The corridors of Hogwarts were quiet, all the first years having found their way into their respective common rooms, full and sleepy from the welcoming feast. A young woman with long braided black hair and dark green eyes patrolled the halls, her Prefect's badge catching the light of the candle floating in front of her, winking merrily.
She strode confidently, eyes scanning for any wayward students, obviously taking her job very seriously, and took a step around the corner, stepping right into a very large puddle. "So much for being aware of my surroundings," she grumbled from the floor, rubbing her backside and swearing. "Bloody Peeves, probably flooded Myrtle's bathroom again. Damn," she swore, looking at the broken candle in front of her. "Third one I've broken today. Lumos," she said, the tip of her wand lighting up. "Wonderful, now I have to clean all this up. What was that that charm again, the drying one...?" she thought aloud, still sitting down on the watery corridor floor.

Patrolling the corridors, as was his duty as a Prefect, he heard someones voice around the corner up ahead. Rounding the turn, he saw a girl looking at a puddle with a concentrated look on her face, which was illuminated by the wand she held in front of herself.
"All right?" he asked her, he pointed his wand at the puddle and muttered, "Evanesco". The puddle disappeared and he turned his attention back to the dark-haired girl, noticing she was a Slytherin. Oh no, I hope she doesn't start yelling, Slytherins have too much of a temper, he thought to himself. "Need some help?" he asked her, offering out his hand to help her up.

She surveyed him coolly for a moment, and then nodded, taking his offer of help. "Thank you," she said after standing, waving her wand over her robes to dry them. "McDawdly, isn't it? I think Peeves or Myrtle flooded the bathroom again, there looks to be more water ahead." She pointed her wand foreword, the light from the tip of it reflecting on the small pools of water ahead. "I dunno what's going on, but Filtch'll have a fit if he sees it, and then he'll sick that cat on us."

Maissie was creeping along the wall, sticking to the shadows so as not to be seen. Where AM I, she thought to herself. She had been wandering the halls, looking for the nearest bathroom. Why couldn't there be one right outside the common room? Or better yet, inside the common room. She sighed and peered around a corner to be sure the coast was clear before she rounded it.

Another small figure was sneaking down the hallway, her wand held tightly in her hand, a wrinkled piece of paper held in the other one. Where in Merlin's name am I? I thought the common room was this way.

Hearing voices in a hall somewhere behind her, she quickly, and quietly, ran down the nearest hall. Rounding a corner, she bumped into someone else and fell to the ground. Thinking it was a Prefect, she hurriedly stood up and straightened her skirt with a terrified look set on her face.

"Ugh, Peeves. Come on then, let's try to clean this up before the cat gets here," he said grabbing her hand and pulling her down the hall with him.
Walking down the hall, he began vanishing puddles as he went. As they entered a new hall, he heard distant foot steps.
"Oh come on, why would a student be out of bed?" he said irritably. He started toward the foot steps echoing through the halls, holding tighter onto the Slytherin girl's hand so that she couldn't release it.

The Slytherin prefect allowed herself to be drug off by McDawdly, her eyes fixated on their linked hands. "You have no sense of personal boundaries, do you, McDawdly?" she drawled, her long legs easily keeping stride with his.

Elsewhere, the small girl jumped back, steadying herself as the other figure fell down. "Merde de Merlin, you scared me!" she whispered, then stopped, squinting. "You're not a prefect, are you? You're not tall enough," she whispered, shaking her wand. "First thing I'm learning tomorrow is how to make light."

"Make light?" the girl whispered back, "well I know how to do that! My brother taught it to me".
She waved her wand a bit and whispered, "Lumos". Light was emitting from her wand instantly.
"There, that's better isn't it? No, I'm not a Prefect and I'm guessing you aren't either. What exactly do you need light for anyway? It's dangerous to wander the halls, especially with a light to show everyone where you are," she said hastily in a whisper, "oh and, what did you say before? 'murder Merlin'?"

She blushed and shook her head. "Something like that. And I wanted light because I have a map that an upperclassmen drew, show's me where the, erm, bathrooms are. I think they're being arse's, though, because it says one's in the lake, and that can't be true."She held up the wrinkled paper, looking annoyed.

"Well, I know there's a bathroom about here somewhere, but I've gotten all turned around. Now, I'm just trying to get back to my common room," she sighed deeply, "I'm never going to get back. This castle is impossible!"
Just then, she heard footsteps coming towards them. "Oh no, I don't know how to turn off the light to my wand! We're going to get caught. My brother told me that Filtch is a horrible old man. I really don't want to be caught by him". Telling the other girl to run for it, she quickly hid in a niche in the wall and stuffed her wand in the pocket of her robes.

"I heard voices coming from this hall, they couldn't have gotten far," he said letting go of the Slytherin's hand. Glancing along the walls, his eyes caught a flicker of a light. He walked slowly towards it and pointed his own lit wand in the direction of the mysterious light. Seeing what was hidden there, he sighed.
"What are you doing way out here? And I thought I told you how to turn off the light. It's 'Nox', remember?" he said to the girl.
He grabbed the hand of the young girl and turned to address the other Prefect, "she's my little sister, just a first year. I'll take her back to our common room, but probably to the bathrooms first. That's likely where she was headed," he sighed again as he started down the hall, his sister's hand in his, "so sorry, Phaedra".

Phaedra stared after him, her face slightly puzzled, then whirled around, her lit wand lighting up the empty corridor. I thought there was another voice, she thought, studying the corridor carefully, her face flushed. Glancing at her watch, she scowled, then turned around the other direction, going back towards the dungeons.
