Hello Folks! That's right, it's time for a poetry competition. Enter a poem here for a chance to win prizes!

Here are the rules and guidelines for the competition:

1. Each member gets one post. Once submitted, a post should not be edited or deleted. Additional posts will be deleted. So will non-poetry posts.
2. Members are encouraged to discuss about the contest on separate threads.
3. Song lyrics will not count as submissions. Each poem must be original.
4. Any form of poetry is allowed; free form, limericks, even haikus.
5. Crew members are allowed to submit one poem, just as other members.
6. Submissions will be accepted until June 17th, at which point the thread will be locked.
7. Voting Rules will be posted on a thread at a later date.

I'd like to note that while the rules seem awfully strict, this is only to keep everything organized. Also, voting will be done by every member after the competition deadline has passed, so read through everyone's poem please! Specifics on how voting will work will be posted in a voting thread that'll start after June 17th.

Prizes:
3rd place - roco rochel costume bracelets (the guild item)
2nd place - 500 tickets
1st place - furniture of the victors choosing (3000g max) that I or one of the other crew will buy and send to victor post haste.

Please, have fun!

EDIT: Because either no one likes poetry, or you've all been extremely busy, this competition has not been active. On the hope it's the second thing, I'm extending the competition another 2 weeks.

P.S. If you win 3rd prize and already have the bracelet, a subsitute prize will be available.

Okay, here, I'll start things with a poem of my own. Remember, yours doesn't have to be anything like the style mine is.

The Demon

From the darkest corners of my mind it does wait
Born of hatred and fear
I can see it, my inevitable fate
Forever drawing near

The beast stares at me
With eyes mine own
Its growing restless, this I see
It springs forth from the unknown

Unknown, dark corridors of my being
Where my nightmares hide
From its terror I am forever fleeing
In you I will confide

The darkness, the insanity I lock
Away from the world around
And my hope the terror doth mock
In my heart, the darkness does abound

I cannot fight this thing that is me
But not to fight would be worse
My own mind will not set me free
And this is my curse

A soul ripped and torn
A battle without sides nor end
And so I live a life most forlorn
My fractured mind I cannot mend

As different as light and dark
But as to which, I can not tell
The beast's claws leave their mark
The bastions of my sanity have fell

And gave way to fierce eyed beast
As real as I stand before thee
In battle neither of us gives way, not in the least
And both of us cry “Set Me Free!”

Oh, pretty piece Scrya. smile I'm going to put one of my free verse pieces.

States of Mind

Beloved is the one who touches your heart.
Beloved is the one who sees through your disguises.
Trusted is the keeper of my secrets.
Trusted is the one who stands behind you.
Feared is the one who hunts.
Feared is the one who takes your hopes apart piece by piece.
Rejected is the child of the abusive.
Rejected is the student of the mind.
Neglected is the one who is quiet.
Neglected is the one who is over looked.
Joyful is the one who reveals her dreams.
Joyful is the one who achieves.
Creative is the child who has seen.
Creative is the child who has felt rejection, love, trust, fear, neglect, and joy.
Humanity is the embodiment of love, trust, fear, rejection, neglect, joy, and creativity.
Insanity is the spawn of humanity.

Hope that counts.

Just to avoid confusion, each couplet is just a minor description of it's own situation, but the couplets are arranged so that they're supposed to appear as a story-ish type thing.

"For all of our Differences"

What once we saw is no longer the same;
We can return to no place unchanged.

Time passes, faces grow old,
Travelers watch as the stories unfold.

From a distant land comes an unusual song;
Fearing the difference, someone else says it’s wrong.

She’d never seen someone like that before;
Sheepishly, that person explained the war.

Deceiving stories of how horrible they are
Dissolved in an instant when away wasn’t that far.

They killed each other over color of skin;
They forgot that they both held importance in kin.

Again and again, they were forced apart
after their beliefs, but they were the same at heart.

[What did it matter that they laughed and cried, too?]
Why won’t some see it from another point of view?

It came time to go, and she walked away;
It came time to look back and she looked the other way.

The quiet one sat in the corner of the room;
The rest never saw him gazing out at the gloom.

Slightly blown out of proportion so long before...
Slightest of issues might have started a war.

We all live under one species name.
When push comes to shove, will our hearts beat the same?

For all of our differences, can we accept that change?

Don't know why I'm adding this but might as well =P Here yah go!

The Island

Her tears washed in along the sands
where hundreds - thousands - grasping hands
crawled from the thick and curs-ed lands
To see what they could be.

They creeped into the endless sea
of sorrow sobs and misery,
drowning in the secrecy
they died amoung the waves.

