, she dismounted from her horse and held the reins tightly in her hands. She moved along the streets slowly, admiring the bustle of the city. Never had she thought a city could be so noisy. A constant hum hung about the city, so much chatter that you couldn't pick out a single word. Along the sides of the streets were shops of every kind. A tailor here, a blacksmith there. A bread stand was held up next to a gold craftsman's shop, which had no practical sense in Saryli's view.

While marveling at all the new things her eyes had never seen, she had slowed down a considerable amount. An angry old man with long, white wispy hair that hung down to his waist, was yelling at her to move along. He was a good 3 heads taller than her, and in some of the ends of his hair were strung tiny bells that jingled as he shook his head at her. In a daze, she simply stood there and blinked at him. The man's face contorted to that of anger, which brought her attention to the pale scar that ran down his face beside his left eye.

The sound of steel against leather brought her back into the real world, the man had unsheathed his sword and was advancing toward her. Then did she realize that the crowd had created a clearing around her and the man. As fright overcame her, her teeth chattered loudly.

What do I do? What do I do! Oh, if only I had just moved out of the way!

She was now up against an armed and dangerous man with no weapon herself, but she was far from defenseless.

Flame Foxheart

PostPosted: Wed Jun 06, 2007 5:06 pm

Flame was just outside the city gates of Stairn, he had just finished another one of his performances and gotten a lot of payment from it. Stairn was where he was from, he liked to visit it often and give free admission to the villagers. He only got paid by them if they thought he was so good he needed payment, thought for anywhere and anyone else it did cost a pretty penny. He was laying on his back looking up at the clouds with his bag beside him, he had one arm behind his head and the other one was being used to pick up a nearby flower. He held the flower up above his face to study it, it was his favorite, a Lotus Flower. He put the stem of the flower behind his ear so people could see it and he could keep it with him, he stood up and stretched a little picking up his bag and swinging it over his shoulder. "Time to take my show back on the road again" he said taking a map out of his pocket, "I think I'll head west first, to Pelruppe" he said, he put the map back in his pocket and began his walk to Pelruppe.

Flame had began his trek, he decided to make a stop convienantly in the same city as Saryli was in since it was on the way. He entered the city casually having been here once before, he noticed a crowd gathered around something and ran to see what it was. He saw the old man and the woman looking as if they were about to fight, he smiled having an idea in his head. "Ladies and gentlemen! The performer Flame has arrived! And as a special treat, I'll give you a performance for free!" he announced heading towards the middle of the circle, he threw his bag into the air high above everyone and kept it there with his sound magic. "It looks like I have a couple volunteers already for my first trick, kind sir, if I may be so humble as to borrow your sword" he said to the old man, using his magic to knock the mans sword out of his hands. Still using his magic he kept the sword around his hand, "This is a little trick I've been working on, so don't hate me if I mess it up" he said, he faced his head up and began to make the sword go down into his throat. When it got near the handguard he snapped his mouth shut making the handguard fall to the ground, he took a bow that would make any normal sword-swallower stab himself with the blade inside. He picked up the handguard walking over to Saryli's horse, making the horse eat it as if it were a carrot or something. "You may be wondering why I did all that, well, to make up for breaking this man's sword I'll give him a new one" he said walking over to the man, pounding on his back and making a handguard come out his mouth. "Now just pull on it, and you'll have your new sword!" he announced.

Randomly-

Dergan nonchalantly wiped his bloody sword on the corpse's expensive, fur-lined cloak. He stared wordlessly at the lifeless body for mere seconds with cold-hearted eyes.

Sheathing his weapon, he turned towards the open window and without noise, stepped out onto the cold, dew covered dirt outside, which refused to stir in his presence. Closing the window, he spun around and walked soundlessly into the dark. Without glancing once at the scene he left, his figure faded into the night. The dark cloak that hung from his neck trailed along behind him, stirred only by the quiet breeze of the cool summer night, until it too became apart of the shadows.

Randomly-

Days later, after just stepping into the enormous gates of the city, Dergan had been one of the few to stay by the fighting scene that had just emerged in the streets. He himself was about to intrude upon the ugly man - it's rude to come upon an unarmed woman so suddenly, and Dergan wouldn't stand for such things - but the foolish performer had beaten him to to the task. Although, the man did finish the situation without any violence, he still would have liked to do it his way. Despite the old man's age, Dergan couldn't be fooled to think he was weak, but after the "performance" he went off into the crowd and went about his business without more than a few muttered curses.

Feeling social, Dergan walked up to the performer with his arms folded in front of his chest and a disapproving look on his face. "That was a pretty stupid move of yours, performer," he said blatantly.

"You're kidding right? I just gave this city a free performance, that's good advertisement.. and besides, my shows cost quite a pretty penny, putting on a free one gives the crowds a good look at some of my amateur tricks, when they realize that then they'll be more than happy to pay full for an actual show" he said.

"That doesn't matter, you foolishly put yourself in front of that man, not thinking, 'this man could be dangerous, he could easily snap my neck in two'. Of course you didn't think about that, did you?" he practically snarled as the words came from his mouth.

Saryli just stood there, watching the two bicker at each other like old men.
Are they really arguing about this?
"I am unharmed, thank you for asking," she said, pouting yet glaring at them for overlooking her well-being.

"Being a performer of great talent puts me under great pressure, soon you get used to it.. but despite my care-free attitude I was thinking about that, but I can't cave-in as long as there's an audience and if I needed to I could have taken that man down" he said.

"I would have asked if not for this man's intrusion, may I ask the name of the just recently saved damsel?" he asked focusing his attention on Saryli.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 29, 2007 1:14 pm

"Damsel?" she scoffed, "you still think I'm a helpless wench, yes?"

"My name is Saryli," she said, glaring at him, "and yours is?"

((She does seem a bit moody, doesn't she? lol))

"My apologies Ms. Saryli.. I am Flame, it is nice to meet you" he said, his bag fell down and he grabbed it before it hit the ground. "May I ask where you are going and why you were almost struck down?" he asked.