And now the waves are made of hands,
swaying to the sounds of bands,
and they will never understand
the sacrifice they made,

Forgetting all the shedded tears
that wet those sands for all those years
that screamed in pain to all their fears,
and let them be so free.

The Composition

Deep in my soul, I saw a vision of fire falling
On mountains red with autumn leaves
Deep in my soul, I felt the irresistible calling
And my vision led me to the keys.

Deep in my fingers, a celestial urge
To record in detail the flames I had seen
Writing escaped me, but came in a surge
The notes flowing flawlessly onto the keys.

I recorded a fire that burned as none could
I composed a flame with a blood-crimson hood
From the hands of a corpse the leaves flawlessly flew
But if anyone heard it, it wouldn’t be you.

Deep underground rose an unholy fire
Untouched, unseen by Heaven’s light
Burning with hate rose my musical pyre
The music is calling to serve its desire
And I shall not sleep in my coffin tonight.

To Touch

The Brilliant orb, great in the sky
Illuminates the cold world beneath it, giving
Life and joy to all those that reach their hands
Up towards the heavens
Wishing to hold the glorious sphere in their hands.
The shining light dances between their fingers, never
Becoming captive to limitations of those our mortal hands
Those hands that wish to merge with
The divine, with the Sun’s the beauty.
And yet, the Sun continues to dance,
Appearing to be caught between our terrestrial
Digits, false dreams giving to the finite
A glimpse at immortality
Just to touch… just to touch

As the day advances forward, the crimson circle
Is replaced by the lunatic’s icon
Its beauty surpasses even that of the sun.
Glowing with misbegotten power and yet,
This beauty seems so natural one would wonder if the sun
Was the one pulling off the moon’s beauty?
Never the less, sitting in what was once the
Throne of the sun, the Silver orb now sits crowned
Supreme. The Lunar Temptress leaves her perfume of jasmine and magnolia lingering
In the dark chilled air of the night. And even closer than the blazing sun, the elegant moon lives close enough to grace the world with a gentle kiss
Yet she holds her gift back, giving the Moon’s allure its wild power.
So close, but refusing to grace the terrestrial.
Just to touch… just to touch

And yet, with all its charms
With all its beauty
Its immortality
The moon has a successor,
Just as the sun has his to the moon
The moon has a successor
And just as the moon surpasses the sun
In its beauty, so does the moon’s successor
In Her beauty find its definition
Elegance dances across her brow and plays a ballad that stretches across time
Like the mist from the ocean, whose spray touches and cools the sand, Her
Essence fills all with the pleasure of being, and the presence of
Something divine is confirmed. And if she is to smile, by heaven let her smile
The clouds part, the trees sway, the sun, as if to concede to its defeat, recedes, allowing Night to fall; the moon, also aware of its loss, would dare not take the sun’s place, Allowing Her to sit on the throne of the sun and glow in her mysterious beauty.
The sun blazes brightly, but lives so far away from the mortal to whom it gives life
The moon performs a seductive dance close to the globe, but is still so far
And yet, She graces the same Earth that I walk with her graceful steps.
So much closer than the sun, a blessing greater than life
So much closer than the moon; if I did extend my hand towards her
If I reached out just to touch…

Unreachable Unity

We long for a meaning
We long for a place
We long to be recognized
Like an entire race

Striving for change
We have sought to find
But what seperates us
Is our different minds

We never take
The chances sighted
Because we may be free
But we are never united

Hmm...short, but I think it sounds cool ^_^. It kind of reflects how today's society has become stare .

Placing an order in a drive through
I look up and see a familiar face
not wanting to stop and talk I turn away
so they don't recognize me
but when I go to grab my food my eyes rest on their's
I try to tear myself away
but to no avail the person opens their mouth to say something
and I quickly blurt out I'm sorry
the person seems surprised
but then smiles "thank you" comes from their lips
I smile as well and quickly glance behind me
the cars a piling up
I turn my head back towards them and smile
as if to say I have to go
the person smiles back in agreement
I put my hands on the wheel and drive away
I grimace as I go down the road
thinking what i was about to do
she'll never know but she may have saved my life.

she says...
here's mine, ^-^

Decay

Everything I know is an illusion
It's all a mere mirage
A poison to the mind
The decay of the life I knew as mine

This life of lies makes me sick
All I want to do is get away
Slip away unnoticed
And live a life for real

But, this life is impossible to run from
I can only hide behind those lies I hate
There's no way to cry for help
I'll stay here and just slowly decay

This life I know is an illusion
Every time I reach for you, you'll dissolve
This life is such a lie
So I'll just continue to hide

Its the life I liveThe life I fear
The life I wish wasn't real
The life I wish wasn't mine

It's all a mirage
A simple illusion
It's my life of lies
And I'll watch as it slowly dies
